It looks like a printed 70's body shirt. Apart from that it could be any number of now defunct Acme type brands. HST definitely would not have bought a big name/designer shirt.

Basically the only acceptable high socks are the ones with the stripes on them, and worn with jogging shorts. They were available in Thompson's time, but he doesn't wear them, so he looks bad. In the second pic he is apparently sock free though. Looks really good.
