it seems like some people never figure it out and those who do have a lot of practice
my sister is a seagull, and she learned how to sew by doing it. she's 10 years in right now and is quite good...took a lot of work though

No it's not hard to learn
Just learn how to thread, change the needle etc.
Press the setting you want (find out which by googling or look at the seems of your clothes)
Run the fabric through the machine

Its not hard. I learned how to take in my jeans back when I thirfted and dressed like a punk. I started by using my hands then I proceeded to use the machine once my grandma saw I wasn't fucking around anymore. Got to the point where I was able to sow zippers on the inside of my pants to allow my foot in for maximum tightness lol.

Thanks doods, gonna
gonna ask my mom if she has an extra machine lying around to start learning

Yes. It isn't hard to sew, but it is hard to sew well. I've been at it for a year and can make pretty clean simple stuff like shirts and tote bags. Its best if you know someone who already has some skills to show you the basics since there is a lot of terminology that can be confusing at first

>my sister is a seagull
What did he mean by this?

people from /cgl/ call themselves seagulls

sewing is not hard, pattern-making is

Some seams are pretty hard to do (like a flat-felled inseam for jeans) especially without the correct foot (which will happen all the time cause there are like a million) but most of the time and effort is spent on measuring correctly. My machine is way simpler than OP's pic. It does straight line, reverses direction and zigzags with variable width and/or stitch distance. The only extra thing I'd use from that list of 60 features is the buttonhole (29-35) which you can do with zigzag and some patience.

>asking if something is difficult before making any effort or attempt in doing said activity

wew lad

No harm in getting a little insight before trying

i know this is kind of strange but would she know how to turn a sherpa blanket into a hoodie?

any good material on basic alterations / clothes making etc etc?
really interested in this sewing shit

It's not at all hard to learn. And like everyone else said, it's hard to get good.
I started sewing and tailoring clothes recently. It's pretty easy to fuck up but with sewing you can usually start over. I highly suggest watching youtube tutorials about sewing and pattern making.

This is the channel that got me into sewing and alterations.
idk if you're doing men's or women's clothes but I think her videos will be valuable either way.

/out/ would know better about that

mens

and thank you, but i am looking for something a bit more professional

doubt it
but this might help

Dude all you do is scatter seed lol farmers do it all the time and they're not even educated

I'd start by getting something you don't wear because you don't like the fit then looking up how to alter that
