Old People Thread

Getting older, almost 27. How do I avoid looking like pic related when I hit 30? He must be wearing $5000 of shit and looks like a fucking joke. What brands should I be looking at to be subtle yet fashionable? I prefer quality and not fast fashion.

you look like Hillary clinton

That's not me. That's what I want to avoid looking like...

Damn lookin like Chairman Mao

Just dress simple in high quality well fitting basics and pick out cool shoes and jackets

Any brands I should be looking at? I am liking Lemaire at the moment and Margiela. They look nice without being too weird or tryhard.

full lemaire

Yea that's what I was thinking. Some of the new Uniqlo U looks are not bad either to mix in with mainline Lemaire to reduce the cost of building a whole wardrobe with it.

meh I own a lot of lemaire and once you've handled it, the uniqlo U stuff is kinda disappointing, I did like the cashmere blend turtleneck they had, but it still pales in comparison to the mainline

you're only 27 there's no need for you to start dressing like ffs

it's not an exaggeration when ppl say 30 is the new 20

I can imagine. I don't have any yet but thinking to just do a wardrobe cleanse and start from the ground up. Mainline outer and 1 or 2 pants, Uniqlo shirts and 1 or 2 beater pants. Shoes I am not sure yet.

Well this dude looks around 30 and I think he looks just awful:
I know he is wearing Harden or some other expensive artisinal brands but it really just looks bad to me and sticks out like a real try hard.
While this:
Looks nice to me and its details are subtle.
I don't want to be the guy walking around in his 30s looking like he tried too hard and isn't pulling anything off. I have no delusions that I am a model or anything and I am getting older so while my waist line increases my hairline will inevitably retreat. Have to be honest with ourselves as we age otherwise we look like the OP pic.

It doesn't just have to be lemaire tho, I got a great sacai coat for like 300 on grailed that would normally retail for a grand at least
brands like marni, jil sander, yohji, CDG, stephan schneider, prada, etc all make stuff that would go well with it, yohji, cdg, schneider and Prada in particular you can find a lot of good 2nd hand stuff

I just worry because my style and taste level are not as good as some of the guys who have been into fashion for a few years. I am worried if I start mixing and matching I end up like a confused mess like OP pic. Keeping it all one brand/style might be safer for people like me. I don't want to be into "fashion" long term.

clothes are something you are going to wear your whole life, theres no reason why you cant wear well made, nicely designed clothes your whole life
theres a big difference between hype teenager shit like vetements and the brands that will always do good, refined, mature clothing
just keep looking at inspo from designers you like, reading about stuff etc and it should come naturally to you if you have an eye for this kind of stuff
also if you look hard enough you can find some good deals on this stuff as well, even from several seasons ago

how would you fix this outfit? I like the jacket a lot. Wearing headphones for a fit pic seems a bit tryhard and it's not helping but to me the problem isn't so much the clothes but how he's wearing them.
I don't think I'd use those jeans with that jacket. maybe some nice dark gray ones. Those look navy and don't go well with a dark gray jacket.
I also think this fit would look better with some sneakers or at least not brown derbies.
I also don't like the way he cuffed the jacket or jeans

I see what you mean but the dude in the OP pic seems like he has been into fashion for years and his pieces are all refined, mature clothing from top of the line brands. But look at the end result.
Yea I am going to try second hand for Lemaire, I just hope the condition is ok. I don't know if I can trust Grailed sellers.

Fuuuck that shirt is amazing

How is 27 "old"? Are you a drug addict?

I think OP meant "grown up" instead of old. It is honestly old in comparison to the 15-17 year olds that inhabit this board.

Maybe if you are a NEET with no social life or prospects you might not feel much different between the ages of 17 and 27, but for the rest of us a lot changes during that time.

its silk which is what gives it that texture
they have a similar one for sale now, very expensive tho

he's just shit at styling and the pants don't fit

I think artisanal and avant-garde menswear tends to be a good look for men and most of the pieces age quite well because they rely on subtlety rather than garishness
it can get pretty expensive, but it's unique and usually really well made

I wear stuff like Ann Demeulemeester, Carpe Diem, The Viridi-Anne, Individual Sentiments, and Sruli Recht

It's more important as you get older to pay attention to the fit of each piece and how you put together the whole outfit because you're expected to know how to dress yourself well as an adult and you can't get away with looking sloppy like you can as an irreverent youth

OP pic is bad for these reasons
- the jacket and jeans don't go together texture or style-wise
- jacket cuffing is not bold enough and should either show more lining or be uncuffed
- the jeans are too long and the cuff is lazy, awkward, and ugly
- wtf big headphones for daily wear ever, let alone in a photo where you could have just taken them off first

dude could rock the coat in an old timey inspired fit with harnden pieces and larger cuts or he could go the opposite route and slim down the pants to something like Label Under Construction woven pants or Sruli Recht Felling trousers

shoes are cool but get a little dwarfed by the bagginess of the jeans break
I feel like cropped pants would work well here to offset the shoes

nice critique. glad to see some people with taste still browse Veeky Forums

thanks
I mostly just browse a bit to kill time before bed
there's really not not much worth reading on this board anymore but I'll chime in on the few threads that interest me

Feel sorry for your and shitty genetics then.

Dis

p. sure he meant settling down, getting a career, moving out from home...u fucking dumb ass lel
u dont wanna dress the same when ur 17 as 27 after that kind of transition

More like chairman lmao

dude.
calm down.

looking tryhard isn't age specific.

I'm 27 and so is my social circle.
not one of us is wearing shirts and slacks and I don't think anybody ever will.

if this is how you want to look (no judgment here) then go for it. but don't feel restricted by your age.
as you said allready don't deny it , work with what you have and make resonable decision with wich you are comfortable.

again if that means slacks and shirts, have fun.
if you'd rather wear a leotard and some geobaskets and you don't think there's anything wrong with it, go for it.

>wear Our Legacy and Undercover
I'm afraid of getting old, I like my darker style (don't wear edgy, I dig UC's and OL's darker aesthetic)

This post makes me think you are 16

Actually I'm 20. What's so bad about those brands?

You sound like a 13 year old asshole, OP. Piss off.

I feel like the quality of the board always slighty goes up during F/W

Is it so bad to dress how you feel? who cares what age you are just be happy with yourself , don't let others bring you down that's just my opinion.

the dude in op's pic has barely got down the basics, just look at how his fucking pants fit. you don't have to worry mang

Some brands can look totally different season to season. I got several pieces from Sacai FW15 (suit set and coat) which are really cool but they look/feel nothing like the recent releases (the ones with the big ass LIIFE graphic). I get the feeling she's moving towards more street stuff overall compared to previous seasons.

Also on the same boat, same age group etc but i still have a stack of hyped sneakers from when i got interested with sneaker cuture. Kinda wish I had one concise theme with my wardrobe sometimes

I get it, grandpa. You're salty because you have a middle age crisis and can't figure out how to dress nicely with only 27.

i ran this through google translate but still can't make it out. what are you trying to say you esl bitch?

>27
>thinks he's old

lol you're barely out of diapers kiddo

how old are u gramps

If you can't make out what said you should just kys

samefaggot
>and can't figure out how to dress nicely with only 27.
lol esl

yep

I think I'd actually lol if I saw someone wearing this shit in real life.

>how do i avoid looking like something I don't want to look like

I don't know fag, maybe look in the mirror before you leave the house?

>27
>old
>for a man
Take care of your skin and work out.

Nothing special happens at 30. You can dress the same way you always have.

Probably more like $2000, that jacket is not Harden. But yeah, he looks shit.

post sruli fits

>he looks shit.

you don't like the cut of his jeans or something?

he looks passable to me. if i saw him on the street i wouldn't look twice

Acne

>he takes fit pics with headphones on

all generic "scandinavian minimalist" internet streetwear. pretty stale and tired at this point. you'd probably blend right in with the waywt here (that's not a good thing).

I want to like Paul Harnden but I think I have literally never seen it look good on a real human.

The problem with that outfit is that it's desperate to signal "I wear artisanal fashion". Was there any need to autistically roll the cuffs? No, but how would other SZ posters know you were wearing a kosher brand?

The older you get, the more I think that Rick Owens quote about "not trying to talk with your clothes" applies.

Yeah, ESL and all that shit. Still, you're a fat fuck and should lose some weight. Otherwise keep convincing yourself that you have to wear diapers as pants with 27 years old.

Having fun being poor?

I'm 30 and I look my best ever, people compliment me on my fits etc.

He would look at least 2x better if the jeans were better fitting

This

Take a look at Jared Leto

just so you know, I appreciated this.

Well I like it, I don't care if autists on niggerian pharamcy forum dress in similar way.

dead,

I wouldn't call Undercover streetwear in what most understand under it. Jun's style, philosophy and inspirations (krautrock, punk etc.) are closer to Raf than Bape or Suprememe.

1. cuff jeans or shirt, not both (in this case i'd lose whatever roll is happening with the shirt sleeves)
2. a slimmer boot or shoe in a lighter shade of brown or black, or go with white sneaker.
optional: ditch navy jeans for black, or charcoal trousers. or camel/tan, in which case the boot color is fine, but still too chunky.

Here you go

Start by getting your shit tailored. One arm of yours is slightly longer than the other, so is one leg. Getting your shit-whatever you like-professionally tailored makes you look more symmetrical, and thus right and more attractive.

Wear belts. Your pants have belt loops for a reason. Use them. You will look 10x better and more put together.

Go with classic, not trendy. Trendy makes you look like a tryhard, especially when shit changes without you knowing. Classic never changes that much, because people always look great in it. The big names everybody knows-Lauren, Hilfiger, Boss, etc-are big because they have embraced the classic styles.
Never wear brown anything anymore. Seriously. Brown makes you look like a fucking hick.

jesus and still on Veeky Forums?
remember kids, you are here forever
