Hey guys

Hey guys,
Not sure where to post this but I thought Veeky Forums might be acceptable.
I found out yesterday that my gf is pregnant.
I'm 21 and have been working in restaurants for probably 4 or 5 years now, but thats the only experience I have. However, working in restaurants as a cook isn't going to get me enough to take care of me, her, and this baby.

So my question is, what are some jobs I could apply for with a decent salary and steady income without having a degree?

thanks

Where do you live?

north of atlanta.

congratulations, bro!

do you enjoy cooking?

Is your girlfriend employed? You guys need to be saving right now and getting two incomes while you can.

Do either of you have any college education?

Water well drilling. Become a "helper". Usually no experience necessary. Decent money, backbreaking work

Thank you! I love cooking, but I feel like i need some kind of desk job or something. Something where I can make at least 25k a year

She's a waitress at a nice new restaurant that just opened in town. Fancy shit, but I dont want her to have to work often at all, especially as time goes on.

I'm not s

I'm not sure theres well drilling available here. I'm looking for like an entry-level data entry job or something. The hardest part is getting my foot in the door, especially when I only have restaurant experience.

You can do a lot better than $25k with a high school diploma. I do. You need to be looking at stuff like construction.

Does she have any college experience. She's going to need to work after you guys have the kid.

You're young enough that it's fine if that's all you have. You should be looking at plumbing, electrical work, and other skilled crafts. Working indoors as a man without a degree is going to get you shit money.

Maybe so. I'm waiting to hear back on a pest control position, but they haven't called me yet.
I'm looking for something where I can really bust my ass, I'm just not a huge guy, so I feel like they dismiss me immediately. But if i had the chance I could show them how hard I'm willing to work.
And she has a year of school under her belt, going back in the fall.

What is she in school for?

Physical appearance isn't everything, you just need to find the right job. Keep in mind, a job with the right pay, might not let you see your child or girlfriend(you should look at getting married) very much.

make porn of your GF and sell for profit

She wants to go for business. So far she only has core classes finished though.
And you're right, its just hard to find something with solid pay and steady hours that doesnt require I have a degree or drive far af away.

You should really find a way to keep cooking. If at all possible, do something you enjoy.

Having a kid is a great thing and will change your life (for the better if you want it to). But it can be extremely stressful and you work can be a great release from the routine you get in with kids. The last thing I would want is to be clockwatching in an office job doing meaningless work while away from my family and then bring that mentality home. For me, having meaningful work to do is a way to justify the time spent away as well as an excellent stress release.

Ways you can keep cooking:
>explain your situation to your employer. Tell him you are passionate (use that word) about cooking and want to stay but the money isnt going to work out. You may be able to negotiate a raise.
>look for a second job (preferably on-call). Be creative. Search all job listings everywhere for something that fits your schedule. You may be surprised what you find
>take side work on craigslist. Check the labor gigs section. You can often earn enough extra money one day a week to make things work.
>further your cooking career. Whether this is school or interviewing for more prestigious positions

One thing having a kid can do if you let it is give you a newfound drive at work. But only if your work is something you enjoy. This can propel you to places you didnt think were possible to reach before. When successful people see you showing up early and giving it everything you have, they will want to help you on your road to success, since they see themselves in you. Dont forget, there are people making very good money in the top tiers of nearly every position in the world. There are very highly paid chefs and owning a resturaunt can be extremely lucrative. The people who got to thise positions always found a way to make it work along the way.

Good luck with it OP.

You're a cool guy for staying with your gf and supporting her.

>21
>life already ruined
>congratulations, bro!
lolwhut

>She's a waitress at a nice new restaurant that just opened in town.
the plot thickens when it turns out that the black restaurant owner is the father.

The military You'll make that going in if you've got dependants.

If you're willing to bust your ass, the Air Force Special forces you'll make about 45k.

If you get stationed overseas like germany or korea, its a year long party, and you're making like 65k on average foreign+flight+danger etc...

Free emergency medical care for life you wife and kid + and you get veterans disability and regular civilian disability.

B/c you've got gf and kid you don't have to live in shitty barracks which in the airforce are just nice apartments. You can get your own house with VA loan or live in base housing.

dfas.mil/militarymembers/payentitlements/military-pay-charts.html

Get the careers with the most special incentive pay and you're gold. except security forces which is bullshit.

>Joining the military
Why are you trying to destroy this young man's life and family?

It was one of the better decisions I've ever made and I only served two years. If a kid popped out of my girlfriend right now. I'd sign back up in a heartbeat.

Why do you think it would destroy his life?

Oh did I mention Free College for you and the family while you're in.

Oh did I mention that if you've got decent SAT scores you can pretty much go straight to the Air Force Academy after basic training. There are 300 or so slots for enlisted and only 80 ever get used. Its one of the best programs around.

And if she's actually into business, you have guaranteed high quality, high recourse, renters for your properties. They stop paying, just tell the commander and the office cuts you a check right there and investigates the soldier and straightens up their life.
She'll be a real estate mogul in no time.

Good on you man for sticking it out with your gf and choosing to raise your kid.

Going to piggy back off this thread. I'm 23 and all my work experience has been manual labor work (construction, warehouse, dishwashing, landscaping). I'm disqualified from joining the military for
medical reasons.

How do I get an entry level office job? I'm always turned away when I start discussing my work experience. Will taking a web development mooc or attending one of those coding bootcamps help me get my foot in the door?

All I ever hear of military wives is them slutting around.

Like I said go special forces and you will not likely have this problem.

If you're fucking bad in bed you deserve to get cucked on.

Seriously buy her a nice sybian while you're away to keep her satisfied.

Thank you, bros.

Just got an interview with a guy for a carpentry apprentice position. Nothing too exciting, but its something. Headed to meet him now. Wish me luck, guys!

Your/his girlfriend would almost immediately start fucking other guys

This is exactly the kind of job you want to get. It's a skilled trade that will pay you more than what you're making now that also gives you a much larger income potential once you master it.

Your work experience isn't relevant at all. Jobs today don't have time to train you in tech. Build a body of work freelancing and bring a portfolio with you of stuff you've done.

Have her apply for welfare and wic. Congrats. You're living the cuck dream.

op sounds like a minority
doesnt qualify

Why wouldn't a minority be applicable for welfare and wic? Sounds like they're both poor. It's income based.

Just realized you meant the cuck part...

SNAP.

I live in Cumming and am looking for an employee.

Where you at user?

Hey bros,
so I just met with the guy and he wants me to start Monday. I'll be helping him to refinish tile in bathrooms and kitchens. He said he'd pay me 10/hr to start but move me up quickly if I showed him I can work hard. I'd be working everyday from 6 am to 4 pm. What do you guys think?

Hey man,
I'm in Woodstock/Kennesaw area.

I make more than that working in a kitchen.

How do you, you know, avoid getting sent to a war-torn country to die?

I did too. But I'll get more hours here and if he means what he says, he'll move my pay up quick.

Work a trade, and remember you are getting paid to LEARN a skill. A very valuable skill. Keep it up, get almost as good as him and you should.be worth $20/hr after 6-9 months if you are able to get your own tools. Eventually you should.have a truck and start a business as a sole proprietor. You may need liscencing to do this as well as insurance. Eventually look into getting your general contractors license, then you can make roughly $40-$60/gr and manage other sub contractors. No joke this is the way to go.
At some point you can have a few guys and a line of trucks( -10-20 years down the road) working for you while you hustle up contracts. Or keep a book of sub contractors instead. The goal.here is to learn as much as you can while.getting paid, collect your tools and then strike.out on your own projects. We can talk more

If you get your shit together as a cook you should be able to pull $575/week with low cost of living in your area.

get a paternity test, broski

Google "jobcorps" you could be an electrician or plumber for free before it pops out of her belly

Join the military. If you truly care about your family it offers the best options as far as actually taking care of them. If you don't care about taking care of them and don't really want to work that hard, but want to masquerade as a family man then be my guest and go for your 575$ a week as a cook.

I'll happily walk you through the best way to enlist, what jobs to aim for and how to navigate recruiters if you're interested at all.

You will get full healthcare and a place to live for your family (you don't have to pay out of your basepay). You will get a GI bill which you can use to go to college yourself (to improve your earning potential. You get paid while you go to college so you can still support your family) or you can save it for your child so they can pursue a college degree.

Not only that, but it will probably help you to gain some discipline and structure that will help you in raising your child. If you only choose to do 3 years in the Military you will come out with money in the bank and a college education for your child.

If you decide to stay you can retire before you're 45 and have done your family a great service.

I'd recommend considering your options and really ask yourself what you're willing to give to your family.

Pick your job wisely. The majority of anyone who gets sent into harm's way these days are special operations. You don't "accidentally" become special ops. They have lines miles long of perfect physical specimens who can run and never stop who want to be badass frogmen, rangers, green berets, combat air controllers, pj's, etc. The odds of you getting sent to combat if you have a job like registered nurse (68c) or geospatial intelligence analyst (35g).

There are so many people who WANT to see combat and be one of the few that gets to have autonomy and operate in these types of areas do you HONESTLY think that some NEET fuccboi with no training, no physical endurance and no motivation to do those types of things is going to be sent there?

I'm saying this as someone with a very good understanding of our Military that if you pick your job wisely (I would be more than happy to help anyone who's interested) you will get deployed straight to a SCIF (basically a shipping container with classified computer networks where you beep boop for 9 months and tell everyone about your "deployment" to "afghanistan").

It's not fucking dangerous stop being an egotistical pussy

You don't get into Culinary to work for other people. The whole point is to start your own restaurant.

Other than that, there are Chefs who make 250k a year working for other people. Is it rare? Yeah, but not impossible.

that's $100 bucks a day.

ask when he's gonna make the determination to move you up?
Ask if there are any certifications/trades you can get to make yourself actually fucking useful?

ah glad you asked, one don't join "security forces", who are woefully underequipped and have the longest escort duties.
Then lets do the math.
During the entire war on Terror according to wikipedia, there were 2,046 deaths, and 18201 wounded in action.
There are approximately 1,301,300 active duty & 811,000 reserve soldiers on duty again according to wikipedia

Thats a 0.1% change of being killed or wounded overseas in 10 years of war.

We live in what is called 4th generation warfare. Where engagements are sparce and meticulously planned for maximum effect. Meaning its mostly special forces doing the actual fighting.
In most cases its the elite 1% of the military doing the actual fighting and making up the majority of the casualties.
Drastically skewing the odds in your favor.

You've got less than 1:1000 chance of being affected if you join.

Just to expand on what type of benefits you can expect from Active Duty:

You'll get your monthly pay which can be found on a paychart (just google "military pay chart).

You will get free health-insurance (tricare for you and your dependents).

You will receive a monthly housing stipend to live on-base or off-base if you are married.

You can receive tuition assistance to take college courses and CLEP exams while you are Active Duty to help you get closer to your degree.

After completing your term of service (or being discharged with disability that was caused or has been aggravated by military service) you will gain access to a VA home loan (0% down and guaranteed by the VA for a PRIMARY RESIDENCE (YOU CANNOT RENT IT OUT)) as well as the post 9/11 GI bill.

The post 9/11 GI bill is basically the golden ticket for either you or your child (you can transfer it to dependents, but I would NOT recommend transferring it to your wife under any circumstance). You can google more information about it, but you receive a housing allowance (just like active duty) while you are using the GI bill to go to school so that you can support your family while being a full time student.

Even if you're fat, out of shape, ugly, whatever, you have enough time between now and your baby being born to start a couch-to-5k running program and do some pushups and situps every day to get ready.

The physical standards for the military are easy as fuck and before you come back at me with some bullshit about how you "cant" because "medical" and "some shit i cant talk about because i said so" stop being a fucking pussy and remember that you have a family now and if you want to be a pathetic cuck that cant even care for the life you bring into this world then good fucking riddance I hope your inferior genetics are gone from the human gene pool forever because you are a fucking disgrace.

also the military doesnt get your medical records unless you give it to them.

Ah ah ah VA Home loans are available for duplexes triplexes and 4-plexes which can be rented out so long as you also live there for 2 years. But you can simply refinance out after and have it completely rented after that period. but 0 down for a 4plex is a financial wet dream.

Yeah thats like 45 min out, and I'm not paying much more than that anyway.

Good luck.

Thanks Tyrone as always you are a font of wisdom.

The first six months is hard. Visit Veeky Forumss sticky and make sure you get in shape (lift), no cardio, because whatever you are now is going to get worse, guaranteed. Once you make it to 7 or 8 it will get better but be prepared. She will probably have to work for a while.
