Ask a trader anything

Dealer at volatility desk for large broker. Ask me anything.

Education? Salary? Is the stress literally killing you like they say it does? Do you like it and which career would you go for if this one wasnt an option and you could start all over again?

hows it feel to literally do no proprietary trading of your own and spill donuts on your self all day while you sit there playing the role of market maker.

also, how are those bonus cuts going?

What should I watch/buy today, April 28?

Finished undegrad of finance and economics at top uni australia could offer. Salary 60k base + bonus. 0 stress, no propriatry trading, all market making and weighting/hedging.
This is a comfy but if i had a choice i would be doing something real and helpful to people like a doctor. Financial markets are based on the lie that is speculation.

Thanks for info, stay comfy Austria.

Feels good, watch a machine print money and get paid for it.

>Financial markets are based on the lie that is speculation.
Right, this tool again.
This guy claims to be a trader, while blathering about how shitty trading is.
I know at the very least that he has a lot of time, he posts these threads constantly.

VIX or SPX mini-options?

Dax open

This guy's fucking full of shit, the only way he gets to live out his pathetic fantasy is taking advantage of the retards on biz

This is my first and only thread.

Oh, my bad.
I guess it's the other Aussie shitposter who makes six figures at a brokerage, but 'muh speculation is evil!'
>i'm so conflicted guise

I am about to start my master thesis in economics on variance swaps and variance risk premia, but it seems like there is no freely available data out there, is there any data set from CBOE or EUREX one can use for variance swaps or are they all proprietary databases (since a lot of it is OTC traded)?

I assume there is a lot of book hedging involved, can you elaborate on how you do delta and gamma hedging in practice? I interned at GS in their equity derivatives team and worked a lot with traders and wrote my bachelor thesis on risk management of derivatives, but never asked them how they actually implement their risk management in practice. Do you have a "number" of the overall portfolio/book delta which you try to balance out if exceeds certain bounds, do you calculate individual positions, or how does it work?

You interned at GS? What was your background?

>Financial markets are based on the lie that is speculation.

You're need to elaborate on this one, amigo, because right now I'm feeling the bern.

>I'm feeling the bern.
just a few more states and we've got her

1. Comrade Bernie Sanders probably won't win the nomination, and certainly won't win the presidential race.
2. "Those darned speculators!" has been repeated throughout history by every commie and socialist politician looking for a scapegoat, ever. Normally as a result of said politician's fuck-ups.
3. Shame of you for literally supporting the "capital mismanagement" candidate while being on a business board.

>Speculators take risk.
>Speculators are not assured profit.
>Speculators are necessary for markets as they provide liquidity for hedgers.

There is nothing wrong with speculators, unless they are in a position to muscle markets (ie: market power) and this rarely, if ever, occurs. Especially in larger cap. markets.

seriously? why how do Internet neckbeards have this disdain for daytrading? Wageslave here but I dream of someday making a living trend trading a few hours then going to the beach if my portfolio was so big to actually live off those sheckles. Do Bernie #occutards ever dream of anything besides socialism?

The only bern I will be feeling if he is elected (which won't happen) will be my sides berning with laughter, when he derails the economy, misallocates capital broadly, and then raids their homes and banks for tax revenues, Hugo Chavez (legacy mode) style.

Sarcasm, you guys. I'm a trader myself.
So that probably answers the 'Am I against speculation?' question as well.

>I'm a trader myself.
Just like everone else in this board ;^)

Robin Hood and his band of merry men?
