It's not my favourite cut but I end up having it a lot because of the price. And it's very good for what it costs.

Any tips? I use a full charcoal chimney and let the top coals ash over then dump, it doesn't seem to be hot enough.

Not sure. I usually pan sear my steaks if they're thin. I only ever grill thinker ones like filets and ribeyes.

Do the chef john trick. Leave it open in your fridge overnight. Dries it out a bit but will sear nicely in exchange.

Low IQ's use a grill. High IQ's use a hot cast iron.

The only way to get any smokiness is from the grill.
