How do you put up with this, this is a real thing that happened to me btw.

Anywhere with a 5 dollar lunch is probably not a place where you're expected to tip. A situation like your picture with counter service is for example, you're not expected to tip.

No that's impossible are these people just working for free.

They're paid an hourly wage.

do people actually give tips in America? I find it hard to imagine niggers giving tips

My friend once tipped a pizza guy $20, but then he ruined any karmic value by telling us about it. Canadian, by the way.

You're absolutely right, blacks never tip, or if they do it's like $1-2 for a $50 meal

Attached: 1520479240931.png (1280x720, 1.63M)

haven't ever given a tip unless the delivery driver was cute and i sure as shit don't tip 15% to waiters

Brit here to ask stupid questions.
Whenever i see these threads americans say you tip people for their service, so why does the price of the meal come into the equation? Regardless of the type or price of the meal the service is still the same correct? Surely it'd make more sense to calculate a tip based off of how many people are dining or how many meals are served.

Canadian here. I don't understand that mode of thinking either, even though it's commonplace here. Some places automatically add tip (they call it gratuity) if you have groups larger than a certain number (like 8 people).

Gratuity is different than tipping, it’s basically an inconvenience fee

But when normally tipping you generally tip 15-20% of the total meals cost. 10 is for ultra cheapskates, 15 is ok, 20 is what most middle class people I know do.
It’s absolutely pointless, I don’t understand why it still exists as a tradition here. It’s understandable in higher class restaurants where the server may give more personal service but in general it’s ridiculous

One area where I agree with blacks on. Tipping is a stupid custom that I hope we can get rid of one day.

>But when normally tipping you generally tip 15-20% of the total meals cost

I remember when it was 10-15%. In the near future you'll be considered a cheapskate for only tipping 20% and not 25%.

The same reason why we get shot all the time - we're too stupid to figure it out

This also puzzled me when it came to drinks. If I take two glasses of wine to my food, should it really equate to 5, 6 bucks of additional tips to the waiter?

Be in normal country
>Have a good day at school sweetie!
>I'll try dad, love you!
Be in Bongistan
>Oi love try'n not offend our Muslim bruvvas today eh?
>Yes da'
>*gets dragged into 1000 girl rape ring*

How do you put up with this?

In Brazil (at least in the state where i live) they just add 10% of the price as the tip and you have to go to the counter or talk with whoever gave you the recipt and say that you don't want to tip, it's not so bad

It scales poorly but generally speaking a more expensive place also has better service

I always just round my bill up to the next dollar
So most of my tips end up in the $0.67 area
It's not like they have to do anything difficult

When did it become 20%?
>Tfw ive been unamerican and only tipping 10% for years

Imagine being so assblasted you have to make America threads every day. Imagine how pathetic that person would have to be.

I don't think there's an official tipping rate, but I know a lot of people tip 20%. The easy answer is just to push for tipped positions to get the same minimum wage as non-tipped so you don't feel guilted into tipping something like 20%.

>giving customers prices without tax
How fucking stupid is this shit?
I WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE THING, NOT HOW MUCH IT WOULD POTENTIALLY COST IF THE GUBBERNMENT WAS NOT FUCKING ME OVER.

Attached: what the fuck is this shit - treize.jpg (709x480, 52K)

That's why I love this local pizza joint that works the tax into their prices. Their 4 dollar slice is 4 dollars exactly.

Why would you think OP is a bongistani?

(((Normal))) countries don’t have tax? That’s a new one to me.

>4 dollar slice

better be the size of a small child

If I were to be naive and defend that I would say that it's because state sales taxes would vary the prices slightly and it allows national vendors to set universal prices on stuff they sell without worrying about taxes.

I'm confident though that it's just a precedent set to increase consumer prices in a bullshit way that isn't apparent when comparing goods. Kind of like how things cost $4.99 rather than just $5 even though there's virtually no difference. It's all marketing.

>I don't understand why it still exists
>People who only tip $10 are cheap!
Let me into your thought process.

>calculate price of product and let the vendor handle taxes
or
>calculate exact tax in every state for every product and keep it up to date all the time for no actual gain
wow why isn't tax included in your prices shitlord?

>having different taxes between states
>having different taxes for different products
>having taxes change often enough for it to be a problem

Attached: 1521008312424.png (250x271, 136K)

So? Only more reason to have the vendor handle it.

Rule of thumb is a tip should be 15-20 percent the price of the meal.

It's big yeah.

I agree, I'm just contemplating outloud how fucked US tax codes are.

nowhere has a 25% sales tax

>normal
Hahahahahahaha let me guess, you think being normal is a good thing?

Some states don't have sales tax either, it's pretty sweet. But we also aren't harboring 50million illegals... we earned our low cost of living.

That's too fucking much. 10 is fine.

Isn't there only like 4 or 5 states without sales tax though? One of them being Alaska anyway.

I went to school in OR and the no sales tax was pretty nice, but they obviously make up for it in other ways, especially if you want to own property. Not sure what you think you’ve earned, or what illegals have to do with anything.

>be american
>get shot
>tip shooter for excellent service

Attached: 1501880914171.jpg (306x164, 8K)

It's literally the size of a small child.

56% the baby

But why tho? if I order a $500 plate the tip is $75 to $100 and the waiter did a single trip to the kitchen with one plate, now if a family of four order some cheap 3 course meal and spends $400, the waiter would have to trave to travel 3 times to the kitchen and carry 4 plates each time instead of one, yet the tip would be $60 to $80, makes no sence to charge by the price of the meal there, am I making any sence?

Don't fucking kid yourself, boyyo; you've never had a $500 meal in your life. Your meals probably cost that much after two months.

Don't fucking kid yourself, boyyo; you've never had a $500 meal in your life. Your meals probably cost that much after two months.

Be in superior America
>Hello i'd like the $5 dollar lunch
>Sure that'll be $5.30 with tax

Be in eurup
>Hello i'd like the €5 euro lunch
>Sure that'll be €5000.00 with sales tax, GST, carbon recovery tax, Muslim migrant housing tax, tv tax, LGBT sex change tax, Queen’s corgis tax, free speech tax and White privilege tax

Attached: Queen-and-Corgis.jpg (1409x959, 196K)

>Hello I'd like the equivalent $5 meal here in Europe
Yes that will be $5 for half a ham sandwich, a 4oz packet of crisps, and 8 oz of apple juice

>Hello I'd like a good old American $5 meal
Yes that will be $6.27 plus tip for 3 pancakes, 2 eggs, 4 rashers of bacon, hashbrowns, unlimited coffee, toast with jam and butter, and 2 sausage patties

I get the concept, the price says 5 so the amount that should be deducted from my wallet should be 5. Not a completely weird complaint. And tipping is a foreign concept but it ensures better service and you factor that into your price point. Instead of being culturally retarded, like how you don't randomly strike up a convo with a Finn or tell an Italian his mother sucks at cooking,.maybe learn about the culture you're traveling in before you embarrass yourself again fucking uncultured swine. It takes like 4 minutes not to fuck up ordering cappuccinos before 10 in Italy so learn how to tip in America

>having money pre-stolen from you by your government for your convenience.

If you're a Jew, yeah sure.

>People
>Niggers
Answered your own question

your joke would be funny but prices are always tax inclusive in europe so it makes no sense

T. Lives on tips. You'll get 5% and you'll like it, bitch

Is it common to pay for the meal with credit card but exclude the tip and leave a cash tip?

I've heard servers prefer this because they can dodge tax.

>In recent years, some waiters and restaurants have suggested that 25% or even 30% is the proper gratuity level, and that a 20% tip, once considered generous, is just average today.

This is fucking ludicrous

Your boss is the jew in refusing to properly pay me. Its not my fault you have a labour issue.

>America is the only country on Earth that has taxes

This is making me not want to eat out ever again, I always tip 10% and all this time they have probably thought I'm a cheap piece of shit. Well fuck that.

So if I tip 10 dollars on a 50 dollar meal that's not enough? The service industry can seriously eat shit. These assholes pull in like 200 dollars an hour on tips.

Yes, that's very common. And like you said, servers prefer it because they don't have to report it. I still mostly tip with my card because I don't carry a lot of cash on me or enough to make change.

I don't see why europoors make such a big deal about tipping. I normally average 20% for good service. At my regular bar k tip 30% to my best bartender because she always hooks me up and puts up with all my bullshit. You get what you pay for.

yeah this is one thing I don't get. If we're all just paying these tips out of charity for the poor starving waiters, why should they make more money just because they work at an expensive restaurant? Those waiters make plenty of money and don't need my charity. When I pay $100 for a steak I tip 0. The god damned guy bringing me the steak is better dressed than I am, he should be tipping me.

Actually in the normal country it's a $10 lunch and it's smaller than the $5 lunch in America because your prices include 30% VAT + mandatory refugee resettlement contribution.

Things are different in different countries. Go figure.

I don't agree with tipping zero but you're right, man. It's totally fucked. Bar tenders are also rolling in cash. They earn more than fucking lawyers and engineers.

>he thinks no sales tax is a good thing

Underage detected. The best states actually have sales tax, but they have no state or local income tax. Income tax is a lot more than sales tax.

There's literally a tip jar at everything. You might not have noticed it. It's usually empty, too, and when you do tip it almost shocks them.

It shocks them because you're not actually expected to tip. It's how tips should be done, only if you feel like it and only if you've received exceptional service. Not this "tip or you're literally the devil" nonsense you get in sit-down restaurants.

Seriously bro I feel you. I feel super disillusioned and guilty now
I might as well have been tipping zero apparently.

Fuck society.

Also property tax coming from people I've known in New Hampshire.

So why are you guys always saying niggers are dumb? It sounds like they're smarter than the rest of you.

You didn't disprove my main point though, faggot. We have low cost of living. You and your fellow calimexicans however pay 3,000 a month to rent studio apartments.

I hear ya.

All I can think about now is how many lovely waitresses think I'm cheap, when I thought I was giving a proper tip. Feels bad.

>4 rashers of bacon
What is a rasher? One tiny piece?

There's no federal sales taxes. It's determined by state, county, and city. It's infinitely easier to calculate sales tax at the cash register. Especially since certain items may be sales tax exempt. It's also easier to get people to spend more since most people don't factor sales taxes when shopping.

user, states trick you when they offer no sales, income or property taxes. Take Texas for example. No income taxes but their property taxes are high.

States just shift the responsibility of taxes between the population. Business can take the hit, the general population can take the hit or property owners can take the hit.

>be ESL

20% became the new norm, so naturally those with an entitlement problem will expect more. Unless you go to a high end restaurant, it's no longer worth sitting down to eat. Most places just reheat frozen food anyway

bump

>10% = $10
Wow.

Try this... when they say yes, what can I get you... you say oh, this is for you, show them the tip, and drop in the jar. Then place your order to the now smiling worker.

I don't know if it is because of tipping but American waiters made me feel uncomfortable.
They kept asking me about my day and referring me by my name (sometimes through reading it from my credit card). It's their way of being polite I guess but it's certainly a culture shock from European or Asian perspective.

Just the smarmy fake ass social conventions the boomer generation somehow enjoyed. You can nip it in the bud by just cutting them off and telling them, "Look, nix the smarmy bullshit and just serve my food and drinks effeciently. I do not want social interaction with you. Got it?"

Youd have to think up a better way of wording that however, unless you want to come of as a total, *total* tool

Server, here
Common practice is that the expected tip should be ~25% even if the server is bad. We have mouths to feed and if you don’t tip, you’re a piece of shit and I’m going to spit in your food

>25% even if the server is bad

Attached: 1520032183694.png (2560x1440, 1.76M)

Obvious fake, but I'm going to respond seriously as I know there are actual servers who think like this.

You should be lucky to receive any tip at all. Your work requires no skill, your easily replaceable, and if you have mouths to feed then learn some marketable skills and get a better job.

well thats local government. no sales tax in the normal hard working states, only the socialist utopia™ do you pay tax on goods.

It's this. Sales tax often varies by county too.
