For example, after they were brought to the west by sailors visiting islands and shit, but before machine tattooing was invented and drastically lowered the entry cost and asking price, they were most popular in the upper classes, especially britain, as a mark of exotic luxury.

I think it's also common in some religions to be offended at modifying the body as its intervening on god's creation. Maybe you're just instilled with christcuckoldry even if you don't admit it yourself
