i have mild hatred towards latex because of its ancient font management, yes i heard luatex have this solved or something, but i didn't get the chance to look on it. when using latex (unfortunaly quite often) i use librebaskerville, or sometimes alegreya package, default cm for math. With texlive there comes quite a lot of fonts (tug.dk/FontCatalogue/seriffonts.html), but they are mostly nothing special.
