Apmex used to accept bitcoin too. They stopped because it's a completely unreliable store of value. Same thing will happen here once bitcoin does another random swan dive in value. As it does.

Not sure about how Steam is doing it, but there is many services that give you the fiat money, currently being implemented in India in physical shops, it is transparent both for the user and the shop. And again lower fees than any other alternative.
