Chicago = Doomed?

I live in Chicago, and I am supposed to close on buying a townhouse in a few weeks. Lately it seems like Chicago is really going down the shitter economically. Many people I've known have moved, and there have been many lay offs.

I am starting to have a bit of a panic attack. If I lose money on this housing deal, my life is fucked. I am scared this will turn into Detroit 2.0. Opinions on Chicago?

Come to Alaska much better

Already checked, not many jobs besides trade jobs.

Think about it this way. Are things getting better there? Do you see things getting better anytime soon? At all? Or is everything slowly getting worse? You would be the best person to make that judgement.

Based on the answer to the previous question, you need to decide whether or not its a good idea to set the anchor down long term, because changing your mind later might not be feasible.

Personally I would gtfo. Find a nice town in a nice state that ISNT overrun with nigs, welfare babbys, and degenerates.

Seriously you would do well to find a place that is conductive to the person you want to make yourself in regards to business, family, and personal life.

That is especially important if it seems like you're always fighting everything and everyone just to do your everyday shit.

> degenates
I guess there really are 60+ year old people on this board. Go write your will and step down, old man.

I wouldn't live in Chicago just because ChiTown is cold as fuck.

As far as buying though, Chicago is high because everything else is high right now.

I don't think now is a good time to buy a home.

I'm in a position myself, but think I am gonna wait till 2017 or 2018.

Friend of mine bought a home near Atlanta in 2012 for $200k. That home is currently worth $300k. I pays to buy in the dip.

Fuck you don't tell him to come here.

Post the townhouse, so we can tell if it is a deal or about to be infested with cockroaches.

just rent. the property taxes will go up in chicago with force. detroit went bankrupt because 50% of the budget went to pensions, chicago has the same problem they simply dont have the money. so there will be many factor pushing housing prices down as people leave and taxes increase

That's my conundrum as well - I've lived in Chicago all my life and I'm graduating soon, and moving to TX for a masters program.

At time you'd think we're turning into Detroit but when you go downtown there's construction everywhere, jobs everywhere, and you see all these assholes moving from MI, IA, and OH to the city. We also have the metro area. This is what's confusing - If we're turning into Detroit then why are all these companies and people moving here?

Whatever you do, don't come to Minneapolis, you fucking Illinois pricks. Stay the fuck out of my state. Go move to Florida or something

Move to NC. There's 3 major cities. A hippie city for the liberals and fags, a banking/nascar/football city for the rich southern gentry/rednecks, and a city of somewhat normal educated people who left the north because they realized it was a shit hole.

found the nigger

Chicago is where you live if you like black people, homeless people, crime, cold weather, high property tax, corruption, and on top of all that, hate yourself.

>I have some real estate in a flyover state I want to sell you
Kek was your realtor from Veeky Forums?

I guess the only reason Chicago isn't as much of of a post-industrial hellscape as most other midwestern cities is that it's basically the capital of the Midwest and all the regional commerce and of course many other national businesses.

But it really doesnt have great appeal to an outsider imo, the geography is boring (flat as south florida but cold as fuck, like most other great lakes cities) and there are still plenty of shitty ghetto areas, but unlike detroit there are big wealthy neighborhoods in the urban core on the north side.

I'd like to visit it someday bacause of course it has cool museums, wrigley and good meat, but fatty food doesn't make up for it being in the freezing midwest far from interesting nature of any kind.

Also I've heard about all the terrible corruption in Illinois and Chicago

612 for life.
Fuck somalia

Chicago is a place full of sad, lifeless human beings

OP here

I'm actually more of an /out/ person. I've tried applying to Wyoming and New Mexico for months, but could not land a job. So I'm stuck in Chicago due to college/work.

>he purchased a home in a city where the nigger population is rising steadily

ahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHA

What part of Chicago is it in? North Shore is good, but South of the Loop with the exception of Hyde Park and Chinatown are working class and poverty stricken neighborhoods.

The State of Illinois is in a budget gridlock for a year now. Economically, Illinois has not been doing well for years especially in Southern Illinois as the coal mines have closed. Companies have been bought out or moved out in the Chicagoland Area. Kraft Foods, Motorola, Aon, Amoco, Sears Holdings, Marshall Fields, and Arthur Anderson have been bought out, moved, or gone out of business. Taxes are higher in order to close budget gaps or to pay for underfunded pensions. Chicago used to be better 16 years ago, now not so much. I think Boeing made the mistake of moving from Seattle to Chicago in 2001 as that city has taken off.

Is Chicago going to become the next Detroit? No. Probably what New York City used to be in the 1970s and 80s.

I'm in the northern suburbs, but in my mind the suburbs and city are all interconnected and dependent on each other. I have a web design business and I do a few things musically for money.

I moved from Chicago to Atlanta. I want to move back into the city but too poor

Suburbs in Chicagoland are better than Chicago in general with the exception of the Southern suburbs. Northern suburbs tend to be the most well off in Chicagoland. That's John Hughes' stomping ground in his films.

I've been to many of Hughes' filming spots. Surprised he picked the north shore for that, I really don't find it to be aesthetically interesting. It's cool though.

> MI, IA, and OH

It's spreading...

Fuck. That's just great. Time to move.

Thanks faggot.

Also fuck HICKORY!!! Shittiest city ever.

A few minutes from the WI/IL border here.

I've personally known maybe 20 people who have moved from NE IL to Kenosha and Milwaukee. Several of them were Chicagoans.

IL sucks dick and people are tired of it. So am I. I live in the shittiest city in the area (Zion).

MCDonald's is moving corporate offices to downtown Chicago from what I read today.

Better have a job there BEFORE moving to Alaska.

Alaska: Mostly drunks and end-of -roaders.

Fuck you, shitbird. All that tribal tattoo ink get in your blood stream and forget the manners your momma taught you after she concieved you in the back seat of a Volvo in a Chuck E Cheese parking lot one night. In my day we didn't beat off to gay furry unicorn porn of a fucking girl's feet like 90% of the faggots on this Chinese image board to 5 times a day in their basement between piles of Mac and cheese tubs. All that goddamn Axe you puppies slosh on makes a woman think you're going to an Iranian wedding with skinny jean tuxes and a fedora to impress the tied goat you'll visit with enough alcohol "liquid courage".
In my day we didn't send a fucking picture of our dick to a girl with a phone. We fucking showed it to her in person in a closet at a house party like a real man with manners! You pecker pummelers need to get some respect.

How far northern suburbs? I just moved out of the North Side - Andersonville/Edgewater area - to New Hampshire. I have a job that involves heavy travel and working from home so I can essentially live where ever.

Chicago and Illinois are pretty screwed over the pension problems. It's not going to go away, and unlike a country the state can't just print money to fund the pensions. Large parts of the city are absolute war zones, and pockets exist throughout. Like the Uptown area I was near.

I think Chicago is definitely on the decline but nowhere near Detroit levels. It still has so many multi-nationals based out of places like Deerfield that something catastrophic would have to happen for the Chicagoland area to collapse as a whole.

>Illinois sucks dick and people are tired of it

This, faggots keep voting for Democrats and this is what you get, Illinois is to blame for Obama, as soon as I can, I'm out of here, really wish I could make the state better, but I don't have the means. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't lead Illinois to anything really, because Illinois is retarded.

It really has become a tale of two cities. Downtown and the northern neighborhoods and suburbs are very well off. Just bought a place in Evanston, killer area.

The south and immediate west sides though are terrible and should be avoided if you wish to continue living. Pensions are interesting, eventually something will have to give, and it's going to have to be those getting a pension. Otherwise you lose the tax base, and the state goes down in flames.

Blacks are actually leaving the city
some of the west/south sides are gentrifying as well. I'm moving into the city soon from the burbs, I think I'm going to rent for a few years and see how the pension thing pans out before I buy any shit.

I heard that Chicago is the only city in the top 25 in population to have a negative population growth rate

Jesus christ dude don't buy now
we're on the edge of a market collapse, and real estate is already drying up in volume

>OP is just a stormfront hater
>muh stormfront boggyman

Austin seems like a good place to live.

Or if you have the mindset of a medieval man, Dallas is good.

>motorola just moved HQ from burbs to Chicago

Wow REALLY???? Motorola holy shit that's HUGE I remember buying a phone from them like 15 fucking years ago.

No, I have lived in Chicago all of my life. 18 year burb and 6 in the city. This place is going to absolute shit. The school system is ran by entitled cat ladies who blame Rauner for trying to cut their pensions and stealing an education from the children. Which is absolute bullshit. Emmanuel and Mike Madigon have made it impossible for any pension reform to take place. We're essentially turning into Greece, the state and the City of Chicago will go belly up in the next few years when they eventually can't keep kicking the can down the road and when that happens major chimp outs may soon follow.

Unless the Federal Gov't steps in and bails us out, which they are already in $21 trillion in debt, we're gonna see much major fucked up shit.

>going to an Iranian wedding
No shit, me too.
Do you know the Ahmadi's?
And are you staying at the Embassy Suites?

don't worry, they'll all collect in Madison first until it blows up

yella habibi let's go to the wedding,
oh wait sorry that wasn't farsi

>that wasn't farsi
I didn't say the wedding was for Spanish people.
Fuck off back to Madrid with your sleeping ass.
