Really makes you think, huh?

Really makes you think, huh?

No, no it does not. Makes me think of Greek and Roman vomitoriums.

*tips xiphos*

"Evil" in humans is actually God's curse from the punishment for original sin. That is what the allegory depicts, the tendency of every human to be biased, cruel, self-serving, or in some other way blind to the welfare of others, and acting in an accordingly negative manner. Evil is not sickness, because sickness is part of the natural world when things break down or fail to resist pathogens/parasites, nor is it particularly "fate", the just-shit-happens aspect of living.

Evil exists, but it is not supernatural. So you'll ask, "What about Satan?", well, what of him? The curse of original sin on us from God is more powerful in our minds, our psychology, it's permanent, in the condition of all mankind, not in a particular instance of demonic possession or the like. We're all "born good" and we're all "born evil", and that is the illustration.

Ebin atheism memes side I do basically think he's right.

Christianity tries to get around this by saying that it's somehow OUR fault evil exists. Nevermind the fact that this argument doesnt work at all when God is all powerful, all knowing, and can see the future. But hey, Christians have never been accused of being logical in their beliefs.

Well you see, he's actually the demiurge.

>le good and evil meme

And people have writing rebuttals against this cliched meme since the time of Origen.

And they still haven't come up with a satisfactory one

The shaivist stance is solid.

If God actually intervened and prevented evil than there could be no consistent laws of the universe. For example, if one person were to shoot a gun at another, that would be an evil action. If God were to still deliver us the free will he has been claimed to have given, then the only possible way to prevent this evil from taking place would be to prevent the bullet from reaching the other individual. To do this would violate all understandings of physics and its laws. If there is no consistent physical laws present in the universe, and they are subject to change to avoid evil. This does not sound like the ideal creation of an all powerful being.

if you woke up in buffalo bill's basement would that be good or evil

It's called free will

he might be both omnipotent and good but not have perfect knowledge. like, he would *love* to help you push that shit out of your ass instead of having you agonizing in the toilet, but he just does not know you are in pain.

problem solved.

>he thinks vomitoriums were for puking

Shouldn't that be gods since Epicurus was around hundreds of years before christianity became a thing?

>god
>not gods

Opinion discarded

The quote is mutated slightly but no, Epicurus uses a singular 'god'.

Not like it would make a difference since the logic equally applicable to any religion which claims to have a god that is good, especially perfectly good.

Able and willing. Where does evil come from? You. You desire it, and you do it. God has his will, and you have yours. God's is all good. Yours is lacking, partly because you are not God, but mostly because you do not conform your will to God's will. You do not conform your will perfectly to God's will: hence evil. That is what evil is: not conforming your will to God's will. Part of that is ignorance (which is an evil): you don't know what God's will is. Part of that is laziness (which is evil): you know something about what God wants, but you still don't do it. Part of it is because you prefer evil to good out of long habit. Of course this is also evil. And also there is evil that comes from the fact that sometimes when you want to do what is right (i.e. follow God's will), you end up not doing it because you are too weak. Someone makes fun of you, and you change your mind. Someone throws up an argument against it, and you change your mind. Someone threatens to do something bad to you if you do good, so you change your mind. Something distracts you, and you forget to do it.

So evil comes from you. Does that mean you are inherently evil? No. It is a choice you make. You don't have to make that choice. Furthermore, evil did not originate with human beings. It originated with an angel, who taught it to other angels and to humans.

But why is evil allowed? On the one hand, this is a deep question and you should not expect to be able to contain it neatly in a syllogism, or comprehend it entirely in this life. Or ever. On the other hand, it isn't actually allowed in the long run, or at any rate it is now allowed to interfere with good. Evil is a departure and a separation from God, and hence from everything good. This departure and separation occurs because of the will and the activity of God. God in fact does separate good from evil, and there is a place where no evil is and no evil ever will be.

We are not in that place, but we are either moving towards it or away from it. We are given a certain amount of time to cross the border. If we succeed, with God's help, then we will be able to stay in the place where no evil ever will be. The question of why evil is allowed then becomes moot for such a person, because it will not be allowed, and this will not harm that person's will because they will have definitively chosen to reject evil and conform themself to the perfect will of God forever.

Those who do not choose to do this will remain in a place where evil is, forever. As evil moves away from good, forever, they move with it, forever. As this process continues, as gap opens up between the place of good and the place of evil. At some point, this gap will become completely impossible to cross. Those who are on one side will have no contact with, and no memory of, those on the other side.

Will evil ever be destroyed? No, not as such. Why? Because that in itself would be the greatest evil. The desire for non-existence, to destroy oneself or others, is an evil, a symptom of evil, and the cause of many evil actions.

In summary: Who is your daddy, and what does he do? Evil? OK then. Good? But is there any evil mixed in? Yes? OK then. No? OK then. Get adopted by the right Dad. God adopts. So does the devil, but he had you at birth.

autism

Addendum: It would be more correct to say that evil *is* totally destroyed, in the place where no evil is. Outside of that, what remains good is not destroyed. What remains good is what is aware of evil, and loves it, and hence desires the destruction of what is good, which allows the perception of evil. But perception will not be destroyed, because it is good.

If you don't get rid of evil in yourself while you can, you will not get to the good place where no evil can be perceived. You will always be perceiving evil, and wondering why it is there and why it is allowed, and never knowing the answer.

Why would a human know what true evil is compared to an omnipotent being?

Islamic answer to this would be something like this:
>the god is out of our perception and our logic, we can't understand anything about him and we don't have to

>Hey senpai you can live in a perfect paradise with no problems, Ill even come visit you and we can chill.
>Just don't eat from that tree.

idk I'm not fat so that doesn't really bother me

based Epicurus

he would be the kind of guy to walk around in a t-shirt that says "I'm a hedonist, debate me."

>>Epicurus uses a singular 'god'.
Why? I mean monotheism was still basically a jewish thing when he was around.

makes me think dude dint know his own peoples mythology
