Was Soviet's role in the Soviet-Afghan War equivalent to USAs role in the Vietnam War?

Was Soviet's role in the Soviet-Afghan War equivalent to USAs role in the Vietnam War?

If so: Why/Why not?

Soviets almost pacified the country before Mujahedin started to come there from around the world.

Afghanistan is good old - anglos fund enemies' enemies who turn into their enemies a decade or so later.

Basically:

>non-aligned president Daoud Khan decides to break ties with the USSR and align himself closer to the west
>Soviet-backed commies stage a coup and kill Khan
>communist Taraki takes power
>he gets killed by another communist, Amin
>Amin begins to distance himself from the USSR as well
>Amin gets assassinated by the Soviets, gets replaced by Babrak Karmal
>communists pass a land reform which causes an uprising, which results in a full scale civil war
>2/3 of the army joins the rebels
>commies panic and call for Soviets to help, soon there are Soviet troops deployed into Afghanistan
>USA and Pakis see the opportunity and start funding the rebels
>Soviets chimp out, bomb the country to the stone age and murder 2 million civilians
>ongoing collapse of the USSR / communism forces the Soviets to withdraw after 10 years
>soon after that Afghanistan erupts into another civil war between the mujahedeen and the Pakistani-backed Taliban

gotta love communism and islam

>Radical Islamism vs Communism

What could possibly go wrong?

muslims did nothing wrong in this case

helped bankrupt the soviet union

No, because Soviets actually went in and changed things for the better.

>r*ssians believe this shite

>imperialism is ok when capitalist powers do it
I mean fuck I'm not defending the USSR but the U.S. performed countless operations similar to the USSR in Afghanistan during the Cold War

Where did he say otherwise?

>be in Kabul
>Coлнeчный дeнь - в ocлeпитeльных cнaх starts playing

>Destroy the presidential dictatorship and enstate a government with equality in mind.
>HURR DEY WAS BUTTER OFF WHEN WOMEN ARE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS.

We aren't talking about the Coalition's efforts in Afghanistan though.

Isn't it interesting how whenever Russia starts gaining influence in any country, "moderate" "freedom fighting" rebels pop up all over the place?

I wonder why.

Women's rights were passed by the king and expanded by Daoud. Nothing to do with the Russians, those just went it and fucked shit up for generations.

afghan GDP declined after the Russian invasion of afghanistan, whereas it skyrocketed after the NATO invasion.

that's the difference between subhuman russians and human westerners

Pretty much this. Russians somehow managed to fuck up even a 3rd world country like Afghanistan.

ITT: Leftist appeal to reactionaries to okay killing muslims and arabs

>>Amin begins to distance himself from the USSR as well
Nigger they killed him because he wouldn't stop asking them for help.

Not only that's wrong, it also doesn't make any sense. He got Taraki murdered which angered the Russians and then they allied with Karmal because he was considered more relieble.

For fuck's sake the Soviets actually considered Amin a CIA agent.
