They went to the same uni and he saw Hegel rising up the academic ladder, becoming recognized as the new philosopher king and getting a lot of tail.

Meanwhile, Schopenhauer stayed an unrecognized sexually frustrated loner battling melancholy and depression. He'd go alone to the theater on the weekends to see Wagner's plays or stay in his room and read Indian Epics.

Muh Idealism and Progress

>the virgin thinker
>THE CHAD PHILOSOPHER
This sums it all up; Schopenhauer was the former.

1, He was butthurt about pretty much everyone and everything.
2, Like said, they were both in Berlin. Schopenhauer scheduled his lectures at the exact same time Hegel made his lectures - but everyone went to see Hegel while noone was interested in Schopenhauer.

Schoppy had loads of pussy as a young man.

He was the "NORMIES GET OUT REEEEEE" meme of the 19th century.

Poor lil Schopey got Hegel'ed.

Please stop perpetuating that meme in such a twisted and misguided manner.

The joke is that virgin does something normal, yet slightly awkward, while Chad does the exact polar opposite exaggerated to the point of absurdity. It is not a "virgin bad chad good, laugh at virgin!" meme, even if a bunch of edits want to turn it into that.

>He'd go alone to the theater on the weekends to see Wagner's plays
Yeah, and Hitler was a big fan of Star Wars.

Schopenhauer was licentious as fuck.

Schopenhauer was a loser, but because he spent his whole privileged life writing shitty philosophy and studying only to be overshadowed by Goethe and Hegel

>Schopenhauer overshadowed by Goethe
Huh? They were barely playing the same game, how did one overshadow the other?

Schopenhauer would not have gone to philosophy if he thought he could have competed against Goethe. He was clearly more literary, rather than philosophically, minded.

because he was ahead of his time

Please elaborate.

I thought Schopenhauer hated Wagner and preferred Mozart

he was right, hegel produced scribblers. just look at engel's portrait of stirner and the rest of hegelians. scribbles.

...

Because he came closer to Completing the System of German Idealism. Which would only be Completed with the rise of the Kantian US President Donald Trump.

>tomorrow
Hilarious, but would be better if Chad was on photon.

If you had read either you might have realized that Goethe plagiarized Schopenhauer numerous times, while Schopenhauer is not known to have plagiarized Goethe. Schopenhauer was an immensely productive creative mind, and comparing their philosophies, Schopenhauer clearly has broader explanatory power.

Note that Goethe completely misreads Kant's layout of a priori and a posteriori, to an amateurish degree, while Schopenhauer diligently noted Kant's scholastic misinterpretations of the ancients.

Their lectures were scheduled at the same time, meaning that hardly anyone ever attended Arthur's. Hegel was instantly recognized as one of the most important philosophers of his time and reportedly didn't even know who Schopenhauer was.

why does Nietzsche always lick Schop's boots?

he corrected kant. you're lick his bare feet if you were lucky enough to be reborn as his poodle.

Schoppy intentionally scheduled his lectures at the same time as Hegel's and got BTFO'd.

He deserved, really. I mean I like the guy's philosophy but Schoppy is a bit of a faggot irl.

He was butthurt about who?

Because both of them are avid pessimists.

>Why was he so butthurt about Hegel?

He was butthurt about everything because he was an atheist/nihilist. While Hegel was a Chad Theist who was woke.

Chad should be a phone poster

According to Schopenhauer

Schopenhauer never listened to Wagner's music, but he had read the librettos for the Ring, and he annotated it extensively. Apparently Wagner never recieved a response (according to Cosima, as you can read in the article I'm going to link, Wagner was still disgruntled cause of it 20 years later).

>What Schopenhauer found consistently exasperating about Wagner's style were his characteristic composite nouns, like Felssteine, Felsensaum, Felsspitze (rocks, rocky edge, rocky peak). "Ears!" Schopenhauer repeatedly penciled in the margin in his powerful hand, "he has no ears! the deaf musician."
>Schopenhauer also seems to be amused by the inept and tongue-twisting description in Siegfried of the dragon, Fafner, which he underlines and marks with an exclamation mark: eidechsenartiger Schlangenwurm (lizardlike serpent-worm) is apparently just a bit too much for him. (In 1904 Wagner biographer W. A. Ellis, who knew of Schopenhauer's comments, came to his hero's rescue, somewhat unhelpfully, by pointing out that this was a zoologically accurate description of an iguanodon.) Siegfried's simplemindedly blunt self-introduction to Gunther in Götterdämmerung--"Now fight with me, or be my friend!"--rates three astonished exclamation marks in the margin. Nor does the pencil-happy critic seem able to take Brünnhilde entirely seriously. When she announces her intention to be burned alive, and on horseback, too, on Siegfried's funeral pyre, Schopenhauer, who drew so much inspiration from Indian culture, writes "Suttee" in the margin. This is hardly a compliment; more likely it indicates amused surprise about the inappropriateness of such fulsome expression of sorrow in the world of Nordic mythology.

Jesus Christ, he truly was a brutal critic. Wagner's ghost on suicide watch

Thats a bit of a fucking leap to take from a one word annotation

He disapproved of everyone who wasn't Plato, Kant or Himself philosophy-wise.
Also jealousy of Hegel's success, i suppose.
Also muh buddhism, muh pessimism.
