It probably has to do with the possibility of them not having a likeable-by-others personality, they replace the empy space with nice looks as those are attention-grabbing and could trigger relationships, or maybe they want to passively feel good with themselves as "having a good personality" is often dependant of the rest, not like looks and personality are mutually exclusive anyways...

It is better to look younger. Baby-face doesn't actually really mean that you look really young, it just means that you lack bones or bf% to look angular and masculine, thus the soft potato face. If you really are handsome, you should be happy that you do look younger instead of looking older, which is a death sentence in terms of aesthetics unless you have good aging genetics.
