It's not about Anne Frank. It's about a whole lot of things. It was inspired by her diary, and even includes some possible vague references to her, but it's a mistake to go into each of these songs with the expectation of it making more logical sense if it's about Anne Frank.

And to add to this, I wish the diary was better taught in schools (I'm in the USA so mileage may vary from state to state) because it really doesn't take that much effort to also teach that

-the published diary is not a straightforward personal diary, it is comprised of multiple notebooks, some of which Anne rewrote herself with the intent of publication, some of which were the 'original' diaries because they were caught before she could rewrite them.

-some editions are censored for "sexual" content, as well as content where Anne talked negatively about people in the Annex or about the Nazis

i would say being forced into a tiny cramped space with that many people, no open windows, one 'bathroom,' not allowed to talk, walk around, or make any noise for the better party of the day, and being in constant terror of being discovered would be incredibly stressful as fuck. They weren't just hanging out in an attic. There's no need to act like they were living high and mighty.

-The (partial) diary she was able to partially rewrite and edit herself before they were captured
-The diary as edited, censored and then published by Otto Frank
