PF has a very low mana cost, and he doesnt have the bad of a pool.
2 flames is about 120 mana per wave, which is easily manageable especially if you're playing him as a core (which you should be)

I do hope we see more coreacle with this patch

If you had two smokes on your hero and used one then there was a cooldown for you to use the second one, so you had to pass it to an ally for them to use.
