What was he thinking when he made this?

What was he thinking when he made this?

Is it a cry for help?

lmao where did u found these ?

raf x adidas

...

honestly for the 150 that these cost on sale, they're not too bad. i can think of a few fits where they'd look aight

these look like they could have been bought from goodwill for like 5 bucks senpai, who are you kidding?

people are gonna buy it anyway so why even trying

This

These were literally made only for end of season sales because retards go "holy shit 150 for raf omg"

they're based off baseball boots he used back when he didn't design shoes so he used spray painted converse in his old shows. he's made shoes based of baseball boots like the Raf by Raf Simons sneakers, the Velcros, the Holographic Paneled sneakers, and the Matrix Spirits that's why they all have the same silhouette.

educate yourselves before shitposting.

so you are pretty much buying a pair of designer knock-off converse, sounds like a great deal

Ironically they're better quality then actual converse

if you think that then you truly are an idiot.

aw1997

Don't be silly motherfucker

vans were used

aw1999

ss2000

that's not ironic
they cost more and they're by a famous designer, how could they be worse quality?
honestly most of the ones posted here are fine, but designer canvas sneakers are never worth it. canvas never lasts very long and unlike leather doesn't vary too much in quality
except the ones in OP, those are awful

as2000

agreed, but then again it wasn't mainline so there's not much to expect

meant for aw2000*

not much shoes

your contribution is quite interesting, but i fear its wasted on this board

thanks, id like to think Veeky Forums might see these dumps and go back to actual fashion discussions every once in a while

not much shoes

Thanks for educating us on these. If you don't mind me asking, I've had a question for a while now about non-mainline designer pieces.

So what's the difference between mainline and not? Rick Owens and DRKSHDW have a similar aesthetic and some of the items are the same except for the materials. At the same time, it doesn't seem like a money grab like some other brands. Are most of them just lower quality but the same designers? Are a pair of sneakers by Ann Demeulemeester objectively better than a pair by AD Ann Demeulemeester in terms of overall construction?

aw2004

People spend $600 on golden goose. Compared to that, these arent such a bad deal.

Trust me though, I'm not buying a pair

ss2005

introduction of motos and velcros

there really aren't many differences between mainline and diffusion except for saving costs and pricing them lower. sometimes diffusion lines are introduced to make a ready to wear clothes. for example I think dior does this, someone check me on that. aesthetically, its for the most part the same they are kept as the same tone as mainline or on the other side of the spectrum to test the waters out on some newew designed items. because of lower costs and pricing the quality is sometimes affected. take a look at alexander mcqueen sneakers to puma x mcqueen sneakers, you can see the quality loss on design and construction. hope this helps

aw2005

converse are basically gone at this point. really wish for a higher res of this season

Veeky Forums is dead. Raf tries to recreate aesthetics that are associated with the youth. That is the kind of shoes people were wearing when Raf was a teen in Europe. Of course there is no real youth culture nowadays because its all shitty streetwear.

If some rapper wore these you would be all over them.

pretty much. but he knew that way back when. there's a reason he stopped the "youth culture" stuff around 2006 and started to go towards menswear. but his recent collections are very well done and really starting to pick up.

Why is streetwear not part of "youth culture"?

streetwear is youth culture grandpa

streetwear is a style defined by rappers and their 'designer' friends. famous people dictate what others should wear, essentially
old youth culture worked the other way. musicians would have a dual influencer-influencee relationship with their followers, where the musicians originally came from these emerging cultures like punk or hippiedom for example, and take cues from these to have their style more or less solidified in one of those cultures. the musicians would take ideas from a culture, and the culture would take ideas from the musicians.

because "for the youth" designers are hot garbage now.

from Virgil interview:
But for someone whose focus and energy are driven by the youth and his peers, an audience member asked Abloh why his pieces are too expensive for the average millennial to afford. The designer admits that he gets this question (or critique) a lot, and from the multiple answers going through his head, he managed to strike up a fair argument: "Don't let Zara and Uniqlo educate you on the price of a garment, because that's not fashion. That's like McDonald's. Your health is tied to that — a 99-cent nugget," explains Abloh. He goes on to mention the costs that come with sustaining a high-quality brand: customs and duties with shipping product, buying luxury fabric and paying employees a healthy wage, for example. "Of course my brand is inspired by the youth," says Abloh. "I wouldn't say it's directly made for the youth. It's who I am."

what he says is it's all about price and branding and his answer is just a cop out and he knows it. he knows nothing about youth culture. this is Virgil a couple years ago.

>implying rappers were raised in a vaccuum
>implying old rocks stars/musicians didn't have stylists
>implying you're not a "le wrong generashun" faggot

Kys

who are you quoting?

except he's right, vladimir the implyer

Just because these shoes are really cool doesn't mean that the OP shoe isn't really bad. You can't make trash cool just by association, those shoes are fucking ugly, dude and you need to admit they are, because they're absolutely nothing like what raf normally designs, as they just look bland, processed, boring and dated, at that

You're kind of being a brand whore by defending raf like that.

My friend got the black ones for 70 cad

Everybody wears tshirts and hoodies. They have no youth culture, Streatwear brands printing graphics on clothes everybody wears and then charging more fore exclusivity is not the kind of culture the youth built. Its built by old men who are good at marketing and are making money off the insecurity of teens. Exploiting the need to fit in, its sad.

>those shoes are fucking ugly, dude and you need to admit they are
except they aren't bad or bad looking at all?

>they are nothing like what raf normally designs
did you read my posts or even look at the pictures?

>they just look bland, processed, boring and dated
did you take into consideration that they arent mainline and are an adidas collaboration? did you, again, read my posts?

>You're kind of being a brand whore by defending raf like that
I like some shoes, so now I'm a brand whore?

your logic is flawed, friend.

i actually like those blue and cream ones for their retro look but with how much they cost i'd rather just wear converse

how can you back that up? from my experience with converse i know they are a pretty decent shoes and last for a good while when being worn daily. just because its designer doesn't mean it actually has better materials

The yellow and blue ones are cool. Has a nice pastel tone.

These are actually super super on trend, give it a couple seasons and you'll see everyone wearing shits like this. If you think this looks bad you're just not with it

I like his Stans. Due to colorways and better quality (yes I won both normal and Raf's Stans to compare) he managed to make something differnent without changing model.
But those just look ugly imo. Rick has much better collabs and Raf's Ozweegos are also much better.

I like the purple ones tee bee cue aytch

on the converse thing...a lot of mens designers dont care about shoes, it seems. Yohji sells lots now but hes basically cashing in - his old shows had all the models in Docs Ricks shoes are knock off/clownish converse; same with Raf. There's something inherently affected and uncool about wearing shoes that cost more than a black market kidney ps augusta and m-moriaa make distressed vans/converse knockoffs for 2-3k - but i doubt anyone other than russian gangsters and arab oligarchs buy them

Those cream colored ones are actually dope.

I like the white/blue ones somewhat actually to be honest
I understand why a lot of people wouldn't though

fuuuuuck. how is this picture real. that shit actually happened FUCK

in all fairness its from 2007 or 08
