French Resistance thread

What does Veeky Forums think of the French resistance and De Gaulle?

Overrated and romanticized

Criminals

How so?

They literally didnt do fuck all until June 7th 1944 when they started shaving heads. I find it funny how France's collabration is swept under the rug.

All the France resisted against the ennemy

Foreigners and communists.

Why do French people look so Jewish?

except Vichy

Split between quasi-fascistic nationalists and commies

...

Ce soir l'ennemi connaƮtra le prix du sang et des larmes

Jewish propaganda

literally the same as in belgium... the hardest collaborators were suddenly wearing white armbands and shooting at germans, when it became clear that the nazi landing had succeeded... also, de gaulle was a traitor and a coward, he abandoned his men whilst they were still fighting to run for the UK

>french
>resistance

There's a reason german propaganda loves playing up blacks in the Free French forces, that being that De Gaulle saw more support early on from France's African colonies than from France proper until Normandy.

wtf is young putin doign in background?

An overrated mythos created by the French to hide the shame that they were liberated by the Americans and the British.

france is pathetic

Proud countless off duty fascist got told they couldn't speak german when asking for directions in paris

French resistance denied the holocaust

Same thing today if you try it with English. That's just the French being French.

De Gaulle after the war develloped the myth that "everyone" resisted except for a few collaborator that were already taken care of.
(reality was tht a lot of them stayed in office since they knew how the country was running at that time).
basicallu what says.

But after 1968, and 1970 after De Gaulle's death, the myth withered and for a time collaboration was everyone's fault.

Nowadays the main postition is that a few helped the nazis, a few helped resisting (by taking arms of by staying in administrative position) and the vast majority did a whole lot of nothing but "surviving" during the war.

In some places they bombed rails, telegraphic posts and shot down high-ranking german officers as soon as 1941 but those resistants were

Mostly mad cucks who felt emasculated and chimped out on women who had had relations with Germans.

...

Does those kind of "retaliation" happened in other countries ? In what ways ?

If you wanna read about real resistance read about eastern european ones. Poland is good example

Most of them mainly spanish republicans or foreigners who fought alongside them in the civil war. French didn't start shit until last stages of the war. Fucking cowards.

Well, the firsts maquis, partly manned by the youngs who didn't want to go for the obligatory work thing started in late 1942 iirc, so yeah, not the end of the war.

But yeah communists were definetly among the firsts to act individually then in bigger "teams", but you can be communist AND french :^)

I think so. I heard Soviet partisans often killed such women (and many others who were suspected of helping the Germans). In Norway, these women were generally considered insane and sometimes put into psychiatric clinics. The state tried to get rid of children with German fathers (about 9000). For example, the children were offered to Australia which sought out after immigrants from Europe, but their government declined. I'm pretty sure head shaving probaly also occured in the Netherlands and Belgium. I also remember one account where Dutch partisans killed a baby with a German father.

Enough didn't die

I don't think a large scale partisan uprising would have been useful in France before D-Day. The Germans had lots of troops who basically did nothing in France anyway to protect the Atlantic coast so more resistance activity wouldn't force them to divert more soldiers. The only result would have been a brutal war in France, a lot more hostage killings and destruction.

That Slovakian partisan looks more Veeky Forums than the french guy.

Number of French resistant deported, executed, killed : 77 000. I think any who says they never existed or are exagered can shut the fuck up and do some learning

This. The partisan movement in occupied Yugoslavia is a good example too. Compare these to the French population and you can only conclude that they were cowards.

The Interior resistance had a limited impact. They weren't useless, that's for sure, they probably saved a lot of english/american lives by slowing down the german military maneuvers, hiding downed pilots, and giving a lot of precious intel, but they were auxilliary forces, they could have never liberated France all alone. Especially since the French resistance had a lot of infighting and political maneuvering inside, people playing on both sides and all.

The French Free Forces were an effective military force, the 4th army of the allies. But it is important to remember 2 things : The FFF had american weapons, vehicles and gear, and most of it's forces were drawn from the colonies, not continental France. Not because the french were cowards, but because most of the french army was captured and working in stalag camps. After 1945, as a real french army was created, they again fought with boldness.

So, basically, the french resistance : It existed, it did a lot, it fought bravely, BUT, it was also romanticized as hell and in the end, were only helpful, not necessary. Everything they did, the americans/brits could have done it, it would have just costed them more men and time.

Damn.
You Westerners are really fucken in the head.
First you lose the wars and then when somebody help you win you punish women you fail to protect.

Communists were also the first to collaborate though.
At least until Barbarossa.

Or maybe France was under the firect occupation of nazi germany, with more than 1 million french soldiers captured and sent into camps. Yugoslavia was occupied by multiple countries, like Italy who collapsed in 1943.
