I'm very passionate about cooking and have become quite skilled over the years. I want to go to culinary school and become a chef.

My parents look down on that idea and want me to study STEM instead. They offered to pay for college, but only if it's STEM related.

Problem is, I'm fucking stupid. I don't think I'm cut out for STEM. But I can cook, and I love it. Should I go against my parents' wishes and pursue my culinary dreams?

also this is a bread thread, post breads

s-self bump ;_;

Loads of fools are in STEM. Does not require exceptional intelligence, just a small amount of focus. There's no depth to cooking so you can enjoy mastery of it in your free time while also not hating it.

Making single meals at your house that you get to spend as much time as you want on is different from being a professional chef.

I have a memory disorder that makes it very difficult to learn and retain new information. Cooking is one of the few things I can excel in because it's hands-on and doesn't require much thinking for me.

Oh yeah, I get that. That doesn't stop me from wanting to pursue it, though.

What, yeah dude. Always go against your parents. I'm successful as fuck right now as a filmmaker because I didn't listen to a single thing those idiots said to me. It took me four years at least of risk, almost dying, and depression, but fuck you and fuck them, I'm here.

Nobody fucking cares what you do, you lame ass piece of shit.

I care user. Follow your passion, if you’re serious and it isn’t some kick you are on. Doing what you enjoy is important, you’ll be doing it full time

How successful are your films? Are they independent or is there a lot of money backing them? Not asking you to dox yourself, just found your post interesting.

You cared enough to spend your valuable time writing that, so thanks, user

Why can't Veeky Forums get good bait anymore?

>I have a made up disorder that makes it very difficult to learn and retain new information.
Then you'll never hack it in a commercial kitchen. Just because you can make tasty food at home doesn't mean you can handle the dinner rush at a high volume kitchen.

Cooking is an awful fucking career, don't fall for it

Just get rich and cook in your spare time dumbass. You can always open a restaurant with the money you make in STEM, but you can never become successful if you dedicate yourself to the food route now.

My brother used to be like you. Now he wants out and is getting a degree in additive manufacturing.

>I have a memory disorder that makes it very difficult to learn and retain new information.

Sorry guy but it doesn't sound like cooking would be a good career for you. Probably for the best. Working in a kitchen will crush your soul and destroy any enjoyment you ever had from cooking.

Liking to cook and being "good" at cooking at home has fuck all to do with success in the FS industry and C school is for chumps anyway.

Perhaps you should get a job in a kitchen first to see how you like it. It's a difficult career. That said, if you really love it then you should do it. Money is not the key to happiness.

Worth noting that you don't necessarily have to work in a restaurant.

Don't listen to anons that say STEM is easy. If you weren't born with the I.Q required for STEM you most likely won't pass. STEM, specifically engineering has a huge drop out rate becuase people don't have the intelligence for it, there's nothing you can do about it, I'd say pursue what you're really good at. I knew my I.Q wasn't high enough for Computer science, now I'm doing accounting and I love it.

>Cooking food, only to have another man eat it

When did you first realize you were a cuck?

I make cuckold porn films, it's very lucrative

Work as a cook in a reputable restaurant first before spending money on culinary school. As much as you may love it at home, its a different story actually working in a restaurant getting slammed during service and bitched at by a chef. i started out dishwashing then working my way up to a line cook with out school, so it can be done, but try it out first before you throw away 60 grand.

Virtually every good and service in the world is catered to other people.

but only food and sex can leave you fully satisfied

Culinary school won’t help you if you have no work experience. Get a job in a restaurant first.

>Getting paid to preform a basic function everyone should possess.

What’s it feel like to be cucked enough to pay another man a living for something you could do for cheap?

Just meet them halfway and major in crop science, forestry or biology, still STEM majors but don't require the same mental capacity as the big boy STEM majors like math, physics or engineering

>he's never sought guidance from our lord and savior Jesus Christ
I pity you user
