Would it be better to not save after a boss battle unless you class S it? I noticed if you did well against a boss, you get a free ability point to spend, while if you do shitty against it, you don't do anything good.

Is there a level cap in the game? It seems like you'll be more powerful if you kill all the bosses with a class s rank than if you just barely manage to beat them.

I'm guessing the game isn't that popular because I couldn't find much fanart and no porn of it, but I'm finding it really fun so far.

It is a challenging game that rewards execution and build strategies and has no titsnass character, of course it won't attract fanart autism.
Not sure if I was where you were. I dropped it after the fire temple because I could not figure out where to go and exploring lead me to 20 minute mini bossfights(that I beat 2nd try). I lost motivation to play then. I looked it up and will pick it up sometime again because I really liked it.
Also don't go for resets if you don't want to be the perfect build on your first playthrough.

I'm just playing blind, not looking at walkthoughs for now. I'm playing the monk chick, and putting most of my ability points into offense.

I think I'm about at the fire temple too. I was exploring elsewhere and wound up at a really hard ice cave with some super strong angel guy.

Well I tell you just in case. After beating the fire temple boss under the city you need to take the train to the mechanic so she can repeair the defect heaters.

Here's the rulebook (I'm saving you some googling), it's actually much simpler than it looks, and you can quickly find information during the game (although it's probably not that easy if you're a gm). Also Misha's character is a pretty cool guy, it's more likely that Jedd or Waldo are going to bully you. George had his ass kicked so he's quiet for now (not like he bullied anyone, except that one time...), and Miggy just doesn't seem like the bullying type. Besides, Midson would let you start at level 2 or something, he's a pretty good DM. We also have some house rules that aren't difficult to follow at all - regular attacks do 1d10 damage instead of 1d6 and Midson is going to implement a DD-esque anti-stun system..
George was literally the blandest character (pic related) - an ability that inflicts 1d10 dmg and confusion and an AOE that inflicts 1d10 dmg, plus a shitty backstory, Over time his character evolved, and will continue to evolve for better - he got an ability that enrages him and transformed into an innocent weeaboo. Just make something, it doesn't have to be creative. Make an expy if nothing works.

Greetings /indie/! Today’s review will be a long, spoiler-heavy one on a series of four spinOFFs, all made by Zachariecide AKA Claude Huggins. OFF user, this one’s for you.

First in the series is UNKNOWN, which takes place after OFF and stars Zacharie trying to undo the destruction caused by the Batter. However this quickly get derailed as he soon encounters the malicious fox, Seneca, who I swear looks like a freaking Chihuahua. Said fox wants to conquer the Zones, grow in power, and overall be a dick so general consensus is to put him down. Along the way you’ll be joined by a revived Judge, the ghost of the Batter, and the black cat Charlotte. Eventually the journey leads the group to Seneca’s Realm which is where things take a drastic turn as everyone gets separated into various traps.

This is where some of the most interesting aspects of this game get introduced. The Player/Puppeteer (you) is also thrust into a trap by Seneca given an avatar in the world of this spinOFF. This is sort of a mixed bag in my opinion; while I do like expanding on the ways an OFF game can decimate the forth wall, the character of the Puppeteer is given dialogue and will act on their own in certain cut-scenes. I feel this removes immersion and agency as the motives and actions of the character that’s supposed to be us doesn’t always sync with that of the actual player; thus creating a detachment between us and “us” and making them feel like another member of the cast instead of our ticket into being a physical part of Zachariecide’s narrative.

Another aspect of UNKNOWN is the fact it has multiple endings, some are long Game Over and others are Good or Bad Ends. The majority of the choices that determine how things turn out are determined by the actions taken in the Puppeteer’s section and for the most part it works. Save the choices that are just one-click Game Overs, your ending will be determined by questions about your relationships with the party and forms of sabotage in a sort of butterfly effect. Honestly while I do like this, at times I couldn’t really tell how my actions had effected the ending such as in one Game Over ending where the Puppeteer has to physically fight Zacharie but in the end he gets shot out of seemingly nowhere. Now there are a few more points I could make but they’re minor ones that I’ll hold off until the conclusion of what is slowly becoming an essay.

Next up is FastForward, a game that has you and the Batter guided by a mysterious being called… Well the Guide, to replay the events of OFF but instead do something a little different. However this gets derailed as well and focus shifts back to the Puppeteer character as the Guide drags them into the future. This game has some rather prominent ups and downs so I feel it would best just to sort of go through the motions. Great soundtrack; good. Repetitive fight against the same enemy over and over; bad. Decent puzzles; good. An annoying sound-based puzzle that also has you dealing with the aforementioned fight; bad. An interesting but brief story; good. A final boss so hard even on the supposed easy version that even the let’s player I watched go through it admitted that they had to edit the game files just to beat him; bad. Said boss being Zacharie who is right pissed about his various deaths in UNKNOWN and adding more meta to the series; very good. And that about covers it.

Third in line is Clueless, a seemingly separate title about finding clues to solve mystery of why the hell is Zacharie dead. This leads to yet another interesting story that has you exploring a section of tram tunnel to find clues about his condition. That’s the set-up and it gets even more interesting from there.

Aside from clues another thing you’ll commonly run into in this game is traps, traps that will lead to some nicely written and somewhat gruesome Game Overs with one of my favorite being where the Batter can die by hoping out of the moving tram car. Honestly there isn’t much more to elaborate on without giving away the weirdness and mystery which are some of Clueless’s main charms. So with that being said I think I’ll move on to a brief summary about the fourth game of Claude Huggins’s series, 365.

365 takes place I don’t know when in a restored Zone 1. The game stars Zack, an attempt of Seneca’s to clone Zacharie that befriended the Puppeteer, as we follow his story throughout the year. This SpinOFF is a lot simpler than the preceding ones as all Zack can do is walk about and talk to people to make friends with the occasional bouts with his inner demons.

Now I’m going to level with you, in the background it’s apparent that there’s something darker going on in the world around Zack but it’s never fully addressed in this game. Why? Because it takes place in the perspective and narrative of someone who isn’t able to see the full picture. Honestly I might complain but given how the first four games played out, I’ve sort of accepted it as the norm. Honestly, if I’ve any gripe it’s how you have to replay the whole game again to see the true ending which reveals that despite only appearing in one game, Seneca is still the cause of grief. However this is pretty minor as the game goes by pretty quick; but despite its brevity it still gave me an interesting and somewhat tear-jerking look into the mind of a somewhat minor yet likable character.

With that done we move on to the conclusion of this review. Overall, I enjoyed the series for the stories it provided. Despite most the battles being “press-auto-to-win” sort of bouts and the occasional glitch the interesting narrative kept me motivated to see what comes next. In terms of length the four games come to the collective length of OFF. I really enjoyed them and I think you may too.
