What is your favorite Hesse novel?

Why?

Steppenwolf. Because i haven't read The Glass Bead Game yet.

Could really empathize with Narziss and Goldmund when I read it, it has a very personal resonance. Currently going through Glass Bead Game and it is fantastic.

Demian because I'm an huge faggot

Narcissus and Goldmund because it's the only one I've read.

Narcissus und Goldmund. The part where he was nailing both sisters and they knew it and were okay with it.

They're all the same book
>muh duality
>muh youth
>muh education

Gertrude because it's the only one I've read and it hit too close to home

Glass Bead Game because its the only one I've read. Pretty good felt "initiatory"

Quick question:
Did you guys also read the glass bead game as a metaphor for literature itself?

Siddharta, because it's the only one I've read.

Same here, though I've also read Siddharta (which I would recommend).

Did you like Gertrude? It hit a little too close to home for me too, to the point where I actually chose to put it down for a while because it was too much. This, in turn, made me feel like a coward for not reading it - so I guess there's no winning. Still, I loved it. I suppose what's best about it is the way it tackles with the human condition, but I also loved some of the descriptions of the music.

>reads only one book by the author and expects he is entitled to talk about the author on any level

Rosshalde because it's the most down to earth.

I've only read The Prodigy or Beneath the Wheel as it's also known. I enjoyed it, what should I read next?

Steppenwolf because I managed to go past 1/4.
I've never read someone so far up his own ass, convinced of his limitless profundity.

>muh sainthood...

donĀ“t mind hesse occasionally, but he gets repetitive in both his themes and language very frequently

I only read Siddhartha but I loved it
>inb4 it was easy to read therefore it's somehow not as good artistically

>tfw I found out I'm gay after reading Demian

This

Glass Bead Game because it is objectively his best work
>prove me wrong faggots

i can't. you're right.

but everyone on this board is an 18 yo undergrad who's "finding himself" or /r9k/ crossboarding, so siddhartha and steppenmeme get shilled

Hesse is for teenagers. If you encounter an adult who rates Hesse as a writer, you're dealing with an absolute pleb.

Knulp. Surprised no one has mentioned it. It's like Hesse's Easy Rider. Gorgeous.

this is what plebs actually believe

You'll understand when you grow up.

apparently you didn't

Thanks for the insightful dialogue, kid.

No young adult let alone teen knows Hesse or even reads books.

>tfw no Demian-like friend to guide me through the individuation process and help me attain total personality

Ye the goethian "two soules live in my bosom" can be found in every one of his 3 main novels - still good books tho
I'd Rank
>Steppenwolf
>Narziss und Goldmund
>Siddartha
Although they are all really close

>3 main novels
>doesnt list glass bead game

literally kill yourself you fucking pseud

glass bead game because it's so comfy

Thanks for the rec I'll check this out

Was it Demian that brought to light your homosexual tendencies?

Hmm
I kept focusing on Demians mom.
Now I'm a milf porn addict.
