They're not disgusting in the sense that they're drenched in biological fluids and/or tissue, but they're fucked up to the extent that they are not aesthetically pleasing anymore in the traditional way. The shoestrings have literally been broken but they're still there and tied, but that's replaceable. I tried cleaning them with acetone (I asked my dad how to clean them, big mistake) so the leather has kind of peeled of leaving grey areas... Oh and one shoe is completely open on the side like a gutted fish, my feet are a donald-duck...

and the black stuff on the tabs is bicycle oil, the reason i used acetone in the first place. didnt even succeed in removing it! it doesnt come off and stain anything else, it's put on the shoe so don't worry
