Roman Empire

So who really was the founder of Roman Empire ? Caesar or Augustus ?

Jesus

J-E-S-U-S... that's not how people generally spell Caesar :^T

Is Yeshua better?

Caesar of course.

Closer. Still missing the C, second A, and R.

implying it's not sulla

Depends what you mean by the Roman Empire.

If all you mean is a wide-ranging group of territories and cultural groups administrated directly or indirectly by the Roman government, well that shit predates either of the two and dates back probably to the late third century BC when Rome started to swing its dick all over Carthage, Macedon, and the Seleucids and gain client states in the eastern/southern Mediterranean. In that sense there wasn't any one founder in particular.

If what you mean is when the first guy held unlimited supreme power over the state such that he could have been called emperor, Marius and Sulla had both done that before Caesar came along and there isn't really much exceptional about the way Caesar did it.

If what you mean is the first guy to be called emperor as such, that's Imperator Caesar Divi Filius Augustus.

If what you mean is when Rome's territorial boundaries for the remainder of its unified existence pretty much coalesced, that's Imperator Caesar Divi Filius Augustus.

Caesar started the process but Augustus actually finished the consolidation of power.

Aeneas

Why Caesar Augustus of course

Well, it was the first emperor and not the dictator.

>scrub faggot like Marius
>supreme power over the state
Historical literacy in the time period should be required before posting in a thread.

Sulla - Julius - Octavian

Very much all three.

Julius came up with the idea but was prevented from implementing it by his death; Augustus fulfilled the idea. Julius made the cake and baked it, Augustus ate it. with great finesse.

The Roman Empire wasn't really "founded" the old governmental institution was simply overruled by a new one
What I'm trying to say is that the Roman Empire is the Republic just with a new inner working

Brutus

No historian thinks that Caesar founded the Roman Empire. Augustus founded the Principate and ergo, the Roman Empire. Caesar just happened to assume dictatorial powers.

Augustus. He's the one that formulated the office of Princeps and held power long enough to see the position solidified.

Caesar took control and instituted some necessary reforms, but when he died Rome plunged back into the civil wars he and his predecessors were fighting.

Not a king, merely a first citizen.

;^)

>Caesar
>Octavius
The Roman Empire predate both of them. From the point of the prelude of the First Punic War, Rome had transformed itself into an empire with imperial ambition for wealth, resources, slaves, and power.

>Marius
>scrub faggot
Fuck you.

There is no such thing as the Roman Empire. Rome was a republic until its fall.

Well having a Rex in name was anathema to all Romans, given their history with them.

REEEEE FUCKING SENATORS
FUCKING VESTIGIAL SHITS REEE

I see paper rolls in the picture, Did Roman have papers back then or what ?

Sulla called, he wanted to know what the weather in Carthage is like

>let me ignore the part where Marius took power in Rome after ending his exile with his son
>let me ignore the part where Marius totally revolutionized and modernized the Roman Army that would enable it to be one of the greatest superpowers in world history for the next five centuries
>muh Sulla

Romulus :^)
