It's hard for me to believe that Adorno was all that intelligent of a music critic, because he is one in a long line of critics who either prefer Schoenberg to Webern, or who praise Schoenberg without even mentioning Webern. It may seem a pedantic point, but it is an important one, because even if you like Schoenberg, you cannot but say that Webern is the superior composer. He took Schoenberg's "experiment" and turned it into a rigorous, uncompromising artistic vision
