Line is indeed huge in Japan. Anyone who's ever been there and talked with someone knows it's the de-facto app for messaging.

Problem is that their user growth is stagnating (there's only so many people in Japan, especially the youths) so LN is banking on the idea that they can expand to countries like America, India, and others in Europe. However those countries are already balls deep in Whatsapp and other messaging apps. LN basically has to steal market share from Facebook and another huge company in order to grow.

That's the whole purpose of this IPO. And I don't see it happening. Line took off in japan because of its timing with the earthquake and because japs are so fucking goofy and obsessed with the stickers it offers. I just don't see that twee shit translating across other nations when things like FB messenger and snapchat already have those things and are firmly entrenched in those markets.

This. I'm gonna pass. That plus they aren't profitable.

They're also planning on rolling out a cellular service in japan in order to monetize their existing service.

Let's see how well that does when giants like docomo grind them into pie crust lol.
