Hello Veeky Forums! I have never been on this board before, but I think I came to the right place. I'm going on vacation with my girlfriend tomorrow. Since she picked a spot where all we can do is chill at the resort and on the beach, I need a good book to pass the time. If anyone is willing to help me, please post your favorite book that you have ever read. I'm going to go to the library tomorrow before we leave and pick out one or two books that you recommend.

Shameless self bump

read any of hte following

they changed my life

Derrida
Michael Foucalt
Marx Stirner
Adam Smith to understand economics' role in government (Capitalism)
Shakespear
Machiavelli to learn how evil humans can be
Alberto Eco
"The Communist Manifesto" and understand the U.S. Articles of Confederation, even if you disagree with their philosophies.
Dante (fucking Dante)
Homer (not Simpson)
RIchard Dawkins (for dispelling all the god fairytales and other b**shit)
Neil deGrasse Tyson to understand our place in the universe

Also, don't hesitate to teach yourself. Read good news like the Economist or the Guardian. Watch Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, etc.

For something light travel reading that wont be too engrossing

try

-Homage to Catalonia - Orwell or for that matter any of his non 1984 books
-Candide by Voltaire
-The Golden Ass by Apuleius

Let me just reply for everyone who's on Veeky Forums to get this shitshow over with

The stranger by Camus would be perfect for a beach resort read OP

Pick up Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's great for novice readers who want to get into better books.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm from a small European country, so I doubt that our local library has all of them. I'll try to get my hands on one of the suggested ones

The poster in was trolling you

I wanted to make him feel good about his trash post. His pathetic ass probably laughed when he thought that I would go to the library and actually borrow something from that list. Even tho this is Veeky Forums it's still Veeky Forums

Gulliver's travel
Invisible cities

>Recommending Neil Memegrass Tyson

Are you 13?

East of Eden by Steinbeck.

It is beautiful and funny and sad and expansive enough to last for a vacation.

I dont know where you are at in life, but dont listen to this troll. My favorites are Beyond Good and evil, and Brave New World. Cant go wrong with Joyce or Hemingway

This actually

Oh, or Travels With Charley if you don't want to go for an epic. Or basically anything else Steinbeck wrote.

>Alberto Eco

This.

Count of Monte Cristo my man.

You only caught that one, huh?

No I caught the others too.
>Michael Foucalt
>Marx Stirner
>Shakespear

can highly recommend german stuff. try hermann hesse or franz kafka. there are plenty of good english versions as well

Kek'd heartily at
>Alberto Eco
>Marx Stirner
chuckled at
>Homer (not Simpson)

Ah, Hermann Hesse, the old german Paulo Coelho

Turgenev is good holiday reading – I'd recommend this, "first loves" or "torrents of Spring". You should be able to get a few of them in one book

Communist Manifesto isn't the best socialist text for beginners. If you're prepared to get your noggin joggin a little read Socialism: Utopian and Scientific, it's better.

>Machiavelli
>evil
explain

Men of Goodwill by Jules Romains is an excellent book for a light beach read.

"Trout fishing in H'merica" by Richard Broughtigansidge

>Joyce
Ah, yes. Ulysses. Or, as I like to call it: the much ballyhooed tale of a Jewish cuck and a thousand and one allusions and bodily functions. How very "riveting". A classic. Second in importance only to Harry Potter, and maybe Twilight.

Are these rec threads being made by the poster forcing his pasta or is the user just lurking around waiting to spread his shitty joke?

He's been posting this in many threads.
