How to dress like a Wizard?

I've always appreciated the classic aesthetic of wizards depicted in media. So old, sage, and wise. Full of knowledge and charm. They radiate an otherworldly aura.

I want to embody the wizard. I want to become the wizard. The wizard needs no introduction, it takes only a glance to know that he's a practitioner of spells and a keeper of great knowledge.

What clothes can I wear to become the wizard?

Wizards dress the way they do for convenience. He has plenty of drapes to hide his charms, potions, and enchanted items such as his spell book or familiar totem.

To dress like a wizard you probably don’t want to wear anything much heavier than leather, perhaps linens and dense cottons.

A lot of what makes the wizard look wise though is his/her age. It typically takes decades to reach sage-hood.

Robes, loose fitting pants made of light but durable fabrics (light weight denim, thicker linens) durable yet light weight shoes.

Hats are very common with wizards but I think that most wizard hats you see are a bit outdated. It’s used to keep the wizard from getting sunburn mostly. So I think most any sun hat would do in this day and age.

Jewelry is minimal/hidden but always VERY unique (it’s probably enchanted after all).

Typically no tattoos because that’s more shaman/monk territory.

Anything I’m missing?

I think those old wizard hats look pretty cool. Dunno if I could actually pull it off though. And I'm probably way too young to really pull off the look.

But I might look into longer, baggier clothes. Things that sort of drape off me?

Beef Heart

You could always easily use layers to give off a “mystical” silhouette.

...

Lets go with the assumption that one is between the ages of 18 and 25 and is into the adept phase of his wizarding. What would one dress like? I think it comes down to what sort of wizard they are studying to become. A wizard of the elements? A wizard of summoning? Maybe a wizard of illusions?

I think a wizard of the elements would have a lot of durable but light clothes because the training would involve a lot of camping and travel.
A wizard of summoning might have some sort of patterned clothing to hide and use as summoning portals, layered beneath solid clothing both so that they don't touch and so he doesn't reveal his power level.

A wizard of illusion probably dresses like beef heart

i can't tell if this serious any more

Wow that entre band has they style that I want to have Saved to inpso

>wear nothing
>become The nude wizard

Made a thread about him here once and was told by everyone he was an ugly Irish midget and not effay :(

I think it'll be an interesting challenge to create a "wizard-style" without crossing over into LARP territory. Shit just finding an Veeky Forums wide brimmed hat that doesn't scream costume has been a challenge.

This is probably the best hat I could find last night while scrolling google images.

>obligatory asian

Be old and wear drapey clothing with lots of layers. Have some weird quirks and grow your hair out.

also this one but again

>costume

the top, and the pants maybe too, but I feel they are a bit too stylized.

I like these pants a bit more. More modern but simple still.

...

maybe the young wizard doesn't have a big sunhat yet?

Western occultism was heavily influenced by Oriental teachings, so that totally works.

Dress for comfort and utility in mind over fashion and eventually you'll just fall into the right look.
Don't shave or cut your hair.
Wizards don't give a shit, period. They understand things on a higher medium and level of reality than normal people do and absolutely have no time for their mind to even linger around "what looks good" for even a moment; they're busy contemplating the workings of the real universe. They live life for the present but plan for the future, and their clothing indicates this; they don't care if their hat looks silly as long as it does the job of blocking out the sun from their eyes, they don't care if their cloak is old and smells bad because it keeps them warm and reminds them of home. If you want to look like an authentic wizard just absolutely stop giving a shit about anything but your own comfort when it comes to what you wear and how you look.

Really the look you want is "dirty unshaven autistic hobo" with lots of pockets for shit, probably a book bag to store a random assortment of crap and a journal. Also, because there are moments when one simply can't help do anything but sit and bide time, bring some shit for tinkering with stuff. A knife and some wood to carve things, a pipe to smoke, a journal to jot down interesting things most people don't take notice of or place thoughts, some watch or other small mechanism to tinker with, rubix cube, ect.
Most people of high intelligence understand the importance of day dreaming or zoning out too, it gives the slower parts of the brain time to organize and work out the patterns of life, so you want something that's comfortable to sit on like a robe or extremely baggy coat.

Just dress like Yohji, that guy looks like a modern wizard.

Lots of wool, silk and velvet; no artificial fabrics. Keep plain cotton to underclothes (shirts etc) if possible.

Purple woollen scarf, plum velvet smoking jacket (or a brown corduroy sportcoat), violet silk tie, lilac shirt. Not necessarily all at once but you get the picture.

I think you’re absolutely right about the mentality of a wizard, but I think its more fun to approach it from a Veeky Forums wizard perspective. A gross autistic hobo can be Veeky Forums but is usually not.

I think it’s more about the aesthetic than it is the function, so from that jumping point what are aesthetic wizard wear options not just functional ones?

I do think you’re right about how a wizard would think though.

that's some jedi shit

You’re right, it’s a bit too much linen. What about this?

I like this a lot but I think it’s a little too eastern influenced

if you are new:

nobody knows who is trolling who anymore

noone is serious but everyone is most pointedly sincere

...

...

I think it's a lot about what kind of person you are, it's not a hard look to pull off but it is if you're the wrong kind of person to try.

This is a bit more medieval but maybe good inspo?

It’s Jace the mindsculptor from Magic the Gathering

Nerdy ass game but goddamn if the art isn’t good.

Pissed myself laughing OP, thank you.

For the record I also like wizards, they are one of my favourite things about fantasy fiction

Could go for 80s cult wizard and dress in tight David Bowie suits with big hair and bigger bulges.

Yeah, I just think the barrier of entry for autistic hobo is a bit hard to break through.

But by all means man, post some interesting hobos. I bet they have some cool functional clothes

The modern wizard.

Nah you’re thinking alchemist
Something like this?

In the occult every colour has a mystical association; a wizards clothing may paint a picture of his otherworldly awareness and orientation. The four mystic scales of colour (transparent, primary, secondary and tertiary) means that each piece of an outfit must be considered a single part of a broader arcane tapestry.

Scent also carries distinct occult significance; tobacco for example is associated with the planet mars and is hence a warlike male incense suitable for the evocation of agressive deities.

Further, precious and semi-precious stones are all assigned meanings and effects within occult paradigms, and so jewellery is similarly relevant to wizardly presentation.

>What clothes can I wear to become the wizard?
The modern wizard shops on Savile Row.

Yeah, I dunno guys.
I think modern day wizards would wear kinda cringy things like oversized hoodies, leather trench coats, or oversized corduroy blazers.

>2018
>not having a peacock feather overcoat
Do you even cast spells?

>Han Shan core
really more of an ascetic look than most wizards. I think it strays dangerously into monk territory

Snuck an extra slice of cake

>tfw the weight of the cosmos on your shoulders...

>not having a silver familiar totem

I snuck an extra slice of cake
