what exactly defines a term as broad as post-punk according to you? because post-punk is your gay ass the Jesus and Mary chain as well as Talking Heads or Devo

JAMC are noise pop and Talking Heads and Devo are new wave

idgaf what jamc are but Veeky Forumsggots always post them in post-punk threads.
also saying Talking Heads and Devo aren't post-punk because they're new wave is like saying Throbbing Gristle isn't post-punk because it's industrial

How do post punk artists dress quite formal but still have a punk aesthetic

...

I agree with this user; the term is so broad as to be meaningless.

Hair

Yup

It's when punk thawed out to become more interesting while retaining its ethic. It's literally just what happened when punk musicians admitted they still listened to prog rock.

I think there are a lot of bands that fit the post-punk aesthetic without being necessarily all that post-punk musically, JAMC being a decent example.

If you wanna understand post-punk, just listen to Never Mind the Bollocks, back to back with Public Image's debut, and take note of what's the same, and what's changed. Generally at least the majority of those characteristics apply across the board to all post-punk

>It's literally just what happened when punk musicians admitted they still listened to prog rock
or disco, funk, electronic music, world music, etc

ik ymo isnt post punk but i love them and devo is effay as fuck

This guy really fits the modern post punk look, though maybe with a darker jacket or something with earth tones it'd look even better.

Great one I prefer this though

Just got into Joy Division, but the amount of "OMG he killed himself, what a beautiful soul" girls are killing me. It's like with Kurt except it feels like they're moving on to him.

new wave ⊂ post-punk

Early cyber nazi

What's the diference? Really?

True, but the """fan base""" luckily doesn't influence the music.
I have heard hundreds of post punk albums and Closer is still my favourite.

do you know what the '⊂' sign means?

no

The music is more poppy and danceable, closer to disco. The aesthetic is different too. Lots of colour instead of black and grey.

Interesting, I've been curious about the relation between Vogue and music lately. Do you know any good book, pdf, site, article etc on this subject?

new wave is poppier, post-punk is broader and more experimental
new wave is pretty much a subgenre of post-punk that achieved bigger mainstream success than the other subgenres

I know most about it from my parents, who were in the new wave scene. My mom however says everything was just called new wave back then. Siouxsie and the Banshees, Talking Heads and Front 242 are all new wave according to her.

I don't know specific reading suggestions but there's written a lot about the relationship between fashion and music. I generally start at a Wikipedia (I know) article about a genre and check out the references.

It's also interesting to read about David Bowie and his influences, both fashion wise and musically.

Can you try to post something intelligent once in a while?

seriously, that guy is probably the most retarded tripfag on this board right now and that's saying a lot
