Why do you want to live in San Francisco?
Highly desirable regions command premiums.
Nothing is 'allowed'. Its economics and it's called a bubble. Foreigners parking cash in tangible assets, it won't last much longer. Leave while you can
Yea, but why is it so highly desirable?
I'm in London and want to kill myself every day, the only positive is having "London" on facebook.
>Its economics
Manipulated, rigged bullshit is more like it
Just build a tiny house.
Yes, preach it brother. :^)
lol renter cuck pay that rent each month
let the hate flow through you
gooooooood
Your day will come parasitic NEET.
Renters are literal parasites
>lol were totally giving 3 grand in services every month
I aint even a berniefag
Hoestly if you want money live in those homeless sewers
Because SF is an awesome place to live with shit tons of things to do.
Quit being a poor cuck.
Your absolutely right, but the laws of economics still apply. The supply is limited but demand is infinite due to baseless money printing
>live in Italy
>studying chemistry for free
>live in a 4 room apartments, my rent is 80€/week
>for that sum I literally get to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world (Florence)
Just leave the US mate, it's just not worth it. I know you guys are scared as fuck cause of immigrants but it's not a real problem and you wont ever have to deal with it. Western Europe is the answer to all of your problems.
I'm from the UK, could I have a similar setup in your city? Sounds tempting.
With 400€ week you may have to resort to a 2 rooms apartment if you really want to live in the historic centre.
I live in the suburbs, I usually get everywhere in less than 15 Minutes.
Also simce you're coming from the UK prepare to see how fucking expensive everything in your country is.

Tech companies hire people, they have to live there, and are willing to pay the premium. Renters, who realized this raised price to meet demand. Well, sorta.
If you don't make enough to live in NY or San Francisco, consider going elsewhere.
you think that's bad?
check out Hong Kong... my 650sqft apartment costs $3kUSD to rent lol
Real Estate is pure evil, that's why.
What a sad scary place the world must be to you everyday you wake up
>why did the sun rises?
>because jew patriarchy wah everything
>save me Obama save me #occupy save me Bernie Sanders wah injustice I'm a victim
and they whisper, "no"
Just moved from the Bay Area, glad I'm out. Sold all of my real estate and can retire because of it, thanks California!
But what is the average income there?
>what is gentrification?
come on down to socal user. OC to be more exact. If you could afford 1500 a month you could have a pretty nice apartment and 1700 could get you a luxury apartment with all the amenities pool on roof/washer and dryer inside apartment etc.
>Tech companies hire programmers at 6 figure salaries.
>Renters decide to raise prices due to higher demand, and income average goes higher
>rent becomes fucking impossible for everyone else who isn't making as much as a programmer
Chynah are ripping us off on rent folks
Bullshit.
If there were enough 6 figure salaries to justify the rent hike, then the average income would be much higher.
niggawhat
How are the units getting filled when the average rent clearly shows that they aren't enough 6 figure earners?
...
Here's how it goes:
X amount of people bought houses when they were affordable. Only 10% of X will sell in any given year, and the people they sell to are either old-timers who had a house, techies, or rich Chinese investors. So they can afford insane pricing.
Y amount of people have affordable housing or some sort of rent control so prices can't increase more than Z%. Accounted for.
The rest of the people who are too poor to cover rent either split it with 2-3 people to a room, or they move to Oakland.
This forces poor people out, you have multiple incomes paying for 1br's, etc.
The problem is the housing supply is so limited in SF, that you're only getting a decent place if you have money or go 2-3 to a room.
ALSO, a ton of tech workers work in Silicon Valley but live in SF because they're pieces of shit who think SF is "so trendy lol". And... SV has a limited housing supply because a ton of idiots decided to build it out like low-density exurbs instead of LA-style high density burbs.
Remember, average SF income is for people that work in the city and not live in the city. You need to consider average/median income for the whole Bay.
Because tech companies hire people and make them live in the Bay area, where space is quite limited. Due to higher demand and higher average income, rent goes higher.
Are you retarded?
Basically this.
Because you'll have multiple earners living in the same apartment. It's not uncommon for someholds to pay half their income in rent if they don't make much money. Having 3 or 4 people working and suddenly the rent is manageable.
In either case, san fransico has terrible zoning laws that don't allow for denser development. You can't build anything new there so you are stuck with what's been built
Not everyone in the area is a tech worker. What fucking part of the concept of an "average' don't you fucking understand?
No fucking shit.
But when you have a shit ton of 6-figure earners, AVERAGE (fucking read AVERAGE) income goes higher you fucking mongoloid.
Out of all the places you could live why would you choose san francisco?
Average income for SF is $90,000 and for SV it's $116,000.
There are 1.5 million tech jobs in SV. There are 800,000 people that live in SF. The people who commute from SF to the valley for the work could easily eat up whatever (non-existent) slack is in SF's housing supply.
At 3% vacancy rate with $4,000/month rents on a 1br, hm... wonder why? Do you think... some of the millions of tech workers are taking vacant units as they come, perhaps bidding up prices?
Because people are stupid enough to pay it. Find some place else near a train line that'll dump you in San Fran.
Is SV Silicon Valley or...?

Just live in San Bruno, rent is half that and you are (at most) 10 minutes driving from SSF.

underrated
>why are people allowed to charge what people are willing to pay
Silicon Valley, yes. Basically the whole area between San Jose and SF.
Meant to reply to you, oops. Yes SV = Silicon Valley.
You an ex-pat? What do you do there? Where in HK do you live? Like it over there?
I was paying $3/sq. ft. for a 200 sq ft studio in the midwest 5 years ago. Think a city cheaper than Chicago but prime real estate.
$5/sq ft is bad, sure.. but it's not much worse than expensive parts of the US.
>Manipulated, rigged bullshit is more like it
Correct... People charge the most they can get for things...
High demand = higher prices
>> Live in Palo Alto
Cannot wait to get the fuck out of here. Whole Bay Area sucks. Nothing but Chink Chings, Poo in loos, and white faggot Bernie supporters
>Live with a partner and suddenly you save 1.5k
I'm sorry, but you're paying for space in a city. If you want that space to yourself you have to pay a premium.
I hate it when people bring up the price of two bedroom apartments being too expensive for a single person to rent at minimum wage. If you bring a second person, min wage can support the rent.
except he's right ya dumb faggot. nothing scary about it but facts are facts
only person in this thread who knows what he's talking about, niggas don't even know about caltrain
>redwood city reporting in
How is Palo Alto shitty? That's actually my dream city, and I'm in Los Angeles.
Tell me more about Palo Alto pls
>Tech companies hire people, they have to live there
Kind of an oxymoron, not very high tech, bubble detected, drives wages and outsourcing up.
What world needs is a good ole fashioned die off by plague.
ha ha zoning
I've always wondered that about SF. I lived there for a bit, found it highly highly overrated.
DINKs can afford to live anywhere. Your average NEET cannot hope to compete.
How do you study for free?
Huntington beach reporting in. Im in my first apartment with a good friend from way back on middle school.
Rent is 1850. A month 2 bed 1 bath w/ a back yard. Good loving room and kitchen with real marble counter tops.
I pay 700. Roomy and his gf(know her from elementary if you could believe that) that lives here part time pay the 1350 and utilities.
Highly recommend here. If you're a rich fag, go anywhere from newport south though. Huntington is the middleclass/party town.
Heres a pic i yook while boking down from long beach to lake elsinore on pch and the ortegas.
> Manipulated, rigged bullshit is more like it

1 bedroom apt, I should mention
>Chynah
Didn't she die along with Prince?
>live in Iowa

Must suck to be a big city faggot.
>living in Iowa
Some of us have aspirations, goals, dreams, and a desire to actually enjoy life.
Oh honey, please don't delude yourself into thinking Des Moines has all the typical big city amenities. It's as boring as Rockford, having been to both. SF's arts scene shits on all of Iowa combined. You're what, 7 hours from Chicago without traffic? Lol, pathetic.
>tfw there are still poors in the midwest who live more than 2 hours from Chicago
>Because commfornia is an awesome place to live with shit tons of things to do.
is that your whole argument?
say "He's right" and call me a name?
maybe you deserve to be poor
There are massive zoning laws that prevent high rises and they cant meet the demand. Enjoy your socialism bernie fucks

Most art fags are completely unbearable human beings.
I played that game living in Sac for a while.
I was not impressed and CA people have shit attitudes, as do most big city fags.
Its a good safe place to raise a family, finances are easily manageable, the metro area has half a million people and I don't need to get stuck in traffic for extended periods of time because our city planners aren't retards.
I'll be retired in my 50's without having to worry about losing my home or not upkeeping it and drive a new vehicle for the rest of my life.
Big city fags tell themselves they've got it great so they don't kill themselves for having it so shit.
South Dakota is the shit. 700 a month including utilities for a 2 bedroom 2 bath HOUSE.
I live in a tiny room in a basement I rent for $800 from a lady near DC. I can't afford a car so I commute to work by bike.
I can't find a place near enough work for me to be able to make it to work there that I can also afford, but I also can't afford a car so that I can live further away in cheaper areas.
I also can't quit my job and just uproot completely because the benefits are amazing and the pay is quite decent.
To be honest I'm perfectly fine here but I worry about something like her suddenly deciding to sell and me being homeless.
>live in Canada
>cheapest 1 bedroom apartment in the ghetto is $800 a month
>internet and cell phone plans are expensive as fuck
>90% of jobs are $13/h service sector
>can't afford to quit
>has to live in a basement
>can't afford a car
>"pay is quite decent"
What?
I live downtown Toronto and live off of 10 hours a week of work Friday and Saturday night.
Made just about 40 grand last fiscal. Bartender master race.
>Big city fags tell themselves they've got it great
I don't know about you, but I do have it great.
Own my home.
Big City.
Retired (not 40 yet)
Iowa does look tempting, though...
40k in toronto is not a good life
Pay is decent in that it's the best I can get in the area. Doesn't mean it's enough to move.
In liebertarian lala land, a smaller and smaller government protects more and more property owned by the wealthy few from more and more displaced, disenfranchised, and desperate people.
Because it's a famous city.
Doesn't matter if it's actually a good place to live or not, famous cities will always costs insane amounts to live in.
I believe there are zoning laws that prevent or make it difficult for a building to be constructed with more than 5 floors. This will limit the supply along with with people still coming in to work for silicon valley results in housing costs growing.
>Iowa
When we say "desirable" we don't necessarily mean "it's a nice place", because any sane person would look at London and safely conclude that it's a dirty overcrowded toilet full of nasty low grade people.
"Desirable" means "where the best paying jobs are". Service based economies inevitably nucleate to a single city because of the competition for labour. It's hard to move house everytime you want a new job, so naturally you want to be somewhere where there are the most jobs, and companies plan their physical presence around this shared desire.
The only way out of this nightmare will be if virtual reality finally decentralises the service sector.
It will take a decade or two but it could actually happen that we don't need to be in London to do the work in London.
This. Living in Bavaria and studying for free as well. My single room apartment costs 300 Euro per month but the state gives me money (Bafög) so thats no problem. Only saw refugees one time this year and that was when I had to go to the central train station. Western Europe is pretty much underrated. Tomorrow I have no course so I go to the Alps for some hiking.
>300 Euro per month but the state gives me money
That sounds great. Where you from?
Wait you can make 40k just by working Friday & Saturday nights? Do you work at a club or a fine dining place?
Germany. But you only get free state money if you are student without rich parents.
>But you only get free state money if you are student without rich parents.
So you basically get free money no matter what situation you're in. Nice.
>retarded city costs retarded amounts of money to live in
>mandated having solar panels on every building
there's an artificial housing shortage there because building permits block new construction. it would be impossible to find an apartment if they put a price ceiling in.
What are you people doing? I'm in Toronto, 70-80k a year and pay 650 per month all in for a large basement around the corner from Forest Hill.
If you get a job downtown in one of the highly visited bars in the Esplanade area, then yes. The tips alone make up for it, and they declare only
You live in LA, with so much to do, filled with good looking people and great food...
And you want to move to shitty Palo Alto?
Dafuq is wrong wit you?
