How effective were balliste?

Were they used primarily as anti-personnel or as a siege weapon against fortifications?

...

...

>Here we see a drawing of Hajaaricus.

...

...

Very useful against tight formations of infantry, if I recall correctly. Could pierce shields, and then the guy behind the shield, and then the guy behind that...

Quasimodo joins the legion

You sure they didn't have beards? Never? Actual question, seems strange since it probably wasn't always possible to shave properly with the tools of the time and also the empire reigned over a lot of places were beards were an important masculine feature.

It was literally made in the 19th century, they didn't know as much as we do.

Hmm? Not always they don't, ballistae can shoot darts/spears as well as rocks. The scorpio was just a later form of the ballista.

Metatron made a video about it. Go check it out

>Marcus, stop hitting on the Germanic women. This dwarf following us is really creeping me out.

...

>Gee Billius! How come your mom lets you wear three skirts?

late republican legionary equipment are my favorite

Why do 3rd century Legionaries always have those slightly different looking Scutums?

Good Thread.

bamp

I know that at least after the Marian reforms up to 1st century AD legionaries were issued shaving kits and required to remain clean shaven.

Beards would have come back into fashion among the military at least by Hadrian's time, because he caused scandal for having a beard like his men. It also became more accepted afterwards.

I've always been a fan of the segmenta legionaries myself. I'm a sucker for armor porn.

>stirrups
Is this historically accurate?
