How do you make oats to come out fluffy not a gruel

Oats are literally gruel.

But op pic is fluffy like rice

And golden raisins or dates.

>How do you make oats to come out fluffy not a gruel
That is a good question. The OP oats look like steel cut, but maybe not as fine as the brand I buy, and maybe you cook them with less liquid. Or they might be made with the soak overnight technique, and then drained?

I like them soupy -- it should run off the spoon. Steel cut oats, milk, brown sugar, pinch of salt, and a puddle of melted butter on top.

Rolled, left in the fridge to soak in milk for 12 hrs and served with stewed fruit and Greek yoghurt.
