No it is not what America is about. From the beginning it was religious zealots who wanted a place to practice. The west is based on social harmony and is a trust-based society. Again, newsflash, literally every brand that exists in the western world is doing this. That's capitalism, you min max expense and profit to be as successful as possible. I'm concerned that I have to explain this shit to adults.

Issue with capitalism is it's unsustainable after wealth gets concentrated in exclusive industry. Up until that point it works great, and then inevitably creates an extreme wealth gap and less innovation than communistic societies for a few reasons. I'll use walmart as an example because they're the easiest. They have the finances as well as the shipping means to buy huge amounts of goods in bulk to cut costs, which means they can turn around and sell these goods to consumers at a profit of 1-5cents and know that because they're selling in such bulk, and have so many customers, that the tiny individual profit per sale will add up into billions. A mom and pop startup shop can't compete with that, due to not being able to buy in as large of bulk, getting less of a discount, and needing a profit big enough to at least sustain their own (the owners) lives, as well as having no investors and few customers in a local environment.

This basically makes it so starting up a shop in that industry is impossible when such powerful competition exists. It's not technically a monopoly but it may as well be. This kind of thing is starting to happen with more and more big brands in the western world, and the more it happens, the more of a hand these corporations will have in politics inevitably, because they'll represent a significant amount of the country's overall wealth if it goes on long enough. That's what happens when money is hoarded. Then you get a cyberpunk scenario where corporations are more powerful than the will of the people or any leadership in a country, but unlike in cyberpunk novels there most likely wont be a hero to rise up and save us from it.

This is what people mean when they say capitalism is great but unsustainable. Wealth inevitably ends up getting funneled into a small group of people who gain absolute economic control, creating the same issue the colonists eventually broke off from england for.

If you've read any marx, he theorizes that capitalism is a starting point to create prosperity, wealth and innovation in a newborn country. As that wealth starts to become inconsistent for the vast majority of the population, a move into a more regulated form of capitalism with socialist programs is necessary to prevent said uprisings/inequality. If that is achieved, the final step is to then (a long time down the line) end up as a perfectly planned communist utopia.

I don't necessarily think it'll play out that simply, but I do think that greed is a defining factor of why capitalism is inherently unsustainable. It requires constant economic growth to not become shit, and that's just not possible (especially when money isn't more evenly distributed). Just because it's worked for a while doesn't mean it's going to continue to work, you know. And as smaller european countries are adopting more socialist regulations, they're leaving the U.S behind in terms of education, poverty levels, etc.
