That is a weird mutation. You'd expect the z to be more like to show up before the i, because palatalization. Given it's a case of a pre-classic /dz/, you'd think they'd all evolve the same. If you ask me the nom/voc forms were probably loaned from another dialect or had a similar thing happen to them; a similar thing happened with Iuppiter, and it's not so weird a process that classical dictionary entries always cite the genitive because the nominative is not that trustable. Funny that Zeus is also the one Greek god that has an obvious Indo-European name.

Although there it makes a little more sense, as Iuppiter is simply Iovis + pater. I guess the ancients thought you needed a little something extra when saying that the big guy was doing something, or when invoking him.

It also bears mention that Ζεὺς πατήρ is a formulaic phrase in Greek as well, though not grammatically codified as in Latin. In fact the full Indo-European name for that deity is something like Dhyeús-Ph2tér, if I recall
