you're not supposed to eat your clothes m8

posting what I can find... It's limited

got any good adidas models? I would love an indoor gazelle

...

are there any canvas/synthetic skate shoes out there that aren't made by billion dollar companies that employ sweatshop workers? canvas shoes get torn to shit pretty quickly so i wouldn't want to spend too much on them either. i'm just trying to buy second hand as much as i can at the moment.
it's important to recognize that veganism isn't in itself a means to an end. human suffering is a problem too.

...

le "I'm going to solve human suffering by refusing to buy products made by poor humans so that they lose their jobs and die" meme XD

i've certainly thought about that perspective too but i don't know, both options are shitty. i would be happy to buy from those brands if they paid their workers a half decent wage but it all just goes in their pockets, so i think i'd be doing more harm than good.

Not necessarily vegan, but United by Blue seems "environmentally ethical"

I can't wait until they restock. I started taking my pair to work and I regret it every day.

vegan

ˈviːɡ(ə)n/

noun

a person who does not eat or use animal products.

Here's your (You)

more like the "im morally superior to you and have the privilege of being a bourgeois ascetic because i grew up in middle class american suburbia" general

I suggest exploring vegankicks.com

>not buying clothes because worried about animal death

>buys clothes from large pcv factories

>factories directly causing global warming and deforestation which caused/causes animal death

>uses computer made in a large factory

Don't even tell me you use Apple products too, because if so your product was made in a building that had to have nets installed to stop people from jumping out of it so much.

Just don't buy leather if your into this whole movement, and don't buy fake leather either, most study's say that faux leather does more harm than real leather. Why do vegans always say "fuck animal products" and two days later they are eating fake meat and fake tacos and wearing fake leather.

And for the record if your looking for ethical stuff go the hemp route, plenty of edgy company's that charge 100usd for a hemp shirt out there

Go read the thread on CT about this, this will not go well on Veeky Forums. Can't even have a good thread about non-sweatshop garments without it erupting into a pseudo-intellectual battle between keyboard warriors

le "haha if you don't support slavery it's your fault if the slaves are left to die joke on you" meme xd

Uh... You do realize that leather is expensive and mostly seen as a "luxury" item? Same for "italian" wool, cashmere, silk, etc. Cheap clothes are mostly made with synthetic fabrics because of that.

Rick Owens has alot of vegan basics, i.e vegan hi-tops and so on and so on.

whats your point
did you reply to the right post

goodguys.bigcartel.com have some sick shoes.

That avoiding animal product has nothing to do with any privilege and that wearing animal products is bourgeois as fuck

why arent people in africa vegan then
are you saying that being vegan isnt a product of having the privilege to choose to be vegan and the ability to survive without non-vegan products
are you literally retarded

VEGAN RAMONES

do you have experience with these? they look good but im worried about the quality obv bc *vegan leather* (it's like $150 inc ship for US orders)

also I like the idea of this thread in theory but this is not the right space for it

going to trigger carni's

People in Africa barely eat meat or wear animal products, wtf are you talking about? Some people in India/Asia have been vegan/vegetarian for generations.
Living as a vegan is actually cheaper so idk what point you're trying to make, especially with the survival thing. Are you in a survival situation?

No, sozz. They seem to have good reviews & a good reputation, that's all I know. Check for a reseller in the USA maybe?

Wow, people on here get really hurt when the idea of veganism comes up, and immediately get on the defensive.

Why does it bother you if someone else doesn't want to use animal products? Why the justify it to themselves isn't an issue at all.

And those ITT that have a problem with people trying to cut down on unethical consumption because there are other forms of suffering is just such a fucked up worldview.

i agree with what you said but it's not worth the energy to convince anonymous people on the internet to agree with your political beliefs

because the very idea is hypocritical, its in human nature to call out bullshit when they spot it

...

You do realize it's sweatshop labor that has helped lift countries out of poverty right? It's like how early America was pretty shit in that manufacturing aspect and is now not doing it

Just like Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. China got into it later because they were still communist when HK and other were deep in and they're already becoming a much more wealthy country, the same with Vietnam, I had a buddy visit there last year

It does ruin what could be a productive thread, to have to fight with morons.

betterthread.com/

I haven't explored this site much but it did lead me to Vaute Couture:

betterthread.com/

In particular, their $$$ vegan coats. All made in Chicago or NYC.

Then there's Vegetarian Shoes who make their Airseal line of Doc Martens/Solovair-type boots (in fact they use Solovair soles):

vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/airseal_footwear/10021_0c.html

Also made in the same Northampton factory where Solovair makes their boots, and where Dr. Martens used to be made before outsourcing.

Last one is a boot I bought a long time ago that I still love called the Unswoosher:

You'll have to ignore Adbusters' really uncool anarchist rhetoric. I don't know why anarchists have to be so hokey about everything, but that is still a badass shoe.

>people coming into this thread literally just to make fun of vegans
don't you have anythingn better to do, faggots?

April77 is 100% vegan but unfortunately also 100% crap

>pleather jacket
why would anyone wear this?

Because they like the look, but are too busy pretending to feel morally superior about sobbing about cows getting abused while they ignore the abuses suffered by the migrant workers that pick their California-grown grapes and almonds.

Or the fact that their quinoa addiction is causing human rights abuses on farms in Bolivia.

But DAH COWZ HAVE FEEFEES

I could make better looking shoes with only old newspapers and spit

whats wrong with leather and others?

why does someone buying vegan things mean they are ignoring another important social issue? Are the two mutually exclusive? I'd bet that most vegans are actually more considerate consumers generally and are thus less likely than the general population to "ignore the abuses suffered by the migrant workers that pick their California-grown grapes" as you so eloquently put it.

>why does someone buying vegan things mean they are ignoring another important social issue?

99.99999999999999999999999999999999% of vegans don't care about anything other than signaling their own virtues.

>Are the two mutually exclusive?

Yes.

You can't (pretend to) care about abuse in one sector of agribusiness that you don't like and ignore abuses in the sector you do.

Especially when the abuses you ignore ACTUALLY affect your own species, not quadrupedal retards (That's not hyperbole. domesticated bovines are legit retards.)

>I'd bet that most vegans are actually more considerate consumers

You'd be wrong.

e.g. The fact that quinoa production in Bolivia (one of the few regions able to grow it.) is rampant with worker abuse.

Yet every vegan HAS to have their shitty SEW INSTAGRAMMABLE quinoa bowl.

>why arent people in africa vegan then
but they are, well they eat far less meat than wealthier populations anyway. not in terms of the ideology necessarily, but because grains and vegetables are often all they can afford. the same goes for poor families in asian countries.
are you saying staples such as rice, corn, wheat and potatoes are foods only available to the wealthy? or that you can't live off a vegan diet without expensive foods like mock meats/dairy, off-season vegetables, etc?

i'm pissing into the wind trying to level with you but whatever, your argument is paper thin

you sound like someone worth having a discussion with and not emotionally compromised at all

>every vegan
maybe because ur specifically judging vegans based on their social media representation (a bunch of delusional fuckheads)

wills belts at least are of the shittiest fucking quality

Story mfg is the best vegan label out there
storymfg.com/

Not emotionally compromised at all.

If you want emotionally compromised, you can find the campus-visiting PETA supporter that threatened to sue me because I rebutted her vegan bs with actual science.

That inferiority complex tho

their jeans are horrible though

>Vegan
>Has an obligate carnivorous apex predator that often kills for sport on his head

It seems to me that as far as clothing goes, one has to make a compromise between environmental and animal welfare concerns. A well-constructed wool sweater that is a staple of your wardrobe is going to be more environmentally friendly than numerous non-biodegradable synthetic pieces of lesser quality, but of course there is animal exploitation involved. I think many misguided vegans (and some of the non-vegans trying to bait in this thread) believe that veganism is a be-all-end-all solution when in reality there is no upper ceiling to the reduction of human and non-human suffering. If you live in a petroleum-based economy, it is impossible to not exist as an exploiter in some way, but you can still attempt to pick your battles in a way that acts most efficiently for the planet. Sorry if that was scattershot and hard to understand, I'm tired.

How do the vegans in this thread feel about purchasing second-hand clothes made from wool or leather?

That's still assuming vegans hate everyone/thing that eats meat.

hey, doesn't the beef industry waste resources and contribute enormously to climate change? just thinkin out loud here.

>How do the vegans in this thread feel about purchasing second-hand clothes made from wool or leather?

That's ok for me. I also like that Patagonia and others are using recycled wool or fair trade wool.

And yes, it's hard to find affordable stylish clothing that is also cruelty free, eco-friendly and fair trade. But I try. And nowadays ethicality is more important thing for me than looks or price, so I'm doing ok.

wear are the faux leather sneakers goddammit. all the cool sneaks have leather or suede

gonna check these out when i go to mooshoes. think they have some in stock

because Veeky Forums really is just as conformist as any other community

Most running shoes should be okay, as there's almost no leather used. I bought Palladium boots recently although I'd also like to find a winter boot.

Seeing as I only want them to be a bit waterproof and I don't need them to be extra warm, I'll probably buy some wax and use it on them to waterproof them and have buy a second pair for spring/summer.

Morissey kills people for fun so it's ok

>tfw pic related is $300

...

I have these. Comfy as fuck.

Wow guys, you should all listen to that expert in veganism. His facts seems legit, I'm sure he met at least 1 vegan.

So much assumption. I know in my case I try to buy as ethically and environmentally friendly as possible, as well as keeping it vegan.
Ultimately you sometimes have to pick and choose where you try to save the world and where you compromise and be part of society (mobile phone, laptop), despite factories being generally bad. Just because you can do everything doesn't mean you should do nothing. The common argument I hear is "you'll still kill bugs accidentally by stepping on them so you may as well give up and just eat meat everyday for every meal."

It doesn't work like that.

Most people who eat quinoa are omnivores. Most foods with quinoa in them aren't even vegan. What are you talking about?

Thank you lads

Native shoes.

I just ordered a t-shirt, a sweatshirt and a flannel from Rapanui. They are not fully vegan company but otherwise ethical. Check them out.

I pity you dude, putting people down who are just trying to do what they think is a nice thing, and doesn't harm anyone regardless

this is true. markets bring people out of poverty

just being vegan is leaps and bounds better than just choosing not to buy products that you think are causing some sort of climate warming or not "environmentally friendly"

i love sweatshop garments as long as they're vegan. why do you have to be so narrow minded?

being vegan means limiting suffering to animals as much as is reasonably possible. not even vegans are going to complain to starving africans about eating an animal. people in africa aren't vegan because they don't have much of a choice but you and i do have a choice.

>doesn't harm anyone regardless

You mean how PETA has stolen people's pets under false accusations of "animal abuse" and murdered those pets?

Or the Earth First! pipe bomb that, thankfully, detonated in their own car and only maimed the vegantards transporting it

Or how about the Earth Liberation Front torching several houses in a "green subdivision" because it didn't meet their arbitrary standards for how "green" something has to be.

with what science? being vegan only means to limit wherever reasonably possible, animal cruelty. what is your argument against people trying to do that?

He's saying personal veganism doesn't hurt anyone, you fucking git.

no, the numbers that i've read tell me that the implications of being a vegan by far outweigh any possible other lifestyle choices that would try to negate that. also i understand economics and i know that markets help bring people out of poverty. poverty today means having more than you probably think assuming we are talking about a country that is considered to be somewhat free. in other words the more free the individual is in that country and the freer the market, the better the living standards of the impoverished of that country. the reason i mention this is because you brought up reducing human suffering

yeah by far the most. animal agriculture contributes far more than pollution from all transportation on the planet earth

She was spouting off vegan pseudoscience about how shearing lambs is bad for them (It isn't)

PETA members don't like having their bullshit taken down

(Or have the fact that they kill more household pets annually than the ASPCA does brought up.)

The lady that formed PETA's personal brand of veganism involved killing household pets at the veterinarians office she worked at because she believed that pet "ownership" is "de facto animal abuse".

Lol.

>buy as ethically and environmentally friendly as possible

lmao why

8 billion people out there the damage has already been done

the poster ur responding to is right

im vegetarian and i dont fuck wit big ag, etc etc but veganism is one bad joke

i was thinking of copping their high waisted womens jeans. what's wrong with them?

whats wrong with chosing to reduce animal suffering as far as is reasonable? don't be silly, there is nothing wrong with being vegan

>not buying products of an already dead animal is reducing its suffering

boy it must be nice being 16 and educated by tumblr

>Why do vegans always say "fuck animal products" and two days later they are eating fake meat and fake tacos
Because fake meat and fake tacos aren't animal products.

>everyone who doesn't eat meat is PETA
Guess all right wingers are nazis too right?

>not understanding the basic principles of supply and demand

voting with ur wallet is one thing being a naive retard is another

The majority of vegans get their start either gobbling up PETA propaganda like a pornstar gobbles cock, or by watching a sole documentary on Netflix and being too stupid to do any fact checking (e.g.. thinking vegangaia.blogjournalr is an unbiased source.)

You not buying leather isn't going to do shit to the supply and demand chain.

shearing lambs isnt bad for them but many animal husbandry practices are undeniably painful for the animal e.g. tail docking, dehorning etc.
the nutritional pseudoscience is annoying but overall reducing factory farming of animals cannot be a bad thing

one person sure but cultural shifts can happen

they are dead because you paid for them to be dead, they are relying on you to support them.

meat tastes better than vegan food. i am a vegan and prefer the taste of meat. we also like leather but we have the discipline to not participate in animal suffering.

Hey if anyone wants a surefire way to reduce suffering, animal resource consumption and ease environmental impact it's simple. Don't have children.

That's the most direct way to "solve" these problems. It's not capitalism that's the root of everything that's wrong, nor is it animal usage nor human nature per se. Existence is inherently a non stop stream of suffering. No, I'm not Buddhist.

i'm a vegan and i first got interest from the nutrition argument, next the moral argument won me over, the environmental stuff is only a plus for me
