Is A&W the GOAT in Canada? How do they manage to do it?

They're root beer is good but don't buy into their over glorified cane sugar bs. Its still made from shit sugar syrup. I used to work at one (had everything on the menu) and would recommend: teen burger, spicy chicken and the papa(papi) burger and the godly onion rings (made in store). Avoid: uncle burger, any value items. Also they got some pretty good breakfast, it's the only fast food chain I know where you can order an omelette with pancakes. In terms of operation, they're owned and run by a franchisee which I personally did not enjoy as mine was a shitty manager. The franchisee is free to run the restaraunt how they desire, but must abide by A&W standards. The company essentially 'rents' the aw products and brand name to owners, who then profit. Oh and working there was greasy af and too busy considering it was at a mall

I had it when I was in Canada 11 years ago. Had a teen burger, fries and a root beer.

Used to be GOAT but the prices have skyrocketed like everywhere else and quality hasn't kept up.

It was definitely the best in the mid 00s when you could still get 2 for $5 mozza burger coupons, now I think it's 2 for $7. If I'm going to spend $7 it's off to Wendy's for a triple stack instead.

Very nostalgic place for me. My dad loved it, so he used to take the whole family there every now and again for lunch. Those Grandpa burgers were great.

A&W in the US is run by a different company than in Canada

The fries are good but it sucks that they moved from the standard small-regular-large model to one size fits all a few years ago when they replaced the fries they had previously. Just gimme more fries damn it.

In Canada A&W has the best average quality of all fast food. Some locations are better than others, but overall A&W is good. The consistently greatest A&W I have been to overall is in Davidson, SK.

Absolute best fast food is Wendy's but there seems to be way more bad Wendy's locations than there is good A&W. Bad Wendy's is definitely worse than good A&W.

Dairy Queen would be my next top choice for burgers. Flamethrower or double cheeseburger is solid at every DQ I have been to.

McDonald's is pretty much McDonald's everywhere I have been. I've never noticed a meaningful difference in quality. The problem with McDonald's is that even "good"/fresh McDonald's is not very good.

Burger King can't seem to get their shit together anywhere. Burgers are pretty much always dry/cold and/or they have a shit ratio of toppings/condiments.

KFC is good if you can find a place that cooks fresh, but most of them have a bunch of chicken sitting half-cold under heat lamps, which is pretty good.

Harvey's is fucking whatever, never had anything there which would bring me back.

Five Guys and Fatburger are too much like an actual restaurant for me to ever go there instead of an actual restaurant, since they are fast-food quality.

I haven't eaten at Taco Time for almost a decade.

Tim Hortons has been shit quality since roughly 2006. What the fuck is wrong with them? Bad coffee, bad donuts, bad soup, bad sandwiches.

I worked as a cook at A&W in Saskatchewan for like 16 months, AMA. The onion ring making process was pretty disgusting and unsanitary.

Also yhe computer in the office was some old beige POS running windows 95, the owner(old grumpy man rich man in his 70s) would randomly show up on yhe weekends all the time and go on the computer in the office. We would check his history after he left and it was always hours and hours of reading porn like porn stories and sex stories...

That said, buddy burgers are actually pretty fucking good, for the price. Only a little smaller than a standard burger for like $1.30. Single with cheese, the double isn't worth it. Those grilled onions are the shit.

Chicken buddy burgers are actually good too. I like the dill pickles, one of their few sandwiches that doesn't have for their trademark sweet+salty dynamic.
