Thrift store for tops (t-shirts, sweaters, and hoodies (I actually found a ZARA hoodie for $3.50 at Salvation Army)).

H&M/ASOS/Uniqlo for bottoms (jeans, khakis, chinos)

Sure, you'll be spending $25 - 40 for pants. But you'll be spending $2 - 5 on the tops.

You want to get the bottoms from somewhere legit because in my many years of thrift shopping I've found that people just don't donate/throw out decent jeans. Finding pants that fit, are in good condition and don't look too dated is rare at any thrift store. Nice tops are abundant though. now

PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PART

All you really need to start off is like 4 pairs of pants.

Some light jeans.
Some dark jeans.
Something in a rich color like burgundy, dusk or forest green.
Some kind of distressed/ripped jeans.
(maybe a pair of sweats)

Get 4 good pairs of pants and 8 nice tops and if you PAY ESPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE COLORS OF THE STUFF YOU BUY, you can be Veeky Forums for a little over $100.

I know a girl who gets big compliments on her style all the fucking time. She has literally 1 skirt, 1 dress, 1 pair of jeans and about 5 different tops. All she does is mix and match very thoughtfully and occasionally throws a denim jacket on top of the other stuff and people think she's a stylistic genius.

It's all about being thoughtful and cohesive and having a "theme". A style. Know what you wanna do.

Me, I wear basically the same style of clothing everyday. Gym shoes. Heavily distressed jeans. Button down shirt. Sometimes I layer on a hoodie over a plain tee. I like bold primary colors or patterns on top. Blue or black denim on the legs. And white shoes - usually mid or hightop sneakers.

So before you embark on this, know what you wanna do. Experiment at the risk of wasting money. But once you've decided on a style for yourself the spending part becomes easy.

H&M and Uniqlo actually do a decent job of taking the expensive look, the IDEAS behind stuff like vetements and common projects etc and giving you the same idea in an unbranded, affordable version

To add on to this, whenever you buy or thrift a piece make sure that you can make more than a couple outfits from it. I've been stuck with pieces that just sit because they're hard to match with anything else than the piece I had in mind.

Don't buy brand clothes, it's a huge waste of money and if it's embezzled with corporate logos makes you look like an idiot. Find out what looks good on your bodytype, skincolor and hair color, and dress in harmony with your environment and natural landscape

The shoes I've recently started spending real money on but I'm a real sneaker head so it's just one of those things I'm willing to spend lots of money on like how some people spend lots of money on video games or drugs, I don't compromise shoes. There's no one place I go, it helps to shop around a lot with shoes because it's not about the brand it's about the design and lots of the coolest looking brand designs have spawned affordable knock offs at places like ALDO, Call it Spring and H&M

You have lots of options that are versatile and inexpensive.

You can get Converse knock offs for $25 @ Payless.

Generic Air Jordan 1-style high tops from H&M online for like $60

Basic black Vans go with almost any fit and cost around $50

Adidas stan smith in black for a more "casual shoe" look (Aldo is also really good for those types of shoe tho it's not much my style anymore).

And honestly that's a good little repertoire of footwear. Occasionally you can find good shoes at thrift stores but it's only happened once for me and they were rubber soled dress shoes

If you have a good body and research a haircut that works for you, you can look fashionable in beat up jeans and a plain white tee.

That's not the point. Most of the people who are into fashion are into it for self expression or to project a particular image that appeals to them. Not just "look good"

Go nuts in charity shops dude (thrift stores in america I guess). I've found Fendi, All Saints, YSL, Kenzo and more shit all for less than £10 an item. I once found a balmain suit for £10. Just spend the time and you’ll get good shit. I live in London which gives me a bit of an advantage, but I've found top shit in total nowhere towns

For men's shoes (not sneakers or skate shoes), Nordstrom Rack if you're on a budget. If you have a good eye you can genuinely find some good pieces discounted.

I've actually had really good luck getting used jeans at thrift stores that pay people for their clothes. Plato's Closet has been good for me, the only new pants I've bought recently is a pair of joggers.

There's a second hand store called Plato's Closet where I live. I bought a brand new pair of Jordans that someone brought in for 25 bucks, some Balmain jeans for 20 and a Nike hoodie for 14. That's little over 60 bucks--and a little over half the price of the Jordans alone. Nigga its not hard to look good.

yes. the most important part of fashion is your clothes fitting properly and having a coherent color scheme. study up on those then buy basics to fill out a wardrobe. aside from that you can get into thrifting and DIY to get cheap statement pieces. also, start grooming yourself properly and get a good haircut.

hell fucking yea, ive been going to thrift stores for 5 years now and my wardrobe is much more diverse and full of cool unique items. I honestly would say ive only spent about 600 in total the whole time.
My only exception is $150 dollar shoes here and there but everything else is thift store cops.

If a store's nicer then they probably have marked up more expensive brands
