Well, if they were to, say, spend a year working on an engine upgrade after pushing to 1.0 but it turns out they were actually optimizing for consoles and not working on the game and the reason they pushed to 1.0 was to line up the console offers, then that suggests they did not bother to finish the game for the ONE unacceptable reason when you collect $100 million in early access funding: to make the same game for a different cohort and ALSO charge them!

Early access provides slack. It's how that slack is used that is crucial to the method of production. In Squad's case, it was used to hide as much money as possible while decreasing the content of updates and increasing the wait in between, and it all correlated to Maxmaps' career there.

Poker his a psychology-heavy game which requires as much math as some of the card games you like. The difference being that you have to do the math in your head because exposing said math to everyone else cripples your strategy.
There are cases of incredibly successful poker players who played and won matches by never looking at their cards, just by knowing what's on the table and correctly guessing other people's cards by interpreting their in game decisions and body language.
What I don't like of those card games it the inevitable implied roleplay that comes with them. When cards are 50% pictures of dragons, kinghts and monsters, with names such as "Blue-eyed Dragon of eternal darkness" and the occasional flavour text that comes with them, I completely lose interest. I would rather play with a card that says "this does X damage to Y type of cards, suspends the ability of Z type of cards and has a +10% bonus against K type of cards" without all the usual cosmetic shit.

it all boils down to a pre-determined set of cards and a binary decision the player makes of "yes" or "no" You can put as much flowery language in front of it as you want. it's still a coinflip whether you have the option of leaving the room before they coinflip, or part way through doesn't suddenly increase the randomness, or change the state of the game in any way. you could play poker quite happily with NO players at all, just dealing cards out and seeing which hands win great game.

But money is an essential part of the strategy. Have you ever tried to play online poker where you don't pay money at the table? It's all people playing completely random, no strategy, no careful playing, no risk whatsoever, it's hardly even poker. In that case, yes, it all comes down to hoping the next card is good for you and not for someone else, but again you are removing a fundamental part of the game by removing the risk factor.
When risk is involved, then there is when poker becomes less of a coin flip and more of a strategy game.
I see you ignored the part where I said poker, when played by skilled people, is a lot less about what kind of card comes out next and more about interpreting other people's decisions, constsntly calculating risk/reward rations for any given sum on the table and masking your real power. As I said, you can play poker and win consistently without even looking at your cards, completely removing the random factor in your decisions. Every objection you made can be made for any other card. It all comes down to hoping your opponent doesn't have a more powerful card than the ones you have.
But hey, I get it, you like fantasy cards and I like traditional cards, to each their own.
