Some actually do?

Yeah I think that was the point of OPs question.

I never said "who does NOBODY eat horse." Obviously countries like denmark do. So whats your point?

umm denmark doesn't really

switzerland does quite a lot

We do?
I used to eat a lot of it back in the 80s but I never see it for sale anymore. I probably could find it if I went looking but it's not in supermarkets the way it used to be.
It's not bad meat either. Very comparable to cheap beef, but leaner. So lean that it's pretty easy to fuck up some cuts, so if someone tells you horse is tough or dry they probably just overcooked it.

Good for you for not saying "who does NOBODY eat horse."

It makes absolutely zero sense.

Japan eats horses.

Color me unsurprised

Is it efficient to raise horses for meat compared to other animals? Or do you just eat the old ones that are no longer useful? I would eat horse, but I know a lot of people would be horrified by it in the US. They are like pets for little girls or cowboy companions here.

*why
There, you happy?

In general? No.

No I am not.

this is an anthropological question. the answer is similar to why Indians consider the cow as sacred: Indian cows are their defacto plow animals and were only used as such for millennia. similarly in the west we do not eat horses or mules because we value them as tools and companions.

Not really. Compared to cows you don't get as much meat for the roughly the same amount resources (feed, water, range). Plus most of it is fast twitch muscle so it'll be tough and stringy. Cows have a better mix of fast and slow twitch muscle.
You could probably breed a more food-friendly horse, but why would you when it still wouldn't be any cheaper than a cow?

because horses are our friends

They'll kill you as soon as look at you.

Actually, they act more like dogs than I would have expected.
We have some manner of nature reserve with wild horses nearby so I get to see them a lot.
They'll lay on their backs and rub back and forth in exactly the same manner as dogs and also, standing up now, lift one back leg and scratch behind their ear with it. Very doglike movements, made all the more hilarious because it's a beast the size of a car.

>similar to doga

exactly they're both sacred animals with privilege above common farm animals. If a horse attacked you its because you were attacking a maggot

Yeah, historically they were far to valuable to eat. They were the only source of transportation until the railroad. They were an absolute necessity in managing cattle and plowing. They were only eaten during extreme famine, even by the plains indians who routinely ate dog. That attitude carried into the modern day with the romaniticized western novels, tv shows and movies. So no, americlaps aren't going to suddenly decide we should be eating an animal that partnered with us in creating this debauched, greed ridden, barren, corporate fascist cultural wasteland.

Canada does; it just isn't very popular. I've only been able to find it in Quebec. Breddy damn good

Did child die?

Looks like that dog has autism. Take it to the vet.

I always imagined the meat as being tough as hell

Its a lot of extra work just for an exceptional perfect medium rare steak. You likely wont use it for long, mine is collecting dust. Sorry, not sorry.

>Be 1899
>Accidentally mix in horse meat and rope into US beef
>Europoors chimp out when they find extra protein in their meat
>Exeunt horse meat

You sound like a buzzkill.

It is, horses haven't been bred over generations to have tender areas like cattle or pigs. They're pure working animals with lots of dense, fast twitch muscle.

>2018
>not eating canned camel

The people arguing for eating horse are the same kind of people who are going to be arguing for eating alien life if we can't fuck it.

@3.20 youtube.com/watch?v=iZ8uLBx0xWg

horses have too much drugs in them because they aren't raised for human consumption

Ur mum has too many drugs in her and i still ate that nomsayin

They really are.
please die in a fire

My friend went to Mongolia a little while ago for a work trip and had horse. They gave him the heart because he was a guest and that's supposed to be the best part. Said it took everything he had not to puke.
Also fermented horse milk is a pretty popular alcoholic beverage there. Apparently it tastes with sour milk with a vodka twinge.

>debauched, greed ridden, barren, corporate fascist cultural wasteland.
Don't be such a leftie fag, you're going to wake /pol/.

Plenty do, It's eaten in the U.S. all the time.
The only time it's in the news is because a store was selling horse meat and claiming it's beef.

>It's eaten in the U.S. all the time
No it isn't

Yes it is.

Cursed image

Also fuck horses. shifty cunts the lot of them.

Idk man, but this got me thinking about why more countries don't ride cows and shit.

We've all eaten horse meat. It would be surprising to find someone who hasn't eaten horse meat past the age of 18.

This probability increases with the more you eat out and the amount of processed foods you eat. Tainted meat is rare but it does happen every now and then. Not even vegans are safe because often trace meat materials including horse is used to grow or process or accidentally come into contact with their vegetables.

The only way to completely have avoided horse meat is to have lived and eaten all your life on a farm where you have complete control over your food.

In short so what, big fucking deal.

Bovine weren't really a staple food animal for most people until the 1800s and industrialization.
Before tractors, cattle were more valuable as beasts of burden or a source of milk. Only the very rich ate beef with any regularity, and most cattle weren't slaughtered until they were very old.
Now that labor has been mechanized, cattle are just food (at least in post-industrial societies) because they produce a lot of meat, whereas horses are bred for recreation because they're faster and more agile than cows.

I had a horse burger in France once

Pretty good

Here in Germany there were some in lasagne. The normies reeeee'd to say the least.

Not only we eat it here in Italy, but it's also pretty good.
I order it at a certain restaurant along with french fries and polenta, the meat is saucy and tasty at the right point.
10/10

They are girl pets here too, but when the girls stop caring about horses they go to the butcher. Any horse at the riding schop that is too old or unused also goes to the butcher. There is quite a surplus of horses so it is pretty cheap meat, very tasty also. There are specialised horse butchers too but that is becoming rarer because all the smaller scale butchers are disappearing and being replaced with larger facilities.

For the countries, I think all of Europe eats horse.

Religious reasons.

Ehm without trolling, why wouldn't we eat alien life if it ain't intelligent. We eat pigs, cows, chickens, horses, turkeys, kangaroos, crocodiles etc, why wouldnt we eat the space version of them?

The problem wasn't the meat you doofus, the problem was that the meat was possibly contaminated with medication those horses had received. Normally that stuff is checked but if people start to fuck around like in that horse meat scandal it might as well be a sick animal full of crazy drugs

we eat it here in australia but we dont call it horse, we process it with other meats and call it polony or devon in other flyover states, bretty gud with tomato sauce on its own

Southern Netherlands does. We're the only one with a proper quisine though

This is what I'm talking about. There's a lot more to it than that article says but just look up a recipe. It's delicious. And use horse not beef

horses are just big dogs. eat your fucking car.

You shouldn't be surprised. Horses and dogs both evolved in a long synergistic relationship with humans and understand humans better than most humans do.

love the flavor of beef.

especially when it's processed, so all the flavor is condensed.

what if horse is even beefier and than beef? feel like i'm missing out.
