This is actually somewhat true. I worked with a few people that had undercuts and they both had thin as fuck hair and a poor hairline. I've also had random barbers tell me something along those lines, like if you have a full head of hair, you just don't want an undercut.

The undercut draws attention away from the thinning out hair on the top of your head and some of the sad shape of the receding hairline is masked by the short sides. Don't tell me that this guy would look better without the undercut.

It's super easy to maintain yourself, and it's a perfect DYI haircut. Also, with an undercut where your long hair is really long and your side and back hair is about 1cm, you can turn the hairstyle into multiple ones. You can have curtains, a pomadour, a quiff, slickback, ponytail/manbun or Justin Bieber-like (hair laying sideways over forehead). I really love my sidecut, and trimming it every week or two is really fun.
