Seriously what the fuck is The damn appeal to this damn logo and the fucking brand of Nike.
I see EVERYONE rocking this shit, you know the thing about fashion is to not be like everyone else.
You know, have your own style? What the fuck, why the hell I see all these damn swoosh bullshit logos on people's shoes.
>The product is goo No it isn't, majority of their kicks break down after 4-5 years of extensive usage
>they're fashionable
Sure because having a big fucking logo of a check mark somehow validates that the shoe fashion sense is good
You know I'm AWARE fashion has been getting worse and worse. Especially in footwear when you have Vans Sk8 highs being worn by blacks who never even picked up a skateboard but all these damn Nike logos.
It's just fucking baffling how people claim to have their own unique style when you turn yourself into a damn billboard
Ryder Allen
the black kids who had a hand in making sk8 highs and old skools a meme are all part of net-rap communities that overlap heavily with skate culture but okay
Connor Howard
Post what you wear then.
William Perry
i have a pair of nikes that i wear for exercise and running. post your fit OP
Tyler Perry
normies love athleisure and big brands, nike is one of the two biggest atheisure brands out there. the other one just tends to have a bit more tasteful branding
Eli Morris
>you know the thing about fashion is to not be like everyone else.
You're making some might big assumptions there bucko. Fashion is a form of communication. The best way to communicate is with a vocabulary that other people can understand. For most people that aren't angsty children like yourself, fitting in is actually part of the appeal. It makes you look trustworthy, relatable, and "with it." Within that overarching goal, it is also important to be seen as at the top end of this class. People will wear clothing with slightly exotic flair because it displays their affluence. But again, it's better to do it within the understood paradigm in a way that says "refined taste."
As for Nike, people where them simultaneously for their heritage and their novelty. You are probably much to young to remember when Nike was the new kid on the block, pioneering marketing from professional athletes, paying mj's penalty fees from wearing them in-game. They were the rebel company for a short while, but the image has changed. As for the swoop, it's an easily identifiable branding, drawn with a single motion, that always provides a highlight or pockmark to whatever it's enscribed on. It embodies motion, flight, victory, joy, and a job well done.
Christopher Wood
>thinking it's 100% about the logo or about following the crowd Have you considered that Nike is popular because their product looks good and they have the largest market share?
Xavier Peterson
meh i wear nike because they fit my feet perfectly and i know what i'm getting
Liam White
OP, I know you are going to get flamed for this and I'm actually not sure if it's bait or not but I unironically agree with everything in your post. Rocking heavily branded shit with the sweatshop swoosh is lame and embarrassing and basic. It's for conformists and braindead mongoloids who watch spectator sports. Not everything Nike makes is necessarily bad, but I hate what their brand represents ideologically and refuse to wear it. It's for the "mass man". There's so many choices, I'll just find some other shit.
Isaac Lopez
Did you really just say the swoosh embodies victory, joy, and flight? Nobody putting on a pair of these ever believe they will help your performance especially since majority of people wear them as casual wear. Being apart of the crowd somehow makes you "aware" and "with it". Then you have no idea what fashion is, if you think fashion is about fitting in to what other people do especially for the sake of a brand then you're damaged.
Please there are so many other options for sneakers aside from the dominant shoe company. Have you ever wondered why people go towards the biggest names first? It's because they have more resources to promote their products better than lower competitiors. You can't look me in the eye and say with a straight face that you haven't tried other lesser popular branded shoes and they don't feel as good as nikes.
Elijah Davis
Agree 100% with you and no I'm serious with this thread it makes very little sense for people to unironically wear this heavily branded bigger is and then somehow feel they have a sense of self fashion for it
Jackson Fisher
>No it isn't, majority of their kicks break down after 4-5 years of extensive usage
this is entirely acceptable and expected though
Adam Johnson
since when do you have to be a skater to wear stuff that is marketed by a company as "cool sk8ers wear this guise" kind of a sheep mentality idea
Luis Phillips
while I do not take a stand against the sweatshop meme, I agree that the nike brand has sort of become the poster boy for it and the aggressive branding they use does transmit the idea that you describe
Brody Richardson
>they're popular because they're popular
oh I see
Henry Richardson
Different user here but I'll back you up fully. Nike shoes are overpriced and perform poorly. I hate their Oregon hippie marketing and their endless pandering to niggers /muzzies. There is literally zero reason for people to pay full price for any Nike shoe.
John Hernandez
>refined taste >Nike
Bentley Watson
>normies love athleisure
they seriously love athleisure. they would fuck athleisure if they could
Dominic Powell
nobody except the faggot OP said that
I was just pointing out why he's factually wrong
Blake Torres
>It embodies motion, flight, victory, joy, and a job well done.
hello Nike marketing rep
I really don't see the appeal of Nike beyond branding. Unless you're into the streetwear metagame, most of their designs are outdone by something else.
Like only nike could take a basic white shoe like and make it hideous. The toe on the cortez is fuck ugly and ruins the whole shoe. Most nike designs suffer from hideous overdesign, trying to compensate with bad colorways, piss-poor silhouettes, or some combination thereof.
an empire of meme shoes desu famiglia.
Jacob White
Nike outlet offerings are like 75% of the brand's lineup these days. Make the normies think they're getting a deal while simultaneously picking the pocket of hypebeasts.
I'm so glad that Adidas has come up strong in the past few years and I hope they surpass Nike in market share / prominence before the decade is over.
Carter Anderson
>the point of fashion is to do what you like >also black people are posers if they wear skateboarding shoes
Jace Wilson
once again european superiority becomes apparent
desu we should kick anglos and nonwhites from this place
Jace Nguyen
Blacks are the biggest posers in the fashion community prove Mr wrong clown
Bentley Smith
>majority of their kicks break down after 4-5 years of extensive usage Confirmed bait
Wyatt Davis
yes, athleisure is a perfect product. it is cheap, easy to wear, but gives the wearer an appearance of health, power, and discipline. nike has imprinted its context on world consciousness, the virtue of sport and struggle is symbolized by the swoosh.
in a similar way, i like to wear ralph lauren shirts with the little pony on the chest, not because it shows that I have money or status (i get rl secondhand), but because the contexts of ralph are that 1) the wearer is normative/adequately socially adjusted, 2) the pony symbolizes a fantasy world of casual nobility, equal parts gentle and rugged. it is now slightly more than just a shirt. it is fun to participate in a fantasy, nike and rl are socially acceptable fantasies to model your behavior after. maybe i've thought too hard about this but that's the way i see it, or maybe i'm just pointing out the obvious.
Sebastian Taylor
>european superiority Well Euros (and Japs) actually still eat out of Nike's increasingly swarthy hands. Adidas is particularly big in America, especially on the west coast. We yanks have the most robust and discriminating marketplace in the world, and you Krauts produce some of the best stuff. In return, you buy our cut-rate swill. Probably because it's cheap and mass marketed using your brown sports heroes.
Nathaniel Myers
>the product is goo
lol
Justin Sanders
copping 2nd hand luxury brands (ralph, nautica, tommy) because of the connotative aesthetics of vintage yuppie culture is so far superior to the current nike hype cult that they aren't comparable.
Alexander Lewis
The last few pairs of nike shoes I've bought have been absolutely shit. I bought some airmax for 120$ from the flagship store at Lenox and they were fucking awful. Laces broke and they took forever to break in
Austin Turner
>stop liking what I don't like >reeeeeeeeeeeeeeer Fucking hell, go get some aspergers medicine
Jaxson Baker
>everyone says how comfy Huaraches are >curious about "air sole" tech and how it cushions compared to normal sneaker midsoles >Huarache Run Ultra on deep discount, can cop for under $70 online >cop em in triple black >they arrive >plastic and nylon everywhere >feels utterly cheap >decently lightweight, but zero sole rebound They seriously wear like a slip-on work boot but with a soft upper. Toe box protector is stiff and presses on top of big toe with every step. >mfw I could have bought another pair of Alphabounce for this money.
Luis Baker
>they took forever to break in
my experience with nike shoes in general
Christian Lopez
Wait shoes are supposed to last 5 years aside from boots?
Isaac Thomas
Worn daily for work, I got just 9 months out of a pair of Free Run 2.0 Nikes. Most normal sneakers go for about a year when daily driven or worn hard. If you have a rotation going, 5 years should be very attainable for any sneaker.
Jaxon Roberts
You sound like you fap to sissy porn.
Joseph White
>666 >sissy porn
Brayden Fisher
>EVERYONE WHO MIGHT POTENTIALLY NOT HATE BLACK PEOPLE IS A SISSY KEK
Jack Brooks
>majority of their kicks break down after 4-5 years of extensive usage
who the fuck wears the same sneaker for that long you faggot
Nicholas Ward
>Being this fucking new
Get the fuck out of fa and this thread
Tyler Bell
Since the shoes are designed and made for people who actually care about the skating culture and not some fucking posers who think it's cool to wear shit to be a scene faggot.
You werent apart of the damn culture and you don't want to be. So stop trying to wear shit based around it.
Same reason why people HATE Hypebeast. They are just assholes looking to just cuck onto whatever looks cool
Xavier Foster
Did you really use the Cortez as a scapegoat for why nikes are popular with their "good products".
Boy, did you not know they stole ontisuka tiger designs to make that shoe
Lucas Cox
Let's not forget that Nike are entirely derived from Onitsuka. Nike was originally Blue Ribbon Shoes, a small time distributor of Onitsuka Tiger shoes in the pacific NW in the 1970's. When the company became Nike, they poached Onitsuka shoe designers / engineers from Japan and produced early runs of their product at Japanese shoe factories used by Onitsuka. That local manufacturing and origin is probably what keeps Nike popular in Japan today, much like Fender guitars.
Oliver Gray
Exactly, motherfuckers aren't built of the backs of "innovation". They started out as thieves. Some dudes in this thread don't know what they're talking about
Austin Adams
wow are you 14?
Jayden Gomez
>inane opinion prove Mr wrong
Adrian Collins
great artists steal only counts when your the end result of your innovation isn't a vastly inferior mob shoe with an ugly toebox
Hunter Diaz
Well then Nike is complete garbage then. They aren't really comfortable to begin with and all they do now is live off their old designs and retro everything.
They have long since lived passed their time
Blake Sanders
Dear god. All these poor souls don't understand branding, marketing, and basic human socialization.
Jaxon Russell
Bro shut the hell up. Fitting in with a crowd isn't human socialization, branding and tricking people into believing your shit is good is also bullshit. Youre the one with the problem
Jace Nguyen
They've had great designers making great designs for decades. That earns you a reputation. That earns you sales.
Are you retarded op?
Hunter Hall
>Great designers
Boy shut up, they haven't been making shit that any other company couldnt. Many other notable companies have had great designers that earned them a reputation. So get the fuck on bro.
>Ooooooo it's pretty You are the definition of a dumbass
Samuel Bennett
>majority of their kicks break down after 4-5 years of extensive usage what sneakers do you have that look good after more than one or two years of everyday wear
Liam Myers
I produce my own fucking kicks that last cause you know. I actually put quality and work into shit.
Better question is what sneakers you feel make it so damn apparent that you can't have good quality working sneakers for years after every day wear
Evan Flores
And those companies are also succesful
Theres not much to understand if you know who nike has surronded themselves with.
Hatfield, Parker, Fujiawra, Avar, Takahasi. And both nike and jordan are constantly collaborating with the hottest brands out at any given moment.
Its. Not. Complicated.
Joshua Cooper
"I produce my own fucking kicks that last cause you know. I actually put quality and work into shit."
AHAHAHAHA POST THEM YOU FUCKING TROGLODYTE.
Isaiah Kelly
>I produce my own fucking kicks
lmao what the fuck
Justin Morgan
Snapchat photo of all my builds, since you think I'm some scene faggot.
>Consumerism proving once again that people believe they can't do shit a company can and better.
Parker Campbell
these arent running shoes.
you cant make better running shoes.
if you compare your shoes to the lunargrand cole haans that were made when nike owned cole haan, yours look like garbage.
I know you're upset because everyone thinks your just some dumb kid, but you really are just some dumb kid.
accept your mediocrity.
Anthony Gonzalez
why is it in black and white, what is this instagram
Nicholas Watson
I don't care about fashion. I dislike how judgmental people are when it comes to clothing. I wear Nike shoes the same way I eat oats for breakfast; because I have to eat breakfast in the morning and I use a food that's readily available and gets the job done.
Tyler Brown
While you're wrong saying that huaraches have air technology in them, you're right in saying alphabounces are the better choice
Connor Bailey
Salty aren't you kid, well guess what you can see more of my work if you want. Nike is a company, their products are 3rd world manufactured. I'm far better at making long lasting shoes than an assembly line. So yeah I have a stick up my ass. Accept your mediocrity
Caleb Murphy
>you have Vans Sk8 highs being worn by blacks who never even picked up a skateboard but all these damn Nike logos >You know I'm AWARE fashion has been getting worse and worse
Ethan Martinez
Fuck off black dude
William Flores
Imagine caring this much about what other people wear.
A logo doesn't define whether a brand is "fashionable", nor does it's popularity OR it's availability
which is why you see so much people wearing it
Josiah Hill
Consumerism does, you're right. Let me be a follower now. Just like yiu
Gabriel Moore
> Nike is popular because their product looks good
pic not related
Nathaniel Mitchell
>Did you really just say the swoosh embodies victory, joy, and flight? Nobody putting on a pair of these ever believe they will help your performance especially since majority of people wear them as casual wear.
No, you autist. They just look good, that's all. Who cares about all that philosophical stuffs though ? You're no plato.
Levi Gray
You're full of shit, just like majority of these Nike self-righteous spokesmen in this thread. I can name 5 brand better and more fashionable than them
Charles Turner
well man it's cool that you make your own shoes, it's something i'm very interested in trying out but you can't expect everyone to be a craftsman
other than making your own shoes what brands do you suggest then? since you hate nike so much
also your shoe designs are kinda ugly, i could probably do better
Sebastian Stewart
It's not so much about the brand though. I like Cortez, i like Court Classic, i like Blazers, i'm not really a fan of any brand. I can like them while also wearing Puma Suede or Adidas something. You're the autist here, like who cares, all brands make shitty products sometime in their lives. If Cortez had something else instead of the swoosh, i doubt i would still like it equally or better.
Dominic Torres
>Heel has AIR imprint >no AIR technology in the shoe this is why i fucking hate Nike
Eli Cooper
Yeah you're just spool up your own ass on morals huh?
>I can like anything I want
News flash dumbass you're bias and have a specific brand you like more than the others
Levi Walker
Shut the fuck up you dumbass, my shoes are more profound and eye popping beautiful than anything Nike has done. Still a Nike shill I see
Adam Young
>profound >eye popping beautiful I hate Nike but Jesus just kys already
Jaxon Thomas
Go make something you jackass
Easton Torres
I've made three white babies. I hope none of them grow up to be shoemaking faggots like yourself.
Jeremiah Williams
Just admit that you have your head up your own ass dude. You're not convincing anyone.
Easton Roberts
because nike seels the absolute cheapest tshirts
Hanes tagless tee = ~$9 at target
same shirt with a nike logo $4.99
I used to piss my money away on designer shit, but I made myself look like an ass most of the time.
now i just wear workout shirts and jeans with boots
even to work where the dress code calls for a two piece suit everyday.
works in my favor because sometimes i just stand around the office and if people start pestering me
I just answer with i don't know i don't work here im just standing here
Nicholas Peterson
>i don't know i don't work here im just standing here
Carson Martin
Can some Nike shill please explain the Air branding to me? Sounds like jewry to me. Unless I can see the air bubble I'm just gonna assume the shoe has a conventional foam and rubber sole, even though it's called Air Whatever.
Landon Hughes
It's nothing but a meme to them.
Asher Hernandez
hahaha why are you so mad? Did chad cuck you while wearing a pair of nike? Fuck i see more people in adidas shoes than nike these days
Ryder Rodriguez
... I combine these
Jaxon Bennett
I got over a year cycling around in sun and rain out of some 5.0s
Isaac Parker
I'm white
I have >Nike Lunar Skyelux >A brand new pair of AF1, white >A pair of AF1 that I've worn >Lunartempo 2 >2 pairs of Cons, 1 with Lunar >Nike Zoom Live to hoop in >Roshe 1 >Roshe 2
Those are my Nikes I recall off the top of my head.
Still want >Nike Free Commuter 2017 >Whatever shoe with the new cushion they just came out with for the Boston Marathon
>they only last 4-5 years Lmfao that's a long ass time man
Benjamin Cook
Shit Americuck brand
Levi Anderson
"4-5 years of extensive usage" You Are making their brand sound better are you sure you don't like them? Their symbol is actually urban fashion like its engraved into it.
Wyatt James
I still own a pair of vans I've owned since highschool and circulate them in and out of my wardrobe
Angel Taylor
fashion is about not being like anyone else wah wah wah shut the fuck up you goon
Brayden Allen
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
John Rodriguez
It's what it represents... There's a certain nostalgia to it...
Of hanging out with your friends at night on the street while grime music is playing in the background and drinking some beers and smoking some fags
Na'mean? Also it's just comfy af
Blake Edwards
Actually retarded. Nike and a damn check mark logo doesn't represent shit
Charles Sanchez
Adidas > Nike
All day baby
Alexander Howard
Their products are well made. Everything Nike I've ever owned have lasted for fucking ages... I had some Nike skate shoes that lasted me like 3 years of constant skating until they got a hole in them.
Charles Allen
I hate everything about what you just said. Chavs that stand on street corners obnoxiously listening to shitty grime music off their phone are the absolute WORST.
William Jones
5 years is a long time for a pair of shoes, unless you wear them only rarely.
As for the logo: it just does it.
Gabriel Evans
I like the way you worded this
Gabriel Gonzalez
although you may be a shill i agree with what you said generally bought a pair of basic black nike runners a few months ago on sale, big fan of them. they're very comfortable and work with a lot of different outfits. >but you're on the fashion board, you conformist! surely you need to wear only the most obscure minimalist sneakers! not really. i live in a college town full of people who wear nothing but nike/north face/columbia stuff, i don't really mind wearing the same brand of shoe as everyone else. it works. that sentiment may be considered anti-fashion by some, but as rick owens once said, "FASHION IS POPULAR BECAUSE IT’S A MYSTERY. IT’S THE EBB AND FLOW OF THE SUBTLE THINGS WE PROPOSE AS DESIGNERS, AND THAT PEOPLE RESPOND TO LIKE FLOCKS OF BIRDS TURNING ALL OF A SUDDEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SKY. THAT’S WHAT MAKES IT FASCINATING. IT’S ALL ABOUT INSTINCTS AND SUBTLE REFERENCES THAT CERTAIN PEOPLE CAN GRASP IN A VERY VAGUE WAY." i like connecting with other people in my town on that level, it's almost like a school spirit thing. hope this post makes sense
