This. It's not that hard

This. It's not that hard.

it's easier to halve that double for 15%.
move decimal
halve and add
wala 15%

>check

>To Insure Prompt Service

How does tipping afterwards do this? If waiters were time travelers, they wouldn’t be fucking waiters.

>I not only have to pay for my food but also give the waiter 20% of what I pay to ensure he actually does something an ape could do properly
Fuck off, Americans truly are the dumbest fucking people on earth

Get a real job, it's your employer's job to pay you, not mine. The rest of the civilized planet considers tipping an insult; you should feel embarrassed.

You always have to pay restaurant staff, retard.

Then the restaurant would have to pay their employees. Think of the poor owners.

Am I imagining it, or has the "acceptable" tip % been gradually climbing over the decades?

I tip $5 and that's it. Sometimes that's a 50% tip, sometimes it's not. Deal with it.

Not in proper countries, in proper coutries it's the restaurant's job to pay employees, you know, the way it should be

>shitty service
>extended wait before waitress take our order
>drinks take 20 minutes
>food arrives cold
>no refills if drinking anything without alcohol
>still expected to tip
Fuck servers

>le deal with it xD
What an alpha male.

nigga who the fuck even eats in at restaurants anymore no one asks you to tip for carryout

>hurr hurr I can't infer the transfer of money past my own transaction.
>hurr hurr the restaurants don't get money from me to pay employees.
I would say educate yourself, but you're obviously mentally incapable.

Fuck you.

you said anything about delivery, you invalid?

Should be ensure not insure

Americans are terrified of inflation and many do not see dining-out as a luxury, so they expect non-franchised restaurants to risk a

$1 tip is all any servant is getting from me. Maybe $2 if they are pretty. Don't like your job? Go back to school.

Yes. Thats why I bid fuckoff to this bullshit percentage farce long ago.

people who fuck this up deserve to starve in an alleyway
effect/affect same fate

>They'd rather delude themselves and pay two separate bills.
I'd rather be in charge of judging the quality of the service, if someone else judges the quality then i'm screwed.

The risk of enterprise should fall on the entrepreneur, not the employees.
Fuck this "must tip" bullshit. Pay your waiters!

(then again, knowing they don''t get paid enough in the US, if I were there I'd tip)

I consider myself a generous tipper, usually 20-25% for good service, and I wouldn't leave anything.

I am so fucking glad I don't live in America and caterers actually get fucking paid.

Seriously, why isn't that shit illegal? Why should employees have to rely almost solely on customers for income? Ridiculous.

>Why should employees have to rely almost solely on customers for income?
Direct service allows for quick/accurate judgement of service.

>To Insure Proper Service
>Insure

Waiter education, everyone

Thank fuck someone said it.

I don't give a shit though -- I want to get something to eat, not play boss for some random fuck

Veeky Forums education as well, apparently, considering it took an esl and 30 posts for someone to point it out

>insure
>not ensure
Jesus christ. This is why the only people that ever deserve tips are the cooks. Even a monkey could be a waiter.

I can't wait for the time when robots will deliver your food so we can stop dealing with ungrateful shits that don't like their job and expect extra money for doing their job.

I don't mind tipping at a higher-end place. When the server will explain the different wine and beers, go into detail on the cheese plate or dessert tray, recommended doneness for different cuts etc. Plus the service is always just plain wonderful, never sitting there waiting to get attention.
I don't need a server to carry my food from the kitchen and refill my cup 3 times. I'd rather it just be fast food style for any place under $30/plate. I wouldn't have to wait on refills or sauces, pay a tip, or talk to a retard.

>expect extra money
That's the thing, they barely get paid. The greedy employer expects the customer to pay their salaries.

But yeah, 100% with you on the waiters-getting-replaced-with-robots thing

So where are you from?

Of course they are paid like shit, because there's an expectation they'll be fine with the tips they get. If there was no culture of giving tips by default the employers would be forced to pay decent wages.

>bong (((english)))

>judging your own service is playing boss.
The absolute state non-american pansies asses.
Pussies can't even reward good service or confront bad service directly.

>Even a monkey could be a waiter.
I would pay more of a tip if my waiter were a monkey desu.

> Seriously defending having to pay twice with random elements instead of one flat, proper rate
I'm even a true American (have the bullet wound to prove it) and I hate tipping. Why don't I tip my mechanic or my physical therapist but my hair dresser or waiter needs them to survive? Pay your employees or don't have them.

>reminder that there's a thread up right now about an user too autistic to buy groceries at a store that doesn't have self checkouts

stfu bitch. i want fucking food im not asking for the world, just dont be a cunt and i wont be a cunt back

Our retarded tipping custom is nothing to be proud of. He's right, compensation should be handled by employers and bills should be for the actual amount you're supposed to pay for their overall product including whatever they believe is a fair amount to cover their service expenses.

>walks 20 ft between kitchen and table carrying a tray
>refills your drink once
>"that will be an extra five dollars please"

Yeah, naw.

Are you saying you give bigger tips to niggers?

I guess it is impressive they have a job in the first place, so might as well give them some positive reinforcement.

France, where waiter get paid a decent salary and tips are meant to reward excellent service

Waiting tables is not that hard.

nah he's saying it would be far more entertaining having a literal monkey as a waiter

>Implying

I tell my server directly to his face I won't be tipping before I order. The trick is to never go to the same restaurant twice.

>I want to feel big when I give the wagecuck $4 instead of 5

It definitely would be more fun.

The monkeys wouldn't be able to take orders, but you can do that with a tablet, and they would just bring the food to your table.

But probably some kind of organization like PETA would get involved because of animal cruelty or some shit like that.

>Go to Japan
>No tipping
>Always got fast service
>Got hot towels to wipe hands everywhere
>Everyone is polite
I was so used to the dining experiences here where you get mediocre service, and the waitress expected a huge chunk on top.

now you understand why it exists. it all plays in to the American mentality of feeling big and important

In Japan people are extremely loyal to their occupation and will always strive to impress because of the shame culture.

Internet tough guy.

They let others judge the quality of the service i've received.
You can't make this shit up!

who doesnt want to have a shit flinging fight with monkeys after a delicious meal?

You know why you work for tips?

Because no one will give you the whole thing.

I remember it being 8-10% for good service when I was like 12. Then 12-15% then 15-18%, then 18-20% and now it's 20%-22% and in some places even 25%. The percentage is rising at a faster rate.

And you play to that by being forever obsessed with them.

kek

A friendly guide for you fucking retards.

>In Japan people are extremely loyal to their occupation and will always strive to impress because they are not entitled mutts who think they're better than everyone else just because they exist
fixed

keep telling yourself that. its you who are obsessed with us Europeans, always see you gullible, loud-mouthed retards harping on about your italian or irish ancestry or some shit.

well guess what? you aren't European. you are a disgusting, obnoxious burger who subsists on miracle whip and reeses pieces

Here's a simpler frendlier guide:
0% always except when you feel like they really went their way out for you and then tip as much as you feel is right.

>salon or barbershop
I go to small shops so prices are negotiable. I just pay for what I get.

That too. Japan has a group-oriented society, they do not place much importance on the individual at all

no, because you have to subtract tax first

>tipping for takeout

are you fucking serious?

>tip at least 15% even if you received terrible treatment

why?

Why should I not tip my priest, my doctor, my gardener, the mcdonalds staff member who picks up my tray, my mechanic, the busdriver?

Individualism is overrated. Most people are too stupid to actually be individuals.

Because they get paid actual wages

Taking pride in one's work is not necessarily a bad thing.

Alright you got me.

Tip the bartender more, for spending longer on a drink, to insure his prompt service? You'd be paying for a service you didn't receive.

Why not increase the price by 20% and pay the workers a normal wage?

>Tipping at barbershops
>Tipping at takeouts
This is fucking ridiculous america

Agreed 100%.

Maybe they would get paid actual wages if people stopped tipping? Just a thought.

>I'm too cheap to give people a bonus.

I tip a dollar or 2 at this Chinese takeout place. It's for the office, so I have to split it up on 3-5 credit cards typically and I feel bad.

>if you don't tip well I won't serve you well
So after the guise of good manners, morality, etc this is what it really comes down to?

*nods respectfully towards you*

Yeah I wasn't implying that. In fact I think the shame culture is a good thing. It encourages people to behave like people.

you don't tip at takeouts unless it's a huge/complex order that takes actual work to get to you without fucking it up
you always tip your barber if you don't want them to fuck your shit up the next time

>They let others judge the quality of the service i've received.
Here's a crazy idea, maybe if they just do their job as expected then they should make some agreed upon consistent salary, and if they fuck up really badly then the employers can find different candidates for the job instead.
I don't understand why anyone would *want* to get paid based on some obsessive minute to minute performance judging process. That would honestly be pretty demeaning if I constantly had people giving me nitpick pay decreases or patronizing pay increases based on stupid shit like how much I smiled at them, but fortunately I'm autistic enough to just do programming for a living and even the amount of time I work doesn't change my salary. Don't know why anyone would want things any other way than what a fixed salary arrangement would provide.

>Giving free money to people who don't deserve it

you thought wrong

Because they wouldn't get more than $10-12 as a wage. They make waaayyyyy more than that now from tips.

that would be great. but the arrangement benefits employers so they will hold on to it

Why? Lets run this thought experiment in our heads:

>through some kind of cultural shift people start tipping more
>this means waiters(and other trades that used to get tips) get less money for the same work
>this means that they either change a job to one that pays better or just quit without even finding an aleternative
>this in turn means that restaurant managers are short for staff, which means they have to raise wages to attact more potential employees
Isn't this how it works?

No, I'm pretty sure if tipping somehow fell out of style so much that service staff started making a small fraction of what they used to from tips then this would force employers to pay service staff more to keep them from having an incentive to find a different sort of job. It's not like waiters are stuck only being waiters, there are plenty of other unskilled positions they could switch to if compensation wasn't as good.

depends on the restaurant, a server at a shitty diner might only get 20 bucks in tips a shift and one at a nice steakhouse might get a few hundred

>and if they fuck up really badly then the employers
So you're a pussy that lets others handle your poor service.
>I'm autistic enough to just do programming for a living
so yeah, a code monkey pussy. I completely understand why you are too timid for society.

>not incentivizing employees and business owners
>encouraging minimum work effort, low ethics and standards
And you wonder why Europe is shit.

>people start tipping more
I meant less. Fuck, I'm not even drunk.

>tipping bartenders

Hahaha, the absolute audacity of an American to call Europe shit, you have never even been in a European restaurant you inbred hick

>needing an actual bottle opened to open a bottle
This is why modern civilisaiton is doomed to failure. A real man can open a beer with most things in his surroundings.

Why would my tipping encourage business owners ? Also you do realize that being a waiter here is actually a profession due to them being paid properly, leading to proper service with or without the incentive of tipping ? Fucking american mongrel

Servers in one state made every effort to stop a law that would raise minimum wage to 15$ and remove tips from server jobs.
Because they already make more than that on the average, in part due to them not reporting their cash tips like the tax evading fucks they are.

It's worded really poorly. What it means is "More complicated drinks deserve a bigger tip precentage." It's not saying that you should tip more if the bartender takes ten minutes to poor you a beer, it's saying that your tip should be larger if your drink requires ten steps and five different pieces of equipment.
