>Life's work
>Been writing for less than a year
>Not even 30 years old yet
Like I said, these guys are Baby Boomers. I sincerely hope they have long and enjoyable lives, but the fact of the matter is that I'm likely to be alive for decades after they've gone, and I will still be writing. Now if I'd been writing for 50 years and still only got 4 people who enjoy my books, you'd be on to something.
Ultimately though, a will to power? Honestly, all I'm seeking is $15,000 a year in royalties. Considering there are self-published authors making that much a MONTH, it is nowhere near an impossible feat. I'm also steadily learning more and more about the self-publishing business as well as researching more ways of making income from my writings, approaching the matter in a very entrepreneurial way. The possibility of becoming a millionaire over time is there, it is not impossible, I've already been compared to Elmore Leonard who, over the course of decades, wrote books that spawned about 16 movies and a handful of television series which is quite incredible. He obviously was a writer who managed to become a millionaire from his craft.
In the end however, I live a simple life, and even just $15,000 CAD a year ($12,000 USD a year) is enough for me to live in relative comfort and that's less than a full-time minimum-wage job. So yeah, I don't seek power, or even great wealth, but I do want to become a full-time writer who makes a living from my written work. Eventually I'd like to reach roughly $20,000 a year so that I could have my own house instead of renting a room in a house, perhaps wait until $25,000 a year so that I'll know I can afford it even if I get a little slump in sales, won't have to be a fancy house either. 1 story is fine provided I've got a good amount of land for growing crops because I quite enjoy making my own potatoes, cabbage, carrots, and so on and so forth. It would also help save on grocery bills to an extent.
From there, try to save money, and do some travelling. See more of the world, experience more, to give me more fuel to write with. No 5-star hotels, or Michelin Star restaurants. No 1st Class flights, or buying $200 bottles of liquor just to drink it in a single night. It is not power that I seek, but merely a simple and relatively comfortable life for myself, the freedom to write, and the ability to experience more of the world to be able to write about more. If over the decades I reach millionaire status, that's nice, but I'd have no use for such money and huge amounts of it would just go to charity. I'd give ridiculously high tips, wouldn't think twice about buying a round at a local pub, and would eat at a restaurant whenever I'd like though would also cook my own meals at home on many occasions. That's luxury in my mind.
