What are the historical roots of multiculturalism?
How did these ideas come to be? On what former ideas do they rely?

cultural marxism

Capitalism wanting cheap workers and to commodify foreign food.

Ancient Egypt and India were multicultural, but not in the political correctness sense.

Modern multicultural is a cultural marxist idea.

Tower of Babel would be the ur-example

increased globalisation based on the exporting of liberal capitalism. the historical roots are that there are a bunch of different cultures in the world and they tend to interact whenever there are advanced trade networks and increased flow of labour

i don't really know what you're asking

it's not really. it's a capitalist idea

Which is what cultmarx is about, using the capitalist apparatus to accelerate the conditions to let it get displaced.

so the conditions of multiculturalism already exist, why blame the ones who want to accelerate it and bring it to its ultimate conclusion?

This.

Pic related says Christians, but it is safe to say that Islam also fits in this description.

Cultural marxism is a meaningless combination of words but it does refer to something real.
Marx thought that capitalism will collapse under its own weight, so to speak.
He wanted, instead of waiting for it to collapse on its own and having the people suffer, to accelerate it and bring the communist Utopia earlier.
Cultural Marxism, despite being a misleading term, expresses certain feelings of discomfort with the ideas that seek to equalize different parts and societies of the world.
Men and women, blacks and whites, west and east, etc..

Fucking pol...
give me some credible sources you fool.
The frankfurt school members were interested in how modern, educated societies, could still act like complete animals.
Critical theory, casts doubt on everything, on scientific research for example, because scinetific research is also driven by cultural issues.
Who funds certain types of research? Why? what about things that nobody wants to fund? why not?
Etc...
The point of critical theory was to cast doubt on what were sacred cows as a result of new changes in society and new technologies.

This is really low. Is this /pol/ or his? Does anyone know anything here?

Lots of ancient civilizations had populations of many ethnicities. Some of the earlier mesopotamian cities had mixes of populations from the middle east and elsewhere.

It predates the day when Marx slithered out of his hole.

Radical Fascist pricks that follow edgelords like Evola and cocksuckers like Hitler always call anyone who disagrees with them liberals and SJWs.

Regardless if they're actually left wing SJWs.

>Only one blonde.

Good. I hate blonde chicks.

Nope. Critical theory was custom built for deconstructing western civilization. Islam takes itself too seriously to fall for it, but they'll take advantage of the distorted values it leaves in its wake self- servingly.

We are talking about the idea and support of the idea. i.e supporting the notion that a society can be combined out of people with completely different cultures, tied only by trade and legal official laws.
As oppose to societies that accept immigrants but are constructed in such a way so as to force immigrants to adopt their new countries ideals and customs.

Except the frankfurt school was very critical of mass media and how state propoganda, in nazi germany or socialist USSR, used it to brainwash people into horrible actions.

You forget the part where Mesopotamian multiculturalism grew organically, whereas the leftist version is forced onto countries top down, so that's not really a good comparison

Not denying that. Just saying Multiple ethnicities living among each other isn't really an unnatural or terrible thing.

But yes. If it's forced it don't work.

why are multiculturalism and diversity mistaken for the same thing? multiculturalism is about as far away from diversity as you can get.

The term originated in Canada in reference to all the refugees displaced by ww2 and the term was popularized by the 70s in Canada after the counterculture movement. These ideas are a response to the irrationality of racism and monocultural attitudes.

canadahistory.com/sections/documents/Primeministers/trudeau/docs-onmulticulturalism.htm

By the 90s it was adopted by the US with its race hysteria and took on new meaning, rather than simply allowing multiculturalism, multiculturalism had to be promoted along with diversity. These ideas are based on fear of racism and the left wing ideal of antagonism.

this

Also it's because neo fascist and populist edgelords are retarded right wing SJWs.

Empires (and one republic).

Not shitty colonial empires, but contiguous empires.

Especially empires that were still around when the age of nationalism hit in the 1800's.

Entities that hold multiple cultures have to justify themselves with something that doesnt butthurt its components. Be it universalist idenities (i.e. Ottoman, Roman, Chinese empires), "Imperial" identities (late Ottomans, Austro-Hungarian empire) or philosophies held as self-evident and universal (i.e. United States.)

This.

They justify it as "Multicultralism"

The were multicutural but in the sense that many practices and beliefs were similar, and had similar roots.

Modern multiculturalism believes that cultures, even those Diametrically opposed to each other in practice, can coexist.

Multiculturalism has existed since the dawn of man. Sicily is a great example of this. When Roger first conquered it from the Muslims in 1071, there were three profound cultures living together (the Latins, the Byzantines and the Muslims) and Sicily was governed with a mix of both. It was quite successful.

Multiculturalism implies it is justified to discriminate against someone from the majority culture to uplift someone from a minority culture. It is promoted by sad people full of hate who get "triggered" when they see too many "white faces".
