no

Not really. You should have an immersion blender and a food processor instead.

yes

if you regularly drink vegetable juices and smoothies then yes

Rec me a blender that doesn't suck.

I own one, but I love margaritas and Pina colada’s, and sometimes I make milkshakes for my kids.

Blendtec is unironically good

vitamix 5200.
Don't get any model with the small canister to fit under the cabinets as it breaks the engineering and design of the blender.

Just get a $50 breville.

Definitely. I own both a food processor and a blender, but I hardly ever use the processor and pretty much use my blender everyday.

Besides drinks, smoothies and milkshakes, I mostly use it to make hummus, guacamole, salsa, as well as for blending down sauces.

Just make sure you get a decent one.

oh and to add. Get the vitamix 5200 refurbed and if you can't afford it then just get an immersion blender as stated in the thread.

Thoughts on the ninja that comes with a food procesor?

I researched before buying for ages, and my final choices were between this and a vitamix. The breville is much cheaper though, and in all reviews the difference between it and the vitamix was negligible.

The only major negative about the breville is the noise. It's extremely loud, but that doesn't bother me at all.

but a refurbed 5200 is 30 bucks cheaper and includes a 5 year warranty. 8 year for 75 bucks more.

It is for me because I'm incredibly lazy and don't put together complete meals 90% of the time, so I can just blend a bunch of veggies together and drink that instead

If you cook a lot, a blender (vitamix style) and chinois is the only way to get truly smooth textures in a lot of recipes.

That is pretty chef larping tier.

I tried to make a pasta sauce consisting of softened onions and bell peppers but realized halfway through reading the recipe that the sauce needs to be puree'd.
I didn't own a blender or anything like a blender, so I just dumped it all into a mortar and pestle and turned it into a paste. Not a very good result.

YES!! And check this out:

How else are you going to make fresh home-made salsa?

it would need to be strained whether you used a blender or pestle...

What is this exactly? And why didn't upload this image on this IMAGEboard?

Yeah. Get a CleanBlend. And earmuffs too.

cp, AVOID!

Just get one these bad boys

looks like the inner mechanism of a cassette or vhs player. wtf?

>turn a 5 minute job into a 1 hour job

if you have the desire to make smoothies and/or milkshakes

Can I make nut milk using one of these? Or do I get a food processor?

I have it. It's nice, if you can afford it

I have a meme machine Nutribullet RX because I like to chug my fruits and vegetables all in one go, I mean like fuckin pound them, and I think it's nice to be honest.
I need to get a small food processor for occasional use but I've been too lazy to do it.

>Is it worth owning a blender?
Absolutely. A good strong blender is one of the most useful tools in the kitchen. There are almost too many applications to list.

Ice, mostly, from what i use mine for at the very least, Chuck steak... sometimes, after its frozen
makes, just... the best hamburger patties. smoothies, blendes, frappes, i cut jamba out of my life. puree some bannana, apple slices, strawberry, and non-fat greek yogurt and itll show you a good time.

Yeah, I use the shit out of my vitamix. I blend whole onions, carrots, celery, and other vegetables into a smooth puree, then roast and reduce it to a DIY vegetable bullion. I also use it for pureeing other soups, or processibg beets for borscht. Also make cashew and macadamia cream, smoothies, etc.

Making nut milks requires high speed. A food processor is useless, you need a blender.

it's one of the big 4 after pots and pans of things you want in a kitchen. It's usually the last in importance though.
Mixer
Food processor
A good digital scale
Blender

I find my blender more useful than all of the other three items you mentioned. I suppose it depends on exactly what you're doing.

a cheese cloth and strainer is almost as good, and it doesn't cost $100 for a fine mesh cone.

Agreed about the cheesecloth + strainer being nearly as good as a good chinois, but I find that with a really good blender (like blendtec or vitamix) you don't even need the cloth or the chinois. The purees are fine enough that the strainer is superfluous.

And if you want go go no-hold-barred on getting the finest possible texture then nothing can top a pacojet.

i bought the ninja blender package from costco, it's less than half the price of a vitamix (still probably one of the best blenders on the market) and has both a blender cup and food processor. the blade for the blender is basically a drive shaft that extends to the top, so things will get blended more evenly, and it's removable so it's significantly easier to clean. i don't cook at home beyond breakfast as much as i used to (after cooking all day, the last thing i want to do is cook more) so the blender/processor doesn't see as much use.

You will not get a soup as smooth with an immersion blender as a real one.

Cup blenders are far superior for smoothies, cleaning a normal blender is too much hassle for a single drink.

To sum up ... you want to own a stick blender, a cup blender and a normal blender. They all have their uses and none can replace the others.

The Ninja works very well, just be aware that it's damn small. It's OK for single serving stuff but it's very inconvenient when you have to cook for more than 1 person or if you're making more than 1 meal at a time.

I agree with most of your post, but I fail to see how a cup blender is any easier to clean than a good pro blender like a vitamix or a blendtec. They both have exactly one thing to clean: the blender jar.

Why tf would you use a blender over a processor for hummus?

The cup is far lighter and you can stuff a dish brush in it and reach everywhere. If you clean the blade immediately a single hot rinse is sufficient.

With a normal blender you're slugging around the heavy jar, first scrub the jar and lid to get rid of most of the gunk and then do some cleaning cycles ... fuck blenders, I'll deal with it for soup, not a smoothie.

Yeah

>The cup is far lighter
Who cares?

>can stuff a dish brush in it
How is that different than a blender jar?

And for that matter, why bother with a brush anyway? Stick jar in dishwasher. done.

that shit from magimix is pretty good.

Vitamix knockoffs on aliexpress
They even use Vitamix carafes.

I should say they are compatible with vitamix carafes, they come with their own bpa free versions.

>I should say they are compatible with vitamix carafes
Nice. That means you can get a blendtec carafe for them.

In case you weren't aware, genuine Vitamix jars have had many recalls in the past due to catestrophic failure. Blendtec makes jars that fit Vitamix blenders to get around that problem.

Another rec for blenders: Blendtec sells refurbished models. Last I checked they were less than $200 and still had a full warranty. I'd rather buy that than some random Chinese knockoff.

Just the low profile shit that you shouldn't be using anyway. the shape fucks up the engineering.

>Blendtec sells refurbished models. Last I checked they were less than $200
So in 1998? They are pretty far from under 200 now.

>inb4 user dies from chink blender

Last one I bought was 3-4 years ago; I don't recall exactly.

>Is it worth owning a blender?
Yes. For fruit smoothies if nothing else.
