I shit you not.
My father and I had been living in Beijing for all of three months. Neither of us had much of a grasp on the language, let alone the reading comprehension for Mandarin.
My dear old father had always made a good minestrone, but always added a meat.
We went down to the Lan Dao(蓝岛大厦) mall grocery store, bought the ingredients for minestrone, and bought what we thought was shaved goat.

After a few months of learning to read, write and speak Mandarin, turns out it was dog.

Natural casing hotdogs with sauteed onions and maple syrup. I use maple syrup from vermont, but just make sure its not a crappy brand. It ends up tasting like a maple glazed ham.
