I'm in college and am hiring classmates to work for my startup. I'm autistic, so I want to dress in such a way that people will be more inclined to do what I tell them and take me seriously.
Right now I dress pretty bland slackercore; slim dickies and cp achilles. I can't imagine working for someone who always wears sweatpants or something, though, especially if I share classes with them. It would probably take me a while to get used to the idea of treating someone who dresses as sloppily as I currently do as my boss.
It's kind of an interesting question, though. When you think of a "natural leader", what are they wearing? What do they look like?
I was browsing my inspo folder and chose pic related - jacket makes zain's shoulders look broad, and the colors are understated and dark.
Alexander James
Being a leader isn't about what you wear. You got the autism part spot on.
Colton Kelly
A LEADER IS DEFINED BY HIS/HER PERSONALITY, NOT BY HIS/HER CLOTHES.
NO CLOTHES WILL MAKE SOMEONE SEEM LIKE A LEADER, IF THAT PERSON LACKS A LEADER PERSONALITY; CONVERSELY, A LEADER WILL ALWAYS BE PERCEIVED AS SUCH, REGARDLESS OF WHAT HE/SHE IS WEARING.
Camden Butler
Ignore the autistic mudslime that keeps posting in all caps.
> dress like pic related
Jeremiah Stewart
He looks like a faggot
If you want to dress like a "leader" and have people take you seriously, just go with something no-nonsense like a blazer
Easton Gonzalez
First post best post.
Lincoln Ramirez
Here's an example from the other side of the spectrum i guess. idk why but this screams "cuck"
yeah i know, desu i'm really more curious about how people follow others based on their fashion statements and social signaling. this board is 10x more autistic than me so i expect to get some very in-depth replies
most of my guys dress like that, actually
Zachary Johnson
>... people follow others based on their fashion statements and social signaling. >yeah i know...
NO, YOU DO NOT KNOW.
Oliver Reyes
dumping more leader inspo i guess
also can someone tell me if that's just an index card in patrik's shirt pocket?
sure does for me and most everyone I know
what's your story btw? i don't think i've ever seen you make a post that wasn't anti-fashion in general, unless i have you mixed up with another all caps trip
Michael Mitchell
I guess I'll actually give you a reply that may be somewhat useful.
You have to dress as what the potential employees aspire to be.
Do they want to be someone who has "fuck you" money and is able to walk in to a business meeting dressed in cargo shorts and a t-shirt a-la Social Network's Justin Timberlake?
Do they see themselves as an almost DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street wheeler dealer? Designer/Bespoke suits and whatnot?
If you want to exert an air of authority in the workplace, the best way to do that is to dress like the person that your employees want to be.
Joshua Moore
jesus christ please post your degree in psychology or stop giving people advice based on your middle age like beliefs
Colton Watson
maybe it's just his height and expression, but techno guy looks like he knows exactly what he's doing, all the time
that's actually really insightful. I was worried people would confuse authority with just being alpha, that highlights the difference pretty well.
Isaiah Turner
No problem.
Thankfully, I run my business with friends, so don't need to worry about authority, I own a larger share, but we are all owners and take an hourly wage.
I turn up to work in whatever I want, as do they. When we run the bar we tend to dress pretty Veeky Forums doe.
Logan Evans
i imagine there's a keynesian beauty contest component to it as well - if you think other people respect this guy, then you're inclined to respect him as well. Your idea of a leader is in part informed by your idea of other peoples' ideas of a leader.
pic related is mall-tier but it's my idea of somebody else's idea of "successful"
Brayden Lopez
Dress for your crowd bozo.
If you need the business types wear button down shirts and chinos.
If you need the nerds be more casual. Go Oxfords and jeans. But I think the most important part would be choosing the right color.
Do not go for the bright colors like in pic Go for more neutral ones. Maybe throw some power red and see if they respond. I have always seen the one who dressed the most neutral in a crowd of graphic tees and plaid shirts as the leader.
Pic related, the leader of one of the hottest start ups now.

Start by not dressing like your pic.
Before anything, you need to be attractive since people are more likely to like and listen to people they find attractive. Exercise and keep in shape. Pay attention to grooming. General appearance should be clean and understated--think classic and professional kinds of style rather than "fashion"; this communicates conscientiousness, sturdiness, and a focus on business rather than on oneself. Dressing too flashy can make it seem like you're overcompensating or egocentric, not good "leader" qualities.
For clothes, I suggest you wear tailored jackets/sports coats, quality button-ups, nice sweaters, fitted pants/jeans, and maybe some loafers or oxfords. Hell, you could even just wear a suit, but that's probably overkill. To be safe, go with "business casual." Take professional, sartorial type shit and maybe dress it down a little, or conversely, take clean, sharp everyday clothes and dress it up. It sounds kind of boring and lame in a "GQ-ish" quality, but this is the safe option and it works. Not too loud/flashy, but not sloppy or too boring either. Make it subtle, confident, professional. Take basic, neutral palettes and add a pop here and there.
The rest is personality factors. This is really the most important part. Without this, no amount of nice clothes can make you a real leader. Leaders are extroverted. Be assertive and confident in your speech. Take initiative; make the crucial decisions and delegate work (preferably democratically, but you should be the one to propose this shit). Work on your posture. Look people in the eyes when you talk to them. Don't be dominant or aggressive; good leaders appear strong, but gentle/caring enough so that people want to follow them. Make it about teamwork and the group, but position yourself at the center: think of yourself as the glue that holds everything together.
That's all I can think of. Where Veeky Forums is concerned, just dress conservatively and professionally.

Also the thing about dressing flashy is that you look like a rebel and an outsider. It isn't a good look for a leader. A leader is someone who is ontop and ahead of the masses. So you should look like you are ahead and more mature than your crowd. That means dressing less experimental since you should look like you figured yourself out already. Lets face it a lot of young kids are lost and do not know what they will do in 5 years.
Bigger than knowing how to dress is building a reputation for your self. Be active in class so it looks like you know something. Half the time I dress quite poorly and my fit is a complete mess. But people come to me for leadership in group projects because they think I know what I am doing. Most of the time I do and I get things done but I also tend to take a back seat and want less to do with the project. Reputation matters.
Noah Ortiz
Autists have a limited chance of being leaders and the clothes you wear will have no impact wether people will think u can lead shit

YOUR REPLIES ARE NONSENSICAL/NONSEQUITURIAL; YOU ARE NOT MAKING ANY "POINT".

Camden Wood
Looking like a leader is mostly genetic. Srs.
Liam Clark

If you have a start up and you have high expectations on the way people dress then you are an idiot. If you are a professional with a degree and an established business and you are big enough to have a dress standard then go right ahead but if you are doing a software startup thing then you definitely got your priorities fucked. Most programmers or other types of introverted freelancer/work at home types are shut ins who dont give a shit about how they dress. Even if it isnt that sort of start up, you should focus on your actual qualities and develop your people skills, become a better organizer, manager and communicator and look for other people who have real qualities that will help your business. Worry about image later.
Aiden Jackson
just dress like raf.

Josiah Miller
Take this example. Wear a watch. A good watch can exude power.
Jack Carter
Men respect other men with large chins, it's a sign of masculinity and dominance. Men have less/no repsect for other men with weak chins.
It's animal-like behavior that makes me cringe to describe
Noah Brown
Dressing nice won't do anything to help with that. It's not like your an autist trying to get a girlfriend where looks actually matter. Being a leader is 100% attitude
Kayden Moore
Die faggot
Juan Murphy
If you are smooth enough with girls look really don't matter as much as you think either. It's not what you've got but how you present it that matters.
Sebastian Collins
step 1: be tall step 2: be broad shouldered step 3: wear any semiformal/formal clothing that is tailored and of decent-high quality step 4: have properly currated accessories (watch, belt) to show you have your stuff together step 5: practice proper speaking and body language/posture
there you go, you can probably get away with not being tall if you are built and have good posture
you can also skip a lot of these steps if you are naturally charismatic
Anthony Nguyen
What's the startup?
Mason Allen

Elijah Allen

step 1 and step 2 are not clothes bruh, how the fuck you gonna dress 'be tall'
I dont even know what this threads about, you talking how to dress alpha? Having to ask means you will always be betafag till death
Ryder Davis
You need a steve jobs to your steve wozniak. If you're really bad at reading social cues, get a third party to find him or her for you.
A successful startup needs a person genius and a science genius
