As with anything, it's all about how you wear it, but when my current doc's (that have lasted me years, in fairness) bite the bullet, I won't be buying them again, I'll be looking to other brands.

I got a pair of those at one of those surplus military shops in america but Dr.Martens look different and I kinda like them.
Though the only people who wear those are girls and hipsters, so I'm sort of worried they wouldn't look good with what I usually wear.

These were my first combat boots.
They are uncomfortable & cheap but can be made to look nice if you paint black everything like doc monos or just get doc monos.

Honesty.. Save up more (just like $20+) pass on the docs and buy black Corcoran Jump Boots.

10 eye are overrated, played out and there are cheaper and better alternatives as far as combat boots go.
3 eyes are fucking great though. But as some user said, Martens in general are kinda heavy - my 3 eyes weigh 750 grams each, that's 3 and a half pounds for the pair.

ANYWAY, yeah, Docs are fugly and cliche. Totally agree with that sentiment - the brown/tan sole always bugged me for some reason when I was doing the streetpunk/Oi! thing... same with Sambas. In terms of durability and the whole Oi/punk style, I really really liked Grinders boots in the oxblood color - straight out of "This is England" - absolutely loved them, and they took a beating. HUGE toe box (only offered in steel toe variety last I checked, probably 12 years back or so though).

Recently I found Solovair, and they look great. Definitely check them out as an alternative to Docs. If I remember correctly, Solovair is ACTUALLY made in England (Docs are Chinese since like '08 or so, with the tangible drawback being a slight change in style that accompanied the outsourcing)

Thanks for the tip, I own a few straight leg pairs as well, but I always seem to lean to skinny even with being self concious about my tennis thighs. Funny thing is my calves melted once I stopped playing, but thighs just stayed kinda swole.

As for the Docs, yeah, there are objectively "better" options for low top leather shoes, but the chunky-ness of the docs has a vibe I really like. As far as durability goes I can't say much - I've had 1 pair 8s and one pair 10s, first ones lasted a few years, the other pair started giving in within half a year. This pair in the pic I've had for about 5 months now, but I don't wear them nearly as much as I wore my other Docs when I was a dumb teen punk.

What better alternatives are there for chunky and casual derbies that don't cost 400+ euros?
