Been growing my hair for 3 years now, and it's always been dry like pic related most of the time.
I only wash it once a week, and it's still dry as shit.
I try to wash only the scalp with just a little bit of shampoo and apply a lot of conditioner to the mid/end sections, without rinsing it too much, so some of it remains on the hair. I started to apply conditioner to the scalp too, because it wasn't getting oily enough throughout the week.

Now I just bought a bottle of coconut oil to see if the effects are as miraculous as people paint it to be. I don't intend to look like a goth kid or a shampoo model, don't wanna go overboard and get too shiny/silky of a hair, but I'm hoping this will tame this motherfucker.

There are several ways to apply it, my first attempt will be washing my hair normally with poo and conditioner, letting it dry a little then applying around two teaspoons of coconut oil while it's still humid.

Maybe I should take some pictures for comparison. Thanks for reading my blog.

This was me a couple years ago. I fixed it by chopping my split ends off (made a huge difference) and applying my own is of oils (equal parts coconut, almond, castor). I basically rubbed the oil into my scalp and coated my hair with it and wrapped my hair with a hot towel and washed it out after about 3-4 hours. I also switched to sulfate free shampoos and stopped using styling tools. I also switched to silk pillowcases which I think curbed the split ends.

I look at my hair sometimes and I've never ever seen a split end in it at all. Unless it's a figurative name and there are no literal split ends. How am I supposed to chop the ends if my hair falls a lot and the ends are evenly spread along the whole length of it?

Also I'm a very non-Veeky Forums person, wearing hoodies, trackpants and manchild cotton shirts. I'm just letting my hair grow out of curiosity, since I've never seen natural hair in the wild, just women overcooking their shit up with radioactive substances, straighteners, dyeing and all that shit. I'll note your tips down, but ultimately I'm looking for something as easy to do as it gets - that's why I'm starting with this "leave-in" approach. If it's too inefficient, I'll try using the oil as an overnight pre-poo. If it gives me too much trouble or I have to make some fancy mixes and give up on warm baths or any crap like that, my hair will go back to staying the way it is.

Ended up using 5 teaspoons because 3 felt like not enough to at least sprinkle on every part of the hair. But since I'm leaving in, didn't want to simply grease it all up. Tips left to dry together, I'll have to observe for a few days whether this was too much, too little or what.

If you're going bald on the front, yes, else you might end up looking like Chigurh. Otherwise, just decide on one of the two extremes: wild, all-around hair (instead of combing the forehead part) or something more retracted, showing your forehead, ears etc. Right now it's a strange mix.

I can't cover my forehead with my hair anymore. It covers my eyes too. Tbh I think I peaked when my hair was just long enough to cover my forehead but I doubt my hairdresser can cut my hair that way again

it def doesnt look good on everyone. What's your head shape though? If you have an angular head, strong jaw, and a relatively flatter crown itll look good.

Hey dude, I'm . Here is my hair when it was still growing up, it used to get in all sorts of weird shapes all the time, but now (despite being dry) it goes down without any doubt. You'll have a window of maybe 2~3 months dealing with this sort of unkempt shit, but then it becomes long enough that you can at least tie/pin your forehead bangs behind your head, and from there on it's smooth sailing.
Try a black hair clamp, maybe you can already do it.

Sometimes I'm so lazy that when I get back home, I got directly to sleep without washing my hair before bed. And the day after, they're dry as fuck. How much I'm fucking them up by doing this?

It's only been 24 hours, but here it is.

It feels slightly greasy and heavy, but I particularly don't dislike it - when I had shorter hair, I could spend a week without washing it and it would get this aspect, which to me was the sweetspot, although my mom used to say it just looked unwashed.

It's still a bit dry all around too - maybe I didn't distribute the oil very well. Or maybe it takes more than one application before it looks more uniform, I'll try this for another one or two weekly applications.

Overall the shape is much better, but I might at least attempt the pre-poo method after experimenting with this leave-in approach. Maybe that can both give me the tamed aspect and do away with the grease.

I dunno how the speed of Veeky Forums work very well, but I'll try to report back in this thread and if it dies, on whichever looks like a hair general one.

OP this depends on your hair growth. Don't wash your hair everyday, eat healthy (eat natural biotin), and put some coconut oil on before you wash so it'll grow faster. ideally, you'll maybe get there in 3 months or more.
