they are the almost exactly the same, although levis changes the fit of every model yearly plus each pair usually varies with fit because levis is weird and doesn't have a very high quality control these days

i recommend buying old 501s or 505s from second hand stores

I don't see the difference in any of these fits other than how slim they are around your legs, so why get 501s if you're getting them tapered to fit around your legs better? Why not just get 511s?

The idea that there is one fit perfect for everyone is really misunderstanding the point of fits and really just geometry in general. 511's on some people are quite loose while 501's on another person could be quite slim fitting. This is further complicated when you realize every pair is different and the 511's of one wash you bought 2 years ago could be completely different then the 511's you bought today. Looking at the pair of jeans on you at the store is the only way to get a fit that is "dope" beyond pure luck. There is no real room for discussion for a fit as a whole because we all have different body dimensions and to generalize a fit for everyone would be frivolous. Ive had 510's that could hardly even be called slim fit and ive had 510's that are so tight my entire dick is in plain sight, the variation is huge. There is a motif in this thread of xxx's are too tight/loose around my x; and that because we just all have different bodies, deal with it.

I personally wear 511s. I'm a manlet with short stocky legs and 511s while still, well, slim--are not super skinny jeans which look pretty bad on people with short stocky legs.
